Tententhepanda, uyou're right! Thanks for alerting. How do Turkic people look like? If you talk about Turkic people, you do not have the type of people in this video in mind, do you? These look more oriental, yellow. Does it mean that people from several regions of what we call China nowadays migrated to Xinjiang centuries ago?
Original Turkic people looked Mongoloid. When people talk about TURKIC peoples they have in mind look like in that video. But when people talk about Turkish peoples from Turkey not necessary. and Turkic peoples migrated to that territories from what is present day Mongolia and southern Siberia.
Turkey's Turkic connection is somewhat similar to South America's connection to Spanish/Portuguese conquistadors. South America today speaks different dialects of spanish, but the people are 5% undiluted immigrants, 85-90% mixed and 5-10% indigenous. What confuses the world is that the Osmanli decided to name their nation-state, their last remaining territory from the fractured empire, Turkey.
I'm planning to learn Uzbek but actually in order to be able to understand Uyghur music and songs. I find it all very beautiful and impressive. Thus would it be enough to understand the songs if i learn Uzbek?
I have never been to Uzbekistan but I understood a Uzbek men 95%. I think the differences is like the differences between British egnlish and American English. But some of the uzbeks speak with quite heavy parsian accent.
In Wikipedia is written that Uzbek is the sister language of Uyghur. And Uzbeks are derived partly from Uyghurs, AFAIK so you should understand each other. What about understanding Kyrgiz? Do you understand this language? It is a little bit closer to Kazakh.

Sometimes these languages seem to me like dialects of one language, which is not too far from the truth - both derived from "turki" (chaghatay). I fluently operate Qazaq and thus Qyrghyz is not a problem for me, but even though I coul easily understand it based on my native Uyghur.
No difference.Uyghurs and Uzbeks use same language, share same culture - just like one nationality.Seperating them is the politics of China and Russia.

These women don't look Turkish, do they? Not all uyghurs look Turkish so I wonder if people who say that Xinjiang is Turkish are right!?!?
