  • Lte/286.... hmm.... how about the slt/286? XD

  • @WindowsLover6767 **google search**.... WHOAH, that is a beast, I like it :D I have seen bigger portables, but this one still looks like a laptop. Seems to go for $300 at ebay, nice! Thanks, never knew that one existed.

  • @Da9eI We all learn new things. ;) I didn't know the LTE existed! :D

  • Have you got any idea how much they cost second hand? Because I have one, but I can't find anything about it on the internet...

  • @TheDonaldido not really sure, there is only one on ebay for the moment, starting at $30. Probably not worth much yet...

  • @Da9eI Shit. I thought it was pretty rare...

  • This was my first computer... O.o

  • "Spill"

  • looooooool!!!

  • I have one buttt it don't have the battery :s

  • L!O1ol1ol1ol1!LO @ 07:11

  • o0h wich reminds me,i have 1 still in my possesion wich is older(not2brag o.s.)

It is the version where the keyboard can b detached from the whole unit.

I know its the 1st 16color laptop ever made by compaq/toshiba!

    Why i share this?

ITS FOR SALE FOR THE 1ST ONE WHO CAN GIVE AN OFFER THAT COVERS THE 'RARENESS' IN FROM WHATS THIS WORTH!

gday! Dan Blazing on Facebook(add me if intrested^^)

  • it's an Alienware

  • @Ferhod LOL

  • Awesome widescreen display. This laptop rivals with my 2010 Toshiba Satellite.

  • The question is.. Will it blend?

  • where is HDMI port ?

  • you are stuck in "doshell" lol

  • i would like to see what would happen with windows 3.1

  • @miviezgeneration

It would definitely work. Windows 3.1 was actually designed to run on an 8MHz 286 with 1MB RAM. It's not fast, but it's usable.

  • What are your FPS rates for Crysis?

  • @Ultranothing I think my fps were around 40-45... However its a very long time since I played Crysis, so I dont remember it clearly.

  • @Da9eI Must've upped the mem to 4 megs. My old 286/12 ran "The Red Baron" at an impressive 15-20.

  • @Ultranothing Oh, I thought you meant my every day use computer. Celarly this old compaq wont run crysis, but it does most old dos games that can handle monochrome display and less than 1mb of ram :) Red Baron, thats a _very_ long time ago! But I do remember it! I think I played it on a 486/25 with some cirrus logic display adapter back then, about in the mid 90s.

  • @Da9eI Yes, my attempt at simple sarcastic humor has backfired, it seems.

  • @Da9eI Is it true that you could put 4 C cells in it and power it instead of the built in battery? Is this just a rumor?

  • @farcher3 Yes it is true, except that you have to make contact on two of the cells to connect them in series, but I do not recommend this, the voltage is slightly higher than the Ni-Cd\Mh batteries and only last 20-30mins. This might be how I broke the backlight on the display (too high voltage). Right now the display is failing, last time I turned it on I only got blank screen and burnt e-smell, but I still could hear the harddrive booting. Tried to replace one cap, but didnt help.

  • @farcher3 Oh wait, I thought you meant D-cells (largest ones) C cells would be to small.

  • @Ultranothing FPH (frames per hour)

  • Wonder if it could even watch porn movies

  • lol you should take it to starbucks to see how many odd looks you'd get

  • FY FAEN... minner litt om Super Nintendo o.O.

  • well that proves that Simple is better

tiny fragile overpowered cheap massproduced laptops today breaks down all the time.

but big chumpy fairly powered and well made laptops like this proves that SIMPLE BUT WELL MADE is allways the best. otherwise this might not have worked.

it still serves its purpose as then...

  • @Spartan117JMC Excellent point! I think today, portable solutions such as the Panasonic Toughbook or, a few years ago the Thinkpad T series with the titanium-rubber composite frames were among the best made. My old T30 still chugs along!

  • Damn that thing is old

  • OH MY WOW THAT IS OLD

  • Id whack spacware on it then take it to starbucks and sit next to someone with a ipad (just for kicks)

  • I have that same laptop! It used to be my grandpa's but he gave it to my mom and while cleaning out the basement I found it! Now its mine. It doesn't work, I need to install the operating system, but I'm not sure I can because this is the only computer I own that has a floppy disk drive xD

  • I bet a mac as old as that was still better in it's hay day.

  • maybe windows 1.0?

  • i remeber taking a huge spaz at my old eurocom laptop a chuking it againts a wooden table as hard as i could it almost DIED OF BAD SECTORS and it was as SLOW AS A TURTLE! well what do you know its a masterpeice now boots whithin 6 seconds

  • what resolution is the screen?

  • you thats a cool laptop. if you up the ram it would probably run 3.1

  • @Dell0304 I belive it was upgradeable to 4 megs of ram back in the days, however finding parts for theese old computers are next to impossible nowdays. And if I were able to find a memory card, its would be expensive.

  • @Da9eI yeah, good point.

