I see that more of a stylistic choice, rather than a struggle on his part. He's been singing that song with that kind of patter and choice of notes for years. He also does songs much harder than this one still with relative ease. Look up "Peter Cetera Sasha Cohen" and hear him sing "Hard to Say Sorry" (keeping in mind that clip is from 2008, as opposed to this one in 2004). Any doubt I had about how his voice has held up was erased when I heard that one :)
