It is possible the footage was real.You ask how they kept the water out of the jet intakes. Perhaps there are flaps which open as soon as the rocket thruster is fired. Then the jet may switch to its' normal propulsion mode. Certainly this may be real. No captions said it was fake, although the plane appeared wobbly during rocket firing. Maybe a ZZR 1400 can do the same thing.
