@ironysteeth You obviously didn't learn the scientific 'meathod', otherwise you would know how dumb saying "Thus it is still theory" is. House doesn't believe in god. He believes religion is a crutch for the weak who can't accept the idea of nothingness after death. you should read House and Philosophy Everybody Lies, edited by Henry Jacoby
If God gave us a 'reason' to believe in him then faith would not be a virtue. I dunno what this has to do with anything, but a lot of comments I read here seem to miss the point, so there it is.
@KirschwasserMOMO why/how would faith be a virtue??!! Never was, never will be.. dont think a superior being would appreciate confident claims over moral actions, thats just absurd on too many levels. faith is the fools knowledge
@haerverk What type of faith? Too often people use that word and have different meanings. People who are religious hear people say they have no faith and think they are some sort of nihilistic depressed emo jagoffs. Faith in humanity is hope. Faith in your friends is trust. Faith that some supernatural being is watching over us and telling us stuff to do and it involves hating gays and eating bread while pretending it is demigod flesh? That is religion to some, but to me, gullibility.
He's a skeptic, and yes an atheist, which is openly hinted in many episodes that I can't unfortunately name right off the bat. Huge Laurie is an atheist as well lol. Weird combo, I'd say.
And it's all horrifically true. If there is a god, He's obviously not paying much attention, or really giving us much reason to believe. A 2000 year old book that's been mangled beyond comprehension by mistranslation and deliberate meddling of ambitious clergymen? Not only allowing, but encouraging intolerance, bigotry, sexism and homophobia?
Not a god I'd want to worship, even if it did exist.
OH? Did he give it up in season six? I've only seen up to season five, I have to wait for the sixth boxset to see it. I can't believe he finally actually went off it!
This song is so ironic! He/she is saying he/she dosn't or can't believe in God... yet he/she is writing a "letter" to the very person he/she says dosn't exist! LOL!! i like the beat though
Yes, that's the whole point. Andy Partridge is furious with God for not having the decency to actually exist. He's saying, "You SHOULD exist, but you don't...you thoughtless bastard".
Even being an atheist has its emotional complexities.
Has religion in the past, is it in the present, and will it continue to make people behave very, very stupidly? Most certainly.
Religion has caused wars, and hatred, and biases since always. All I ask of the atheists on this page is that you do not lump all people who believe in God or gods into the category of "religious nuts".
Someone questions my beliefs or attacks my beliefs, I talk and reason like a decent human being. As I'm doing now.
Understandable and acceptable. The problem is that you are trying to talk and reason with the Atheist equivalent of religious nuts. Like that perfectshot77 guy who I just noticed typed "DON'T PROCREATE".
It's very handy with comments like these that you can choose who to respond to. So your plea was a waste of finger strenght as it was directed at Atheist nuts
@Seven21x Um........ dude, check the difference between a "theory" and a Scientific Theory. Same with the theory of music, or the theory of gravity. You can't possibly believe in music, it's just a theory, it doesn't exist nor can be tested, right?!! Get that straight, and read, evolution is testifyable and first-hand testable. (How do you think we get vaccines for virsues? Theory of Evolution.)
You are both wrong. Because music isn't a theory. It's been proven, therefore it exists. You believe it but you don't make a belief around it. There are only scientific theories, i.e. well thought out to explain something.
@Seven21x Science adjusts it's views And theories based on what's observed. Faith is the denial of what's observed in order to preserve belief. Evolution is an idea. You can change an idea. Changing a belief? Well, more than 80 years since latex condoms where invented.
Also, when Darwin first put forward Evolution, the church accepted it. They said it all makes sense as they believed it was initiated by a higher power. What they didn't like was the fact that it seemed to say that nature didn't care what evolved. One thing might evolve grotesquely and become easy prey, or it might evolve beautifully. But it was usually the latter. They had no objections at first except for that
The Church was reluctuant towards the Darwin's findings. You didn't really read differences between a coloquially understood "theory", and scientific 'theory. The theory of music is a scientific theory, same with the theory of gravity (gravity ain't real?), Germ theory of disease ( germs aren't real?).
You have no knowledge of definitions you're using.
@UAintDeleting I'll be nice and explain it to you in simpler words. Theory is a description of a phenomenon, phenomenon that exists. "The theory of Evolution" or "Theory of Music" cannot be anything more than a theory because this is a description of how things work. Evolution is a fact itself, the theory explains the phenomenon it isn't THE phenomenon itself. Same with music, music exists ,but theory of music EXPLAINS how it works. It isn't that hard.
That's not Theory of Music. It's Music Theory. There's a HUGE difference. Music Theory attempts to find patterns in the techniques of composers. Saying Theory of Music implies someone had an idea that this excellent pattern in sound exists but I can't yet prove it. If it was called Evolution Theory, it would the study of how, after it's been proven, Evolution works. And please don't Ever talk down to someone in that condescending know-it-all way you just did. It's Too pompous
@UAintDeletingThis1 Read the first paragraph of the article that I have given you, if still not enough, read the whole thing and check reference sources.
Faith, sir, does necessarily imply mindless denial. Now you're the one using words incorrectly. The religious faith of some - some, mind you! - is not a proper example of the definition of that word. If I have faith there is a higher power, what fact am I denying? Can you prove to me there isn't? As you have previously acknowledged that I am in fact reasonable, I really have no point to argue with you. However, I shall protest the implication that faith is synonymous of denial.
You should probably wiki faith. You won't like it. Also, I didn't say 'mindless denial', merely denial. The fact that there is no evidence of any higher power is reason enough not to believe in something. No evidence. At all. But believe away if it makes you happy. The only thing I mind about is people self-righteously trying to explain why Atheists are wrong which is quite impossible
I didn't have a problem with the wiki article. I know people who don't care for faith make it synonymous with illogic. The only thing I have issue with are the suggestions of self-righteous atheists who claim all theists tyrannical fools. I believe, therefore, that you and I have no issue. So I bid you good day, and while I don't care for this song in particular I will say thank you for all the House song uploads!
