They looks like they never saw a video camera..today if you say something like this " i just bought a new 3D, HD digital camcoder!"..then they will reply "WHO THE HELL CARES!!!"
@fortisKID I, too, long for you to have lived back then- we wouldn't need to breathe the same air. OOC, did they have a different name for war back then? I rely upon an apparent student of history such as yourself to help me understand.
Thanks for posting this. I really like how clear your version is and I also enjoy the music. I wish you had posted the full version with the boy in the back of the wagon who suddenly appears and the cable car traveling to the Ferry Building and being turned around at the end of the line. But this video is still very nice. It is interesting to see how dressed up everyone was a hundred years ago.
@CherryValence27 You're kidding, right? The earthquake and fire only claimed about 3400 lives (official counts were much lower). Most of those people may have been homeless, but they were probably alive.
if you look closely at the license plates some cars appear numerous times, not a lot of cars in those days and the thought is some were hired to circle back for the film
this is truly a great film giving a window when life was far different than today
At 2:37 you can stop the video and you can look closely at a San Francisco police officer crossing the street carrying his baton. A practice that I as a D.C. policeman still did in the 1960's as I would walk a beat. I'm sure that he used it quite often too.
Imagine how polite they were in those days "hello madam may i hold your umbrella.." etc..Now its every scavenger for her/him self, we don`t greet people on the net we just say "go the fu.k away" or "your mother fu..king a...peeep hole" They problem didn`t understand some of the swear words we use today. " Cluster fu.. Is that a new product?"
I'm not sure how everyone in this video managed to not crash into one another, heh! Pedestrians seemed to be a lot more willing to DODGE then though, and get out of the way instead of just glaring at oncoming traffic, even though they were all over the place.
Never realized that automobiles in the early 1900's had right-handed steering. (Same as UK). Also very interesting that the video never records any stops that the cable car would have made along the route.
must be a major intersection @ 2:30- 2:45 with traffic cop and the clown at with horse and carriage coming betw trolleys... sheez... dumb driving not just today.. fantastic and rare video... love the guy in car that keeps circling the photographer on his trolley...
@miamad We will all join these people one day. It is sad to watch these real life events and think of how little time we actually have on earth. These people didn't seem any more friendly or happy than the street scenes of today. They were dressed a hell of a lot better.
@miamad not neccessarily, as there are a few children under five that could potentially still be alive in 2010, but yes, not likely and some of these people would be dead in a matter of days when the earthquake hit..

Boy, look at all the clothes a woman had to carry. The woman who gets on a cable car near the end has a bustle that looks the size of a Volkswagen!

The strangest thing to me is to see people stop and stare at the camera that's immortalizing them.

Hardly anyone gets on or off of the cable-cars.

Try spotting the fat people, you can count them with ease. What do you reckon was the obesity rate back then, 3-5%?

I was enthralled with this video. It is like being in a time machine... Video MUCH better if you mute the music, tho.

It feels as if you are really there. The only think you can think is that in just 4 days most those people will die.
