One of my favorite bands of all time. I went to high school with these guys in La Jolla. The bass player, Topper Rimel, is and was a really nice guy. Michael Andrews and Gary Jules went on to cover the Tears For Fears song "Mad World" for the movie "Donnie Darko". It was a huge hit. This song brings back some truly wonderful memories.
Was lucky enough to see these guys play Atlanta, and chat with Michael. Loved the first album, the second album was a little bit of a challenge but I came to love it. So sorry they couldn't make the band work, lots of great stuff in a short career and this song is just one example.
I can't help but wonder what happened to these guys. My brother, 4 years older than me, encountered them on the 'indy rock' station in college back in the day. We both had their 2 CD's but mine got lost in a move. I wish iTunes would pick them up, as they are two fantastic CD's.
Does anyone know if any of these guys are still playing/singing?
Those were my sentiments exactly. WDRE was a great station back then. I have fond memories of listening while engaging in homework procrastination. I had this CD, but haven't heard the song in years. I'm so pleased to find it here. Cheers!
I saw The Origin open up for Midnight Oil in MN oh geez.. 15 years ago? I remember learning this piano ditty and still play it to warm up to this day! It was way cool live.
I've just been listening to their first album, and came online to look them up. Nobody I've met has ever heard of them. But it's one of the best records I've ever heard.
It's nice to know that others out there like this song as much as I do. I found this CD in a used CD shop and discovered that the rest of it is good too.
Great find too, first time I've heard this in 15 years or more. This got a bit of airplay on UK radio at the time it was released in US, but the DJ who played them kept touting them as one of the first "rave" bands, a la EMF! Nothign like it. Studenty, but NOT rave as it came to be!! Great bit of underground indie history...
I saw them open up for midnight oil in 1990 or 91 at CW Post college here on Long Island. I also saw them when i was away at school in Providence in 1991 at club Babyhead. Their second album was awesome too! Man those were the days! The mighty lemon drops, Ocean blue! So listen to this, Michael Andrews is the one who redid "Mad world" by Tears for Fears for the movie Donnie Darko IN 2003!
Thanks for the post. . . So reminds me of when I moved to New York in 1990 from Ireland and listening to WDRE. . .Chasing away all those homesick blues. . .
I saw them also, they were playing at malibou in Lido beach, i think, with something happens and the railway children in 90 or 91. It was a blur, i just can't remember. I saw the lemon drops at malibu and ocean blue at a college and i believe we got thrown out. Then there was the Pixies. Those were the days
i went to SDSU as well, and they were a local La jolla band,, the whole cd is actually pretty good,,gut "im not growing old" is the best song on the cd
I love this song. I'm 17 and It makes me realise that getting old sucks.

Playing some old college radio shows I did from 1990. This song came along. The video and song are indeed, timeless.

Lovely pop song, this; a real blast from the past. Thank you for posting.
Lead singer's nice eye candy, too. Though the bassist looks disturbingly like the English footballer Frank Lampard.

I know that I'm starting to sound like an old man-but they just don't make music like they did between 1991-1997.