"The mystery of the beginning of all things is insoluble by us; and I for one must be content to remain an agnostic"
-Charles Darwin
I have made my statement and as both our minds are made up I have no desire to further argue the point with you. My point stands however - there are things that evolution cannot explain. I do not deny there is some natural selection, but as to the origins of the beginning of life I'm sure our thoughts differ marvelously.
Giving the times he was living and not knowing what were the actual mutations about, yeah agnosticism was reasonable then. Now you're going to abiogenesis, which is not evolution. Evolution explains variation in species, and how they came to be. You're right can't talk to someone who doesn't know basics of biology. Have fun.
Agnostic means you don't know. Atheist means you don't believe. There's a difference, and one can be both.
A scientific theory is very different from a theory in the popular sense. A scientific theory has known laws backing it up, along with experiments and evidence. Nothing in science requires faith; it's not the same as religion.
We KNOW evolution exists; it's been proven time and time again. It plays a major part in the medical field; they see it daily.
@MagicansForce We believe there is evolution, we cant prove it dummy... we can prove nothing... what school did you go to?! Scientific Crap... First thing I learnt was things show there is evolution... it doesnt prove.
Actually, you're wrong. Evolution is a proven fact; while the theory is still being refined, we know it occurs. We see it in bacteria constantly. And we have enormous amounts of evidence in the form of DNA, bone structures, and fossils. Scientific theory isn't a 'belief', like religious crap. It's backed up with evidence and thought-out, repetitive experiments.
You need to go back to Biology class. Every book I've read written by scientist says evolution is a fact.
Dude I am in med school, so I dont need to go back to some biology book to know what I am talking about... Theories are: tested hypothesis that showed to be right. What we see in bacteria, plants, fungi, every living organism is called adaptation to environment. Scientists call that evolution. For 600 years scientists had the theory that light is a wave. 70 years ago proven wrong. Light is Particle Like Wave. In Science you never Prove; you test. and keep testing, until better theory...etc......
@MagicansForce Every book I've read written by racists, say racism is good.
You can't believe what you read.
But as an Agnostic, I do have to believe you. Evolution is a fact, no 'God' in his right mind would create different races hell-bent on destroying one another.
@dnangelfan24 Ah, but racists aren't put in an environment where everything they say is constantly peer-reviewed and examined for holes. Their process doesn't include being able to support what they say. That's how it is for scientists. A major part of the scientific community is trying constantly to prove each other wrong. Therefore, if the vast majority of scientists say "studies this to be so," then there's a very good chance that it is so.
@DukeDarthvader Where did you go to school? Ask for your parent's money back. "we can prove nothing" Do you mean we can't prove anything? "Scientific Crap" what is that may I ask?
@MagicansForce Agnostic means you are a coward and are afraid to make a decision. You believe or don't believe or you're afraid of what your friends and family will say.
The fact that he's invisible and there is no evidence of his existence leads me to believe that the chances of him existing are as slim as an anorexic beanpole.
a figure in our image that made the universe called god does not exist. God does not exist. If you begin to think for yourself rather than blindly follow a handed down religion, this is pretty evident. There is still alot to believe in though, and alot of the universe we don't understand. just because we don't know our purpose, doesn't mean there isn't one.
dudies.. god is a story made by people who cannot feel for themselves.. they made "god" to think for them instead of haing a free mind...organised religion ruined the whole fucking world.. i mean seriously.... in 1999.. end of the world.. didnt happen.. 2012.. not gonna happen.. anyways.. the song is sooooo fucking brilliant..
The idea of God is that he cares about his people. But y cant God be apathetic. Seriously, does dat mean if God was an ass that he wouldnt be God. I think humans r pretty narcisstic. We have written an epic book about how we would eventually be saved.
for all christian watching this (including my self) please don't try to talk about God to these atheists without a really good understanding of the bible and a pethetic understanging of our great lord (just try to fully understand God and you'll see why i said a pethetic understandin of Him). but if you do understand the bible quite well than by all means share our faith.
Funny that she is talking to God yet she says she doesn't believe in him. This is definitely your garden variety Sarah McLachlan song. I believe in God, but I also believe that he gave us free will to do what we want, thats why the world sucks!!! And it makes it so much better when we come back to him :)
I feel sorry for you if your perception of faith exists solely in man's bastardization of God. Religion is a tool used to control the masses, but the truth is the light.
Oh yeah, and my beautiful Sarah is the last person that would end up in anything like hell. The muses are exempt. :D
Sorry but my perception of everything is limited to that of a man. As is yours and everybody else's no matter how prophetic they may feel.
God arrived to quell our queries on the unknown, heaven arrived to announce what we believe we deserve(If you don't like what you got you don't deserve more), hell arrived to scare us away from the bad thoughts we all get, and religion arrived to subjugate, to discriminate, to demoralise and to organise.
I would advance that God "arrived" at the onset of self awareness, although it exists always (backwards and forwards). The rest was designed to control those too lazy, stupid, or desperate to think for themselves. It's science that came about out of a desire to answer the imaginable questions and manipulate the perceivable construct.
Haha, dude I was just being sarcastic, hence the "cracking up" emoticon at the end -> "XD" - the idea that eternal torture and omni-benevolence are somehow compatible is, of course, ABSOLUTELY absurd, I was just making fun of those who believe such nonsense, whether they explicitly express it or not. So "cheers" and keep fighting the good fight!
(this song is awesome by the way, thanks to UAintDeletingThis1 for uploading this and the Hitman soundtracks!) :)
@lynich84 My theory about that (I'm sure i'm not alone) is that we get a taste of the omnibenevolence here in this life that was there in full at the beginning of the world, in the fallen imperfect way that is still available now as it fades away and when it's gone and we're left to ourselves without it, Hell begins. The real Lover is God

