Where did I relate my State and myself together when speaking of social services? I was speaking on a personal level. I don't believe in most social services, especially welfare. It is abused by all races, it needs to be reformed. It was never intended for what it has turned into. It's a mess, but I'm guessing you would like to increase it.

I just find it ironic that generally people in middle and southern states seem to be against "welfare," but then vote themselves farm subsidies every year (how is that different?) and otherwise fund their lives with tax dollars from coastal states such as California and New York. Persoanlly, I would eliminate Social Security, and lots of other programs, but would want something in place to give those born with nothing a fair opportunity (don't claim to know how to do that).

I lived in Portland, OR for 6 years and just moved back to Atlanta, GA...and yeah I would definitely say there are a few parts that smell like patchouli and foot! *hee* But there are some places that have that green clover scent too, it's a beautiful state...but I am also happy to be back in Atlanta :)

Interesting revionist history, the GOP opposed the Civil & Voting Rights Acts, and used the slogan of "states rights" to fight against it. LBJ acurrately predicted that the democrats would loose the South for at least 3 generations because of their support for civil rights, and he was right! The GOP adopted the "southern strategy" which played on white resentments (racism) against blacks. It's the republicans who are the party of racist policy, and that's why I won't vote for them.

sidiggy1, I'm very happy with my community. Predominatly white, but we do have some minorities, mostly black. Located just south of Louisville. Very safe community, great healthcare facilities, and one of the best educational systems in the state. So NO, I don't want change in my community. If that sounds racist, than I guess I'm a racist. I just find it ironic that generally people in middle and southern states seem to be against "welfare," but then vote themselves farm subsidies every year (how is that different?) and otherwise fund their lives with tax dollars from coastal states such as California and New York. Persoanlly, I would eliminate Social Security, and lots of other programs, but would want something in place to give those born with nothing a fair opportunity (don't claim to know how to do that).
