It was not his mistake, but his team's I think. He was using semi-wet tyres as the first driver on track and this decision turned out to be a bit rush as we all can see. :)

As I remember he took tires for dry surface already! It was decision made by him and his team together. They just took a risk and it unfortunately didn't pay off... As Kubica said it was because they haven't noticed puddle after pit lane-he made his tyres cold and wet there and then couldn't drive well... But few laps later(don't remember exactly... 5or6) other drivers started to change tyres and it was ok then.

And I agree with xmolxmol... Kubica did great job to avoid gravel!

from kubica itself, the track was getting dry fast..he decided to change the tyres a bit soon. The track was good for the dry tyres after 3-4 laps or so, just bad luck
