I understand what you were trying to do. It's a very old way to ferment fruit. But these days you don't have to bury it. Just put it in a dark cool spot in your basement. Brandy is a distilled wine. What you made is the wine part.
@bubba9877 - that's a good idea. I imagine that the dollar store 200 count work better than the macy's 1000 count ones. I guess it doesn't matter 'cause all i have is the 200 count dollar store pillow cases. LOL
No, he's right, you don't know what brandy is....not even the spirit of it. You have wine. Its sour because it fermented with wild yeast still on the fruit. And its incredible you didn't think the jars would be under pressure.....you're lucky they didn't blow up.
neat i looked at your vids and ironheads but i couldnt find how to do this... i gots the digging up and filter parts but what do i stick in the jars do i cook it? yeast ? thanks for the vids
@mywootgarden - Hey woot! did you watch ironhead's "canning peaches what to do with the peeling and pits". I'm not really sure of the chemistry behind it, but basically, you put the pits and peels from peaches about 3/4 full in a quart jar. Fill the jar with sugar water (cups sugar to a gallon of water). bury in august and dig in december...
hi if u want it clear like water get a gelatine leaf soak it in cold water for 20 mins/ then add a little boiling water till disolved and put it in yer juice and stir well then leave it for 2 days and siphin leaving all the sedament at the bottom it will be very clear
@MrNeiluk - uh, this actually sounds very interesting. do you know of any videos that someone has done this or could/would you post something doing this.
@tnjeffofalltrades i havent seen any vids on other peaple doing it yet but it works/ but the best stuff to clear anything is turbo clear its in 2 parts sum peaple use egg whites that works to i distill my own moonshine to/ or if u want proper brandy u take a bottle of red wine put it thru a still and get the alchol out and put it in a jar with sum oak chips and just leave it for months or year thats how u make brandy
Nice video, I guess Ironhead has the how to? Oh, you just said he would post it
I bet a juicer would do wonders with that mess. You can find them cheap at bargain stores. I have one new in a box I got for a few bucks I've been thinking about using, but they are a pain to clean, so I'd also thought about selling it
My ol man used to make brandied fruit, it was Awsome on ice cream, nice sweet and excellent quality and I bet you could get drinkable brandy out of it
I don't know if a juicer would filter it enough. We ran this through 3 plies of coffee filters. It'll give you something you don't want if you drink it unfiltered.
A juicer removes the pulp by whipping the whole mess against a pretty fine filter, and I don't think the rest contains anything that would make you sicker than the liquid would
Sealed like that and with the Alcohol content bad stuff would have a hard time living, fruit won't usually make you sick. You could raise the temp to kill anything, if you think that would be a problem. Don't know what that would do to the taste though
And nothing would stop you from filtering it, after you juiced it
It could juice out some stuff that wouldn't taste so good though. It would take a lot of the work time out of it.
We used to make brandied fruit, and ate it all. It was great actually. I need to get that secret, seems like you need the stuff for a starter. It was said that came from a start 2000 years old, which was kinda gross, but it tasted great.
you are crazy, is not better to buy a bottle in local store??

Nice video......get a small wine filter. It costs about 150. Age it on some medium toasted french oak. It should give it more of a pop.

So, you got two jars worth from 4 you started with?
I think the blindness comes from drinking too much of this stuff - not from missing IH41 vids.
Congrats on another successful project!