  • @Da9eI You can put Windows 3.0 on it. I've yet tried to run it on a 286 with 640KB of RAM and 20MB hard drive, well it's slow but runs (it was quite funny hearing the hard drive's stepper motor frenetically seeking the heads to load Windows :-D)

  • @mima14031985 If it had a normal resolution color display I would consider trying. I like it the way it is. ah.. I remenber those stepper motor harddrives, they were fantastic (but slow). However this computer have the modern type voice coil actuator harddrive design. I do have a copy of windows 1.0\1.01, somewhere..

  • @Da9eI I installed Win 3.0 on a Samsung S5000, which have a screen like your laptop's one, but not as crisp and well contrasted (it's barely readable). Even on this screen Win 3.0 is still usable, so I think it's worth a try on your laptop. Well, if you want, of course ;-)

My Samsung S5000 had a SCSI stepper motor drive (made by Micropolis) but was dead, so I had to replace it with another but with voice coil actuator, so not anymore stepper motor noises from that thing... :-(

  • @Dell0304

windows 3.1 would be slow. it has a 286 youknow.

windows 3.0 is the best it could run

  • @nelizmastr well, at least it can run windows. id put 2 or 3.0 on there.

  • @Dell0304 windows 2 isnt a good idea. its not a very good OS. for a 286, DOS is the best way to go.

  • @nelizmastr just sayin, DOS is a little too basic for me. win 3.0 then. but dos is ok. its just too basic for me.

  • vendes para portugual

  • That thing had a very defined clicking keyboard. You could also turn on and off the key-clicks, but they were so loud it didn't matter.

Keep it running, that thing is awesome!

  • Wow.. How they have changed over the years.

  • damn computer so old it in the black and white days

  • Da9eI, Not just another video, this one stands out.

  • I remeber when it was hardcore when i had 10GB in my desktop. lol!

  • Wow this laptop is very old and the screen is non color

  • That laptop looks more confusing then those today!

  • its the ports

  • you whats funny

back then tthey were small and thick

now they are big and skinny

  • operation system on the computer,,,

  • daand,, i dont think CD roms became common place till around 1990 LOL they were out there,, just not in all computers,, sooo,, 3.5 floppys were the main thing !!! when i went to school,, were were using those 5 inch floppys,, the ones that the computers had to Actually boot from,,there wuz no

  • x] Its my computer's great grandma!

  • yeah,, those things were like 3 grand when they came out!! just 10 years ago, laptops were still 1800.00 plus

  • When it was launched ... I can bet that it was more expensive than a VAIO or Apple today.

You'll see ... in 10-20 years, we'll make fun of how "old" an Macbook Air can be.

  • Recently my old Dell Inspiron laptop broke down and I was so devastated. I really loved it a lot but then I realize i have a new one which I'm using now. its 2009 HP and it can run 3d graphics and it loads so fast. there's a reason why old things break down which I won't beat myself up about since I like my new laptop, but I remember the memories I had with my dell one.

  • people always talkso badlt about dell but they are really great machines

  • I know and I still miss my dell laptop.

  • wow nice! I have a toshiba tecra 8000 myself, really like old laptops lol.

  • Wow, that's cool! And the battery still works!

Old computers are nice to look at.

  • Is that norton commander in MS-DOS? hm

Ooh man good old nostalgia! Cheers

  • yes it is :)

  • Yes I remember this, Norton Commander is a legendary app surely, cheers and respect

  • lol 3,5inch harddrive in a laptop

  • Just imagine that there was laptop with 5.25 HDD in them. I'm serious. There was a lot of this kind of laptops in late 80-s and early 90-s...

  • Do You Play Dos Games On It?

  • Yes sometimes, but since the screen has a very odd resoulution, + low graphic power and the backlight is gone it much better to play games in DosBOX

  • I want a year. A copyright date; a manufacture date on the machine; somrthing. Please. I have an old compaq laptop with Windows 95. It's got an actual lcd not that GameBoy display lol that's really old. It still works I'll post a video. Maybe a response? IDK. Your move.

  • When I tried to fix the backlight on the display I saw a date stamped behind it, on the "shell" of the computer. It said something like 11 October 1990. In the bios it says something like 1987, I belive this is the copyright date, and 1990 is the production date. Its costs $4500 new in Norway (for the 20meg version, If im not mistaken). I tooksome pictures inside of it when I had the computer apart, not sure where they are tho... I belive the LTE 4/25 ran win95, or mybe it was the 5000 series...

  • A commentary would have been really nice with the video of the computer.

  • Yeah, I know. As for the rest of my vids I dont talk in them either :P

I think its kinda wierd to talk into nothing, and allso Norwenglish sucks!

  • Dude yeah I hear that. In a lot of my videos I don't talk. And you can tell I'm not comfortable when I do.

  • Nice transreflective LCD screen! Looks like the old GameBoy Pocket. Also, Alley Cat! One of my all-time favorite PC games :-).

  • omg i just made the GameBoy analogy!!

