This may not be the greatest thing here, but without question, his drumming on Herbie Hancock's Headhunters album is some on the most inventive, white hot drumming ever. By 1985, this video this whole genre had been a corpse 10 years cold. But still a cash cow... jazz for lobbyists and medical professionals, you know, wooden heads.
The best way to distinguish Gadd's drum style from Mason's is listen to "BJ4" (Gadd) and "Mister Magic" (Mason). There is a difference. BTW, fantastic post.
He's got a great sense of humor in his playing, something I see very rarely with modern drumming. For the "big" fusion guys its all about competition, being the fastest, the most complicated, playing the weirdest off-time patterns back to back, without giving the audience a chance to think about what they're hearing. And then there's Harvey Mason, playing with fun, musical, humorous phrases, and playing a solo far more impressive, smooth, and fun to hear than any Lang/Donati/Mangini wankfest.
Those ghost notes on the snare, that hi-hat work, the tom-toms... Nobody does it like Harvey Mason. A lot of drummers work hard to try to emulate the greats. From Elvin Jones to Tony Williams to Steve Gadd, etc. I have yet to hear someone emulate Harvey's distinct style.

Harvey plays on George Benson's Breezin', my all-time favourite album start to finish, all instrumental apart from This Masquerade; can't recommend highly enough.

@Dazzer1234567 Perhaps you should listen to Peter Erskine a bit more. He's a very musical drummer
