This is a great synth but I just don't understand why they didn't include digital output. Couldn't have added that much cost to the system. Now I have to go from d to a then back from a to d.
2010 and Waldorf still doesn't have spdif out. Common guys.
yeah what a rip off, it's the same price as the access virus ti snow, offers sampling, a keyboard, more muti programs and is $1100 cheaper than the nord wave. i think i'll stick to affordable synths like macbeths'
Wavetable synthesis is a type of synthesis where the Oscillators (wave tables) are made up extremely small snippets of sound. Each wave table consists of usually 64(?) single cycle wave samples. So each table is really small in ROM size. The "analogue" waveforms are modeled, meaning they're done digitally. They're not sampled waveforms. 60 mb of sample ram in the Blofelds is rather large. Considering a lot of the people will be loading in single cycle waveforms well under 1mb in size.
"You use the samples as waveforms"? That's not a 'synthesizer'. That's a "Wavetable" Synthesizer. Not the same thing, not by any intelligent human beings' metric. And even so, 60 meg is -pathetic- given you can now buy a 4gb stick of solid state memory for under 30$.
Most digital synths actually use sample files as waveforms. Actually, almost all VST's use them. And these wavefiles often consist of a square, sinus or sawtooth. These samples are usually not large, so 60 megs is quite big. It's huge for a wavetable synth.
Now. Isn't a wavetable a synthesizer? It's in the name, right? You might not use oscillators, but it's not a rom synth. A wavetable synth (or actually a Virtual Analog synth) is just as much a synth as a modular synth, the only difference is the source of the OSC. So before you call me an 'unintelligent human being', I recommend you to get your facts straight.
yeah 60 meg dosen't sound like alot but in sampling it goes quite along way, remember alot of loops are less than 2 secs long, and drum hits....well you know!
So what you're basically saying, all of you, is that this is not a Synth. It's a sampler. You can call it a "wavetable synthesizer" all you like, but that's basically just a sampler.
"You can call it a "wavetable synthesizer" all you like, but that's basically just a sampler. " WRONG!
a sampler uses a fully created sound and plays it back. Don't let the word "wavetable" confuse you. It's just a fancy word for "shape".
all the Blofeld does is create the shape digitally instead of using analog signal paths to create the noise. Whats important is the shape of the waveform gets created somehow and then how it used by the filters.
kind of, I think it just has the ability to use wave files, to combine with the synth engine in the unit, so you dont have to bring yr own libraries to the table where as a sampler such as an akai sl3000 comes empty other than the 3 or is it 4 basic waveforms.
All the soft synthesizers are like VST's all of them have a OS (Operating System) software running inside and patches, only the analog ones the sound come from electronic circuits no software and the analogs are not upgradeable by "wires" few of them are upgradeable by cards and modules.
Judging by comments on various forums and what I can see from the documentation, the blofeld is extremely well designed. VST in a box? You could say the same for any digital synth, including digital pianos, where the VST can be much better. What I like about things like the blofeld is the portability, reliability, the sound quality and the broad palette.
I agree the blofeld is very portable + versatile, i never said blofeld sounds sh*t, i just if you want something that sounds better then save the extra cash for a TI etc
This is a VST plugin packged in a box, id say save the extra cash and buy a Dave Smith Prophet 08 or Access Virus TI...Yes yes, some of you may say blofeld costs less but hey, you get what you paid for!
lol, i can take a joke. Seriously mate you've totally misunderstood what i said, yes its very true the total intergration software makes the virus act as a vsti, but its internal workings certainly DOESNT sound like a vsti, which was strictly my point. The blofeld sounds like a 80 quid plugin, just my opinion, its like comparing a push bike to a ferrari.
Goacyst- No sampled sounds because it was a prototype and the sampling/USB connection didn't work yet. AFAIK, the samples will simply replace osc waves when used.
zibbybone- More knobs would certainly be nice, but that would make it cost more; its closest competition (w/keyboard) is the Virus TI Polar, which is just under $3000. At $1299, it's a lot of synth for the money (as is the desktop version).
we know these patches already. why no sampled sound? this is the most important saleing point of the blokbd. would you please make a vid includeing also some sampled sounds? and how are they managed by the filters and EFX...
thx anyway for the first post on the awsome keyboard.
wish they would have kept the wheels white!....:(

If you think you can tell what this sounds like from a guy playing 4 presets on a video then you should probably shave your eyebrows off tonight.

It's a synthesizer. You don't play samples, you use the samples as waveforms.
