The base of the building should not have been demolished so easily ...... the plane hit so high on both buildings. The weight of the plane could have crushed a few floors underneath but there would be a force of the building pushing upwords. And if the plane were to crush those few floors under its impact, it would have done it right away. Also, the planes didn't hit dead center on each building so this collapse would have been lop sided.
