That response paints you in a much better light then the first. The screen reflects ONE of the hundreds we track, not all. The hundreds comment simply clarified for thestonerboys, that the sites we measure are normal everyday sites, and exclude tech, web dev, etc as stated. This gives a measurement of what normal people use. BTW, I'm not sure you realize, this was a parody of the hilariously inaccurate mac & pc ads that were flying around at the time. I don't profess to be a master of stats.
You don't appear to have a point. Your comment is built around what you believe to be an insult, as if I was not aware I am overweight. This in no way change's what is clearly depicted in the stats. lol.
Very astute. Most of our clients maintain their own sites via our CMS and sometimes do some things that are outside of our recommendations. (shocker) We have other clients as low as 12% home page bounce rate, and we are working with this client to improve theirs but since this is an event site and events are listed right on the home page I doubt we will ever get that low. It does fall below Avinash Kaushik's quoted 40-60% average. We are still trying to talk them into some A/B testing.
"...no I don't care about ONE unique example" yet your video is just that, lulz. If you want to know how high OSX browser share can get on a specific site category (you'd be surprised) the data is available from IDC, Alexa, and others.
Apparently you choose to skip the part about this being just one example of the hundreds we watch which I admitted to. It would seem also you have chosen to look past the fact that this is a fair representation and it does not markedly increase. Further you look past my admission that in select demographic cases it goes higher. In short, it seems you are only concerned with stating things I already know and have stated. No, I wouldn't be surprise, I have been doing this for over 12 years.
You seriously have made no substantiated, coherent, or rational point. A) This was a fun video to rebuff the silly Mac adds that are clearly not 100% truth. B) Most comments have included personal attacks which speaks volumes for the people posting, I try to stick to facts. C) I don't hate Mac's and I have repeatedly made that clear. I do have disdain for Mac Elitism. D) We thought the Pirate vid (on talk like a pirate day) was going to get way more hits. This vid was just thrown in.
As mentioned before, this is ONE of hundreds of our clients. I did not cherry pick. This is a fair representation of Mac traffic across the clients we represent which are a mix of everyday sites. It does go a bit higher on very specific sites, but not much higher. If you have proof to the contrary please feel free to point to a reputable source and no I don't care about ONE unique example. Nay saying is not evidence.
That was a stupid argument. Having more people use a PC doesn't make it superior because of its 95% web traffic. That just only caters to people developing exploits for Windows due to the larger usage base. Besides, PCs are so cheap these days, anyone can get it. No shit it's used by many; but it doesn't make it better.
That's like saying Toyota is better than a Bentley because more people drive Toyota vehicles than Bentley.
Ahhh, you might want to re-read/re-watch this and my comments...I never said ether platform was better. The whole concept is just to poke fun at the ridiculously biased Mac vs PC commercials. You seemingly have no issue with Apple trying to out and out proclaim it's superiority though. Who is indeed the fanboy?
I accept each as having strengths and weaknesses.
If I was a fanboy why would I have included a video that shows a friend who uses both? Pontificate elsewhere please.
Maybe it was that four big letter word you put next to Macintosh OS users? Hmm let's see what it says... Fail!
Don't half-ass me that those words didn't magically appear there. You're obviously taking a jab at them, do I care? No. I use a PC too. I'm just tired of Mac users thinking they're better; and I'm even more tired of PC users like you crying about it, trying to defend your "superiority."
Touche, but please keep in mind this was a jab at the commercials which are riff with inaccurate innuendos and I am still not saying that PC's are superior, only that they represent a larger part of users than Mac users want to admit.
I too am tired of the Mac rhetoric, especially from people who have never used Vista or XP, hence the video.
I don't think anyone is confused about my intentions at taking a jab at them. I am however neither crying about it, or pushing superiority. :)
Did you even look at the pie chart? 95% represented the Windows OS.
Around < 5% representing Apple's OS.
The other operating systems composed of Linux, iPhone's Safari, ???, iPod touch's Safari, ???, Nintendo Wii, and a Palm OS phone represented less than 1% each of web traffic.
Your argument is valid that PC users can use other operating systems than Windows; but you are invalid that 5% are all Linux users.
The 4.22% were all Mac users; while less than 0.44% of people used Linux, and other operating systems for handheld devices (iPhone, Nintendo Wii, PalmOS etc)
Please provide a reputable source on both assertions.
We manage hundreds of normal everyday websites from which we can track actual, unbiased data to show how many people visit, platforms, browsers, yadda yadda. You see one on the video. Heck we have a client that is all Macs internally and they still don't break 10%.
I suppose the other 10-15% of Mac users may not be visiting web sites. Yeah, that's it. LOL
You guys need a new bit, the virus argument just doesn't hold any traction man.
macs don't get viruses because virus coders know that they are the minority. if someone wanted to write a horribly devastating virus/worm for the mac OS i'm sure they could with enough effort. the fact that they don't doesn't mean they can't. they just don't give a shit about macs.
Ok, so why hasn't someone done it to put Mac users in their place?
The minority argument is bullshit because people have been making it long enough that surely someone, somewhere would bother to make one to prove that Macs can get viruses.
because of exactly what i said- it's a horrible waste of time. not enough market share.
however someone did get root access to a macbook air in a 'pwn to own' contest, along with $10,000. the linux and vista systems did not get compromised and nobody won them. he used a previously unknown exploit in safari.
guess how long it took him?
2 minutes.
google 'pwn to own' if you want to read about it. the hacker stated:
"i chose the mac because of the three it was the easiest."
It isn't a horrible waste of time because all people try to achieve when they make a virus is to screw things up for everyone else, if they want to do that then why hasn't anyone made a virus for Mac OS X purely for the purpose of stopping smug Mac users from claiming they can't get viruses?
how fucking dense are you? the flaw in safari gave him root access to the fucking computer. he could just tell the computer to delete the entire hard drive if he wanted to.
knowing that exploit, someone could write some code that would self replicate like a worm and infect fucktons of macs maliciously.
you're giving too much credit to the "smug mac users" as if anybody actually gives a fuck about them and wants to "prove them wrong".
they already have been. i just showed you. end of story.
I use both PCs (Windows/Linux) and Macs (OSX/OS9) and I've used many other systems from commodore 64's to Amigas. I had good and bad things to say about each system. It's fanboys that I really hate the most.
For the record, I don't give a crap what platform you choose, but it is comments like this that cause me to have utter disdain for MAC elitists.
This is a failed excuse for purchasing a MAC. Something solved with easily obtainable free or cheap virus software solutions, AND by not engaging in stupid activities. Mac gets less because there is less of a reason to right them for that platform. Roughly 90% + less of a reason.
People who get them are largely to blame due to their activities.
It's not MAC, it's Mac. MAC = Media Address Code. Mac = Apple Macintosh computer.
I'm sorry that you have disdain for us Mac elitists, but we feel sorry for you and your lack of intellect, spelling ability, and overall attractiveness.
LOL. You guys seriously make this to easy. You really think that spewing hate speech and mean spirited comments endears people to you or Apple products? Is it possible that this is the exact attitude that turns so many others and I off? Apple has some really good products and forces competitiveness in the marketplace. You, and many others, could be cited as doing their products a grave disservice by acting as you do where it not for the fact that corporate pretty much does the same thing.
I'm making a joke that plays up to your assumption that Mac users are elitists. And doing that "flaming" thing that apparently everyone feels necessary to do on here, Slashdot, Digg, etc etc.
Mac users always respond to critical facts with personal attacks towards the individual making a clear argument about how the Mac-obsessed culture is...obsessed.
That response paints you in a much better light then the first. The screen reflects ONE of the hundreds we track, not all.
