  • I have 2 grandsons - the big one is 13 and the little one is almost 9. They both live with me, I'm their guardian. Does what it says on the tin LOL

  • why they call you granny ? YOU LOOK LIKE NO GRANNY !

  • So for cornering right foot stays and the left foot goesfront to back and you replace it again? I am an intermediate but rollerskating is my passion! :)

  • that beat is it!!! whats the name of this song?

  • i can skate backwards alright imy problem is turnning back around

  • @Leel12gauge Just turn round slowly in a semi-circular motion. Practice turning from front to back on your skates holding on to something first until you get the hang of it.

  • good video thanks for posting it

  • Nice hot stepping ! By the way, who does this song you have playing on your video and what is the name of it?

    Good skating song. :)

  • It's called One Day by Melchior A. Unless I didn't put end credits, it should be in the end credits at the end of the film. I do that so I don't get my mailbox jammed with requests. But I do have a Podcast channel :) and am planning to put more mixes up there shortly. Without tracklists ;) Rip the track!

  • @mordib2366 See below. One Day by Melchior A

  • Have you tried 2 pairs of socks in your skates? If there's not much room inside them 2 pairs of thin cotton sox might do. If they're too big. 2 pairs of sports tube sox.. I always carry plasters. Eventually, your feet will get used to the boots rubbing and your skin will harden up a l'il.

  • yeh i can skate backwards now, but i have a problem as i start to get blisters afta an hour or so

  • If gaining initial momentum from transition to backwards, again this method is best. But there are no hard and fast rules, try one leg and two (snaked) one might suit you better than the other.

  • i have been skating for a month now i can do a forward to back transition but i don't know what method to use for moving backwards, can you tell me one,

  • Easiest way is either to start off by pushing yourself backwards from a wall or rink edge and using the one leg snake method, you could also get a friend to puch you round the rink and use this method. The one leg snake method is easiest to get used to once you are moving. It's slow going at first but you need to be aimng to just be able to move backwards, even if it's slowly. It does take getting used to.

  • :) And I really am a granny.

  • now that's one cool granny :)

  • can i ask whats the best stop on inlines if your going at a fast speed ?

  • Sharp half turn, but it wears down your wheels quick.

  • It takes time for the torso and neck muscles to develop which will eventually enable you to look over your shoulder with no discomfort. If you look at how I'm positioned when I skate backwards, my upper half is turned so I can see what's going on behind me. I would avocate turning from back to front to stop but hockey stops are better if travelling at speed. Other than that, a plough stop will slow you down. T stops on in-lines will ruin your wheels.

  • I have seen a few tutorials on how to scate backwards and they all lack two things.

1 They don`t teach to look backwards.

2 They don`t show how to stop.

I bend knees a lot to and look backward (hard but managable)

But how do you stop? (the thing i can do is to quckly do 180 turn and stop normaly by making a letter T one leg horisonal hehind other)

PS I use inline scates NOT quads.

  • thank u so much you slowed it down and saw each step.....you should come to detroit mi. may the 24 they have the monhgonian skate with people of all races .come teach us and show us out.

  • I would have loved to have come. I do like to learn from folks. Over here, many of our better skaters are a little confrontational. I do mines a little way different ;) I have just got permanent custody of my grandsons, so no travel for me for a while I'm afraid.

  • I''m hoping to get to Kenny (Moodyman's) next soul skate. The DEMF was held last week-end and I know he was pretty busy this year. I still have the flyer on my fridgerator. A visit to Detroit's on the cards this year for me please God. Granny got her wings back almost LOL

  • Simple, easy and to the point. if u still cant skate after watching this, then its time to take up darts as your chosen sport. peace.

  • One Day - By Melchior A - the name is in the end credits.

  • omg u like TOTALLY saved me from embarrasing myself!! thx 4 having this video!!

  • thank you this helped alot

  • great help 4 begginers!thx!

  • thank you so much for having this video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thats whats up...memories!!! old school for real I am 47 and I get down just let that. I have been skating 4ever and will quit when I cannot walk...lol

  • Innit though ;) I'll be 46 month - Please God I'll still be skating when I'm old and mashed up LOL

  • ummm.....can you do another video to explain how to do the crossover it is confusing to me

  • Not at the moment Jim - too busy looking after my grandsons who are a real handful. It's quite simple really, the foot behind steps to the side a little then you lift the foot at the front and cross it over the foot which you've just side stepped on. You repeat the process - stepping and crossing, until you've gotten around the corner that you are skating round.

  • hey i've been skating since i was like 7 and can skate frontwards like a champ but no one ever taught me how to skate backwards thanx

  • Ah, I've been doing it 17 years - wasn't like that in the beginning trust me :) Do you skate with toe stops? If not, try turning your feet outwards, bending your knees, turning your feet outwards and pushing off from side to side swinging your arms as you go - that should help.

  • HOW DO U MAKE IT LOOK SO EASY ARGGGH LOL LOL!!

    p

  • hey hot steppin granny im a total beginner and i just got some quads but find when i go forward i always scrape my front of my left boot on the ground ta push me off and it feels wrong. how do i get a fluid skate pattern..i hope thats clear..sorry if it isnt!! cheers me dears!!

    P

  • The knitted things are rolled down hockey socks. The cushion things are called Puffas (acronym for ankle puffs). I'm primarily a rink skater and they're a UK outer London rink thing. When I'm dancing they help me to keep my feet equidistant and if I'm performing groundwork moves, they prevent my boots from getting damaged too badly, sort of like bumpers.

  • I see you wearing those things on your ankles but I can't find an explanation? What ARE they?

  • You're welcome. Just keep on practising.

  • This video is awsome. I am a beginner/intermediate just learning to go backward. You have been very helpful. Many thanks. Love your footsteps at the end WICKED! You go girl!!!!

  • Hey venom23434 I've been filming at the park this week-end. Crazy Legs is called different things by skaters all over the world. But it's my guess you mean the one wher you either go on your toes or your heels and roll, flick and twist to keep going. I can do it but only on my front inner 2 wheels, looks a little different from the trad. crazy legs. Look for the film with Pablo and Yvonne in it - coming up in a couple of days. Pablo does an incredible crazy legs.

  • LOL - Not when I'm skating backwards :)

  • Glad to be of assistance :)
