We don't need high speed rail and we CANNOT affort it now. Nobody will ride this stupid train from LA to SF. It will never be build. If they did get funding it will go into the pockets of the scum bag lawyers who will fight this tooth and nail. Every passanger rail in the country is subsidized. BART is subsidized. This is a terrible idea. What's it cost to fly from SF to LA, $100 or so. Who will ride this train? Nobody.
Anyone who wants to bring more than 3oz of liquids with them will ride it. Anyone who objects to TSA's ridiculous virtual strip-search machine will ride it. Anyone who wants to travel without the egregious loss of dignity that occurs in the name of "making flying safer" will do it. That's who.
Were you born that stupid or did you have to train for it? The damn thing will never be built. The lawsuits from the environmentalists will stop it if nothing else. All the security issues with flying will also apply to riding this train. It could never pay for itslef without government subsidies. It's inconvenient. These idiot young folks in this video haven't a clue about what they are saying. Soneone is paying them to say it. They are as dumb as you are yang.
I should be asking YOU the same thing. Environmentalists won't be suing because it's better than what would otherwise happen (more runways on LAX/SFO/SAN, more highway lanes). Rail won't have the same security issues as flying because the federal government won't force it (too disastrous). Yes, it can pay for itself; Japan's HSR operators have been completely privatized since 1987. Tell me where we would be if federal, state, and local governments stopped paying to maintain the highway system.
Environmentalists NOT suing? You must be from another planet. They will sue at the drop of a hat. The scum bag lawyers are probably already salivating. If they sue to stop to stop Solar Projects they will sue to stop "high speed" rail. Japan has much high population density than US making rail travel much more feasible. Passenger rail in Europe is subsidized heavily. Hey ever hear of Amtrak? Go read up on it. Besides why should those in other parts of state pay for the boon doggle?
Then they aren't true environmentalists. And have a better look at Japan- population density is similar to Cali on the northern route, which is quite successful. And they also helped make it successful by offering commuter passes for short distances. Europe- well, if we pulled all federal funding from the airports and ATC and let all the airlines die back when they were going through Ch. 11, how would that fly (pun intended)? Funding? Run it to Tijuana and get some Mexicans in on it?
@juscurious dude just shut the hell up ok keep comments to ur self i support the train idk why u hate it so much i dont care tho but just shut up u sound like your the devil
@mquiroz90 Can you please learn English so that you can compose a readable post? And I know plenty about trains. The state of California presently has a 26 billion dollar deficit and we are still considering this stupid train. The damn thing is up to 43 billion dollars and they haven't even broken ground. What type of idiot will buy a bond to support this idiotic train. So a lack of funding might just kill this thing off. This train is one of the worst ideas I've ever heard of.
Why would You Vote for new TAXES especially when our state is in shamble financially. Light rail would be nice and fixing our environment would be nice lets forget about those things and fix our state government and our deficit. 1A is a TWO YEAR TAX INCREASE to feed the our jackass politictians pet projects. The state needs to go down Recall, Repeal, and Revolt. NO MORE TAXES!!!!!!!!
I can't believe you guys want to pass this thing. Before you buy things do you ever consider how much money you have first? California is still in the middle of a massive budget crisis and you want to spend $20 billion on a shiny new train with a credit card. The interest on this debt alone will cost around $1 billion a year. What are you thinking?
Some people just don't think, and many live beyond their means. Take the housing market and Sacramento's wasteful spending habits. The goose that laid the golden egg is in intensive care and may not pull through! The party is over!
The future is here, look around, we're broke and so is the State because they don't know how to spend wisely. No more bailouts from us taxpayers in the form of propositions!
As a general comment, does anyone here knnow why the backers of 1A use all these young people to promote it? There are a couple of reasons.
1. They are young and very naive.
2. They don't pay any or very little tax, except perhaps sales tax.
3. They will parrot anything told to them.
4. They MAY be getting paid.
5. The have no understanding that a Bond is a loan the MUST be paid back..
6. They don't realise the state is already in serious Debt.
7. They are really stupid.
