Regarding Tropic Thunder, the joke is about an actor who is so ridiculously method, that he thinks he can 'become' a black man. That's what is funny, the guy is so full of himself that he thinks he can portray a man of another race. And perhaps a joke about hollywood preferring to cast him rather than an actual black man, because he is an oscar winner.

Regarding Tropic Thunder, the joke is about an actor who is so ridiculously method, that he thinks he can 'become' a black man. That's what is funny, the guy is so full of himself that he thinks he can portray a man of another race. And perhaps a joke about hollywood preferring to cast him rather than an actual black man, because he is an oscar winner.
It is not a joke about how funny black people are. If you aren't smart enough to see that then watch a comedy that doesn't require brain cells.

African Americans are still struggling for equality in this country. It is a sensitive subject and the character can be mirrored as minstrel-like, however, I don't think that was the intention with this film. It's satire.