So if I believe in God what do I have to lose? Ive found peace and happiness so if I die and that's it i'm fine with it. If you die and find out there is a God...I'd much rather be on my side of the story.
I dont know bout that one. People say Im a whole lot easier to get along with now that Im a Christian. I haven't lost any of my friends and they seem to respect the fact that Im not gonna shoot crack anymore. Lost personality?
Oh, you're Christian from trying to get of crack? Never mind what I said. You use religion perfectly. If a belief can fix your life, then believe away is what I think. My point still stands, it just doesn't apply to you. And by lost personality, I mean that how you would think, how efficiently you think and how you act changes completely when your religion is called into question. At that point, no matter how nice you may be, you are no longer yourself because you fear being wrong.
Terrorism is just a word used to describe an act. Fear to get shit done. The word itself doesn't matter. But when overused, it's meaning no longer matters and everyone fears the word, i.e. Bush Administration Propaganda. They did the opposite of what America does. They inspired fear instead of hope because there was no trouble at all. When you hear your President or Secretary of Defense saying how easily you'll win, then and only then should you be afraid
The message of God has been consistent and clear, & it is not hard to understand.
The illness and tragedy on this planet can be summed up with one word: sin.
We see it in the disregard.
Disregard of God.
Disregard of others.
Disregard of the planet.
The problems we see in this world are not a reflection of God, but of our disregard.
If we followed the gospel of Jesus Christ, heaven would be here already.
If you really care about this world, repent of sins, study the gospel of Christ & go love.