  • I have a compaq Presario v4000 laptop and im going to install Linux Ubuntu 9.0 on the hard drive or i might make it boot from live cds

  • What is the OS?

  • DOS is the operating system (Disk Operating System) It is currently running ver 6.22 (actually mixed 5.0\6.22), but was original with 3.3x or 4.0. Im not sure Norton Commander 4.0 or 5.0 (dont remember) can be called an os... I will soon test it with windows 2.01 and see how it does!

  • nice carry case

  • how big is the hard drive

  • Its written in the sidebar. Its 21Mb (20Mb formatted)

  • MS DOS editor doesnt really edit any of the system sttings or anything but it can create text (.txt) files. after the computer is done doing its thing type cd dos and then type edit. to save press alt and go to save as by using the arrow keys or press s and to get out of it press alt and go down to close. to view the doc (it will usually be in C:\dos since thats where the prog is type this: type ????.txt ? is there since how am i supposed to know, also save it floppy if you'd feel like it.

  • Well, I have lots of experience using dos, and I know most of the commands. This version of DOS editor does not save files to *.txt, but to blank filenames with no extension ( "filename." ) or to specified extension. It allso edits and saves all other plain text files, such as bat and sys(which can be used for system settings) If the "path=" is set to the DOS folder, it isnt necessary to enter the DOS folder to execute programs from there. I have a lots of old computers, one with win3.11 :D

  • yep good old dos nice how it fits on 20 megs when Windows Vista doesnt even fit on 10 GIGS! Speaking of Windows why not put win2.0 on it! it is not very popular but i could make a boot disk (to copy to the hdd) and an applications disk (in case you get bored) i will email them to you, but send me a personal message asking for my address (because i dont want everyone else on youtube watching this getting my address) and i will email the stuff you need and the instructions to do it.

  • And i will need your address (send in a personal message)

  • your email address that is

  • use dosbox on your new computer, it is a free dos emulator thats so dos compatible, it can run dos games with sound and even windows 3.x (ive tested it, it works!) search dosbox in google or some other search engine and download it (it doesnt come bundled with any accessories), its technically ms dos 5 but ill tell you the basic commands so you wont have to worry about the details (in a personal message because it might be long)

  • i have one of these 2, but my bios battery is dead, and i can't replace it, 'cause it's built into the bios chip... how lame is that...

  • Can you use an external monitor with this unit? What a shame the backlight doesn't work anymore, but you can read the display without it.

  • I could use a CGA or even a Monochrome display. The display port looks like a inverted COM\RS232 port (female). Too bad I broke the plastic\ribbon cable inside the computer when I tried to find the back-light problem.

  • They made these for a while with a plasma display.

  • And some even had an internal power supply.

  • I have one of these. Unfortunately the hard drive in it died, and the setup diskettes are no longer readable by any floppy drive (they must be too old and the data has "worn off").

Do you happen to have a working setup/diagnostics diskette? If so, is it possible you could make an image and email it to me?

  • Funny how you mention the hard drives have a bad reputation for failing. Mine decided to fail one day completely out of the blue. I just turned it on as usual and got a hard disk error.

I had used it quite bit back in 2002 to learn programming (Turbo Pacal) on and for a science fair project (parallel ports are incredibly easy to use to interface homemade electronics as a novice hobbyist).

I had to get by with using only the floppy drive after the HDD died.

  • my mac classic did that and after a power outage the hard drive started working

  • Compaqs are very durable.

  • Too durable you should say because my old compaq is only 1/3 of an inch away from being as thick as that computer in the vid and it designed for XP!

  • hmm i have a 1987 laptop that puts that one to shame

  • Yep. I have seen older laptops that are stationary computers with a monitor and keyboard stuck to them. Actually called a "mobile" pc. I used to have a Toshiba T1000, it did not have a harddrive, only a 256k read only "SSD". Do not have it now tho.

  • My friend has one of those old laptops with a orange screen, you know one of the first laptops, it has lite a 3-4" screen and is as big as a dektop. The keyboard is a regular old keyboard that comes off the front area. It works and all. Im not sure if it is a battery powered one or not though, however there are the 5" or whatever floppies in it and he has like a fly simulator game. its kinda cool.

  • cool laptop but dam that thing is old

  • Awsome computer i want one @_@ its a pity about the backlight though, i recently got a lte 5250 running win 95 with 120 mhz p1,24 meg ram,800 meg hdd and 1.44 floppy drive.i love it.

  • Nice Notebook man, i own a LTE Elite 4/75CX & a LTE 5400 both are in absolut sweet condition, so i can use it for old Dos games or somthing equal.

  • laptops were cool back then coz they had all the ports you needed. Laptops these days are incomplete.

  • I have the same one!! Don't know if it still runs, Bios and running batterys are compleatly dead

  • Well, obviously I replaced them both, there is NO way a 18 year old NiCd battery still can hold a charge of 5+hrs! Even a lithium "long life" battery wont last this long!

  • Pretty Cool.
