I disagree, It can add to the realism of games when they have genuine ads in them. Billboards in GTA or the adds along the sides in sports games. I mean there are ads there anyway and they are usually just the company logo. Why not have real ads there. It just makes it more like real life. I don't think they could fit them into something like Uncharted where you're exploring a tomb and then you find an add for Red Bull or something, that wouldn't fit, but if integrated right they are ok
I think in game ads are a step in the right direction, if they are in context they can even contribute something to a game.
Even those ugly posters you see in counterstrike and quake offer a change in scenery once in a while. Not to mention their hand in keeping old servers alive.
On the other hand I hope games don't grow to rely on game ads. People play games as a form of escape and a Mc cheezburger has no place in my fantasy land.
Product Placement and Advertisement are two different things. This is cool. It's advertising and doesn't bother you. Ads are annoying when they pop and disrupt gameplay. (iPhone) However, Product Placement I find more fun. It's cool finding endorsements and mistakes for product placement. Ever watch a movie or TV show and they're using a computor. Most the time you can see an Apple. But in a movie like Iron Man, they have Apples on the back but are giant, futuristic, non-exsitant Macs. Cool eh?
I think ads in games aren't that bad. If used correctly, it can make the gaming-experience feel more realistic. I mean, I'd rather see a Google ad then a "Groogle" ad.
Books and film don't have adverts DURING the experience, why should gamers have to be bombarded with adverts, especially when they've already paid for the product. Perhaps within Free-to-Play titles, but not commercials ones.
Haven't watched an action movie lately? Movies are loaded with product placement and other forms of adverts. For example take the latest two 007 movies they are loaded with sony adverts.
One of the worst examples I can think of is I-Robot.

All these ads look like warts on games.

I miss fake ads (remember Mario Kart 64?) more than I love real life ads.

I like adverts in games, so long as they don't look out of place.

they should cut the cost of the game when they have in-game ads.

Even the old ones. I found at least 5 coca-cola ads in goldfinger just by pressing pause at random places.

Sure they do. Often you will find a character wearing only a certain brand of clothing or using a specific product.