If God gave us a 'reason' to believe in him then faith would not be a virtue. I dunno what this has to do with anything, but a lot of comments I read here seem to miss the point, so there it is.
KirschwasserMOMO 1 year ago
@KirschwasserMOMO why/how would faith be a virtue??!! Never was, never will be.. dont think a superior being would appreciate confident claims over moral actions, thats just absurd on too many levels. faith is the fools knowledge
haerverk 1 year ago 9
@haerverk What type of faith? Too often people use that word and have different meanings. People who are religious hear people say they have no faith and think they are some sort of nihilistic depressed emo jagoffs. Faith in humanity is hope. Faith in your friends is trust. Faith that some supernatural being is watching over us and telling us stuff to do and it involves hating gays and eating bread while pretending it is demigod flesh? That is religion to some, but to me, gullibility.

Yes, that's the whole point. Andy Partridge is furious with God for not having the decency to actually exist. He's saying, "You SHOULD exist, but you don't...you thoughtless bastard".

Do I personally believe in God? Yes.

RankAndFileGuy 1 year ago
You are both wrong. Because music isn't a theory. It's been proven, therefore it exists. You believe it but you don't make a belief around it. There are only scientific theories, i.e. well thought out to explain something.
@Seven21x Science adjusts it's views And theories based on what's observed. Faith is the denial of what's observed in order to preserve belief. Evolution is an idea. You can change an idea. Changing a belief? Well, more than 80 years since latex condoms where invented.
UAintDeletingThis1 1 year ago
Also, when Darwin first put forward Evolution, the church accepted it. They said it all makes sense as they believed it was initiated by a higher power. What they didn't like was the fact that it seemed to say that nature didn't care what evolved. One thing might evolve grotesquely and become easy prey, or it might evolve beautifully. But it was usually the latter. They had no objections at first except for that
UAintDeletingThis1 1 year ago
The Church was reluctuant towards the Darwin's findings. You didn't really read differences between a coloquially understood "theory", and scientific 'theory. The theory of music is a scientific theory, same with the theory of gravity (gravity ain't real?), Germ theory of disease ( germs aren't real?).
You have no knowledge of definitions you're using.
RankAndFileGuy 1 year ago
@UAintDeleting I'll be nice and explain it to you in simpler words. Theory is a description of a phenomenon, phenomenon that exists. "The theory of Evolution" or "Theory of Music" cannot be anything more than a theory because this is a description of how things work. Evolution is a fact itself, the theory explains the phenomenon it isn't THE phenomenon itself. Same with music, music exists ,but theory of music EXPLAINS how it works. It isn't that hard.
RankAndFileGuy 1 year ago
@RankAndFileGuy
UAintDeletingThis1 1 year ago
@UAintDeletingThis1 Read the first paragraph of the article that I have given you, if still not enough, read the whole thing and check reference sources.
RankAndFileGuy 1 year ago
...what article? There isn't any link.
UAintDeletingThis1 1 year ago
Faith, sir, does necessarily imply mindless denial. Now you're the one using words incorrectly. The religious faith of some - some, mind you! - is not a proper example of the definition of that word. If I have faith there is a higher power, what fact am I denying? Can you prove to me there isn't? As you have previously acknowledged that I am in fact reasonable, I really have no point to argue with you. However, I shall protest the implication that faith is synonymous of denial.
Seven21x 1 year ago
@Seven21x
UAintDeletingThis1 1 year ago
@UAintDeletingThis1

