The 3G iPhone uses firmware 2.0 which hasn't been jailbroken yet (only the betas have) because it's not in the final stage yet.

It will probably take about a month before ZiPhone works with 2.0.

So it's not that it's blocked. Even if you jailbroke it, the firmware 2.0 uses different frameworks than 1.x...so even if you could jailbreak and get Installer, every single application would have to be totally rewritten...just like Apple rewrote the entire iPhone OS.

No, the AppStore, which is Apple's official way to get applications. Installer programs are all terrible and programmed by amateurs. All the applications in Installer that are allowed to work with the SDK will be ported and will be free. Games like Bioshock or Spore, will not be free (duh...but then again, they're 100x better than the games in Installer)