Seven21x 1 year ago
Giving the times he was living and not knowing what were the actual mutations about, yeah agnosticism was reasonable then. Now you're going to abiogenesis, which is not evolution. Evolution explains variation in species, and how they came to be. You're right can't talk to someone who doesn't know basics of biology. Have fun.
RankAndFileGuy 1 year ago
Agnostic means you don't know. Atheist means you don't believe. There's a difference, and one can be both.
A scientific theory is very different from a theory in the popular sense. A scientific theory has known laws backing it up, along with experiments and evidence. Nothing in science requires faith; it's not the same as religion.
We KNOW evolution exists; it's been proven time and time again. It plays a major part in the medical field; they see it daily.
We have the fossils. We win.
MagicansForce 1 year ago
@MagicansForce We believe there is evolution, we cant prove it dummy... we can prove nothing... what school did you go to?! Scientific Crap... First thing I learnt was things show there is evolution... it doesnt prove.
DukeDarthvader 1 year ago
Actually, you're wrong. Evolution is a proven fact; while the theory is still being refined, we know it occurs. We see it in bacteria constantly. And we have enormous amounts of evidence in the form of DNA, bone structures, and fossils. Scientific theory isn't a 'belief', like religious crap. It's backed up with evidence and thought-out, repetitive experiments.
You need to go back to Biology class. Every book I've read written by scientist says evolution is a fact.
MagicansForce 1 year ago 39
Dude I am in med school, so I dont need to go back to some biology book to know what I am talking about... Theories are: tested hypothesis that showed to be right. What we see in bacteria, plants, fungi, every living organism is called adaptation to environment. Scientists call that evolution. For 600 years scientists had the theory that light is a wave. 70 years ago proven wrong. Light is Particle Like Wave. In Science you never Prove; you test. and keep testing, until better theory...etc......
DukeDarthvader 1 year ago
@MagicansForce Every book I've read written by racists, say racism is good.
You can't believe what you read.
But as an Agnostic, I do have to believe you. Evolution is a fact, no 'God' in his right mind would create different races hell-bent on destroying one another.
dnangelfan24 1 year ago
@dnangelfan24 Ah, but racists aren't put in an environment where everything they say is constantly peer-reviewed and examined for holes. Their process doesn't include being able to support what they say. That's how it is for scientists. A major part of the scientific community is trying constantly to prove each other wrong. Therefore, if the vast majority of scientists say "studies this to be so," then there's a very good chance that it is so.
MagicansForce 1 year ago
@MagicansForce One of the first things you learn in any science class is that you can NEVER prove a theory.
xnxoxsx 5 months ago

a figure in our image that made the universe called god does not exist. God does not exist. If you begin to think for yourself rather than blindly follow a handed down religion, this is pretty evident. There is still alot to believe in though, and alot of the universe we don't understand. just because we don't know our purpose, doesn't mean there isn't one.

UAintDeletingThis1 2 years ago
I feel sorry for you if your perception of faith exists solely in man's bastardization of God. Religion is a tool used to control the masses, but the truth is the light.
Oh yeah, and my beautiful Sarah is the last person that would end up in anything like hell. The muses are exempt. :D
g0dxilla 2 years ago 3
Sorry but my perception of everything is limited to that of a man. As is yours and everybody else's no matter how prophetic they may feel.
God arrived to quell our queries on the unknown, heaven arrived to announce what we believe we deserve(If you don't like what you got you don't deserve more), hell arrived to scare us away from the bad thoughts we all get, and religion arrived to subjugate, to discriminate, to demoralise and to organise.
UAintDeletingThis1 2 years ago
There's no money or control in something that can be easily disproven. The Bible is like support beams.

I would advance that God "arrived" at the onset of self awareness, although it exists always (backwards and forwards). The rest was designed to control those too lazy, stupid, or desperate to think for themselves. It's science that came about out of a desire to answer the imaginable questions and manipulate the perceivable construct.

craigharlow4christ 2 years ago
