  • $20,000 in debt? Show me that school. That's what a semester costs in some colleges. Not reading your text book that you bought? It's never too late. Spending 2 hours a day eating? I realize lobster takes a bit to get the meat out of it, maybe try something less laborious. Talking to friends/family on your phone for hours a day? Maybe curb that a bit. Still getting in 7 hours of sleep on top of all of this? Lucky you. How does anyone sympathize with this? I am a student. I am a teacher.

  • vey bewildering commodity....education

  • FAKE! Students spend 23 and a half hours protesting.

  • This is fucking retarded. who the fuck cares.

  • Life is half luck half skill half work....something doesnt add up

  • FANTASTIC VIDEO!

  • wow tht sucks imagen studying something for so long and so hard then when u graduate there is no jobs for u,all tht money u wasted on books ,time u wasted on learning and it just becomes uselss all thtyears of studying?then its better if u just get a job without going inot uni or college and live life..

  • Fuck world leaders, goverments, capitalism, and all the rest of it.

  • As a college student myself who despises work in all of its forms, I somewhat agree with the video's message, since I can't remember the last time I legitimately learned something in a classroom outside of the key words needed to pass the next test. The SUPER SERIOUS OUR CHILDREN ARE SUFFERING tone, though, I could do without. Man do these fuckers know how to whine. Counting a day as 26 hours when only three of them are in class (which are FB'd through)? Should I call the waahmbulance for you?

  • Thumbs up if you searched for "A

  • professors seem to lack this concept called "theory of mind" - they have their views and they think everyone will have the same views as them. I had to take a test in college and it has go along with the views of the professor, even if I disagree. He needs to think outside the box and understand what the other person is thinking.

  • The K-12 public education system in Canada is presently incapable of significant change due to heavily entrenched bureaucracies. Bureaucrats sacrifice our children's education and future for their comfort. #edu #edu20 #gov20

  • Hi Very nice video, way of explanation is good

  • I agree and have experienced many aspects of this video, as a college student myself (paying exorbitant prices for books you barely touch, and wondering how any of this is useful), but I agree, many of these 'issues'-- the students create for themselves. You could get more out of class by actually paying attention and not going on FB (what a concept!!) and not feeling a need to text etc. College isn't easy, and shouldn't be easy & students need to be mature about it/ grow up/ take it seriously.

  • awesome

  • Too bad all of those statistics are irrelevant today...

  • Great video just wish they had used a tripod

  • brilliant

  • Compare millions of textbooks on textbooksprices . com

  • bunu izleyen 4 milyon kusur insanın yarısı Bilkentli degilse adam degilim :D

  • Knowledge is power

  • It's more visible than ever before, that everything in this world is shaken in all aspects of our world and daily life: In society, politics, economy, religion, nature, education, moral.

You can watch wherever you want...

We have to saddened wordly, to be consoled from heaven; to prepare our hearts for the coming lord and saviour jesus christ, who is the living god.

When everything is broken down in your life, don't forget, that HE is still there!

  • They forget 9gaging !

  • @stenwu this was 5 years ago new candy-ass

such cancer never existed back then lol XD

  • I think I see the point but in reality, if you want to get more out of it, don't bring your damn laptop to class... why so complicated? It's a privilege to be able to attend University, I felt that privilege every time I sat in a lecture or lab. Grow up a bit maybe?

  • THIS is why I am an information/instructional technologist that specializes in sustainability in education... I am apart of the change that will help improve the debit-heavy constrains of the old teaching ideologies of education....

  • Again still one of my favorite Videos!

    God Bless

  • I think that its sad that people pay for class but sometimes never come, or sit through class on a social network site the whole time and don't pay attention to what the professor is teaching.

  • 7 hours of sleep? I wish. I average 5. Though that might just be because I'm a 3rd year engineering student...

  • It, the stuff is boring. I hate One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and my Spanish class is an easy A, but you don't see me not doing the assignments!

  • What are students doing face booking in class? I get

  • Interesting concept. But are there no students of color at that university?

  • @sgsilver I go to K-State. Yes, the campus is very diverse with a large number of foreign exchange students from Asia.

  • @saladfingers2057 Thanks for your reply. If that is the case, then I wonder why there appeared to be no students of color in the video.

  • @sgsilver as you notices this video was rcd in a particular location which if you research doesn't have a massive ethic diversification ... has nothing to do with they weren't invited.. it's like going to Taco Bell and asking why they don't serve pizza...

  • As much as i thoroughly agree that the way academia is sucks, as it does utterly,. I too study anthropology. May I ask you though, what are you doing 'facebooking' through your classes? get a grip. how spoiled or arrogant can you be not to even try to listen because you deem somehting too boring for you, to do something you recognize as time-wasting instead. boohoo

  • Celtichero is spouting BULLSHIT. And he needs to STOP capitalizing every WORD for EMPHASIS.

  • At first it was tough and complicated to do anything, but for people at those times it was considered normal, ofcourse they'd want to make things simpler and easier, so they tried to do it. So it has come to this point where technologies are making life even more easier - I don't mind that, but people ar becoming more and more closed minded and are oversimplifying things - that leads to us becoming pawns of the powerthirsty openminded people.

    If these boards could talk.

    what would they say?

  • FANTASTIC VIDEO! I am a Retired TEACHER not an Educator! What is going on in our schools today borders on "Child Abuse". Students are not taught to THINK they are taught to THINK LIKE THE EDUCATOR! This is not TEACHING it is INDOCTRINATION! Schools have lost all sense of Mission and Perspective! They are trying to prepare students for a WORLD that doesn't EXIST anymore! Students WANT to Learn, They Want to Think! Schools are Letting them down and destroying HOPE!

    God Bless our STUDENTS!

  • @celtichero9

Students can't be spoon fed everything as you're suggesting. Most universities do encourage creative thinking. It's not the school, it's what you make of it. Schools can only do so much. The root of the problem is *most* Americans are lazy fucking shit bags.

  • @jumb0mumb0 TRUE... it is also because we allowed ourselves to be sucked into the hyper of an over structured educational system at the most pivotal moments of our lives (in general - I discount those who bust their asses to get sh|t done.) SCHOOL is what you make of it... for sure!!!

  • @celtichero9 As a student, I agree completely. I have tried to explain this to my "teachers", but few seem to care. All they seem to care about is grant money for their own research. Somehow, the program still has a great reputation, but that comes only from all the proud alums in the area. It's a broken system, and sadly, no one seems to care.

  • @halfcanadian I Care! If you and your Friends wouyld Subscribe to my Site together we cna CHANGE this! it doesn't have to be this way! You guys (The Students) Are what school are ALL ABOUT! Help me Help you! God Bless

  • We learn to improve ourselves.

  • lol... or become and engineer no more problems

  • Great Video :) .Online learning resources is very beneficial to students. They can learn on a HTC smartphone or computer at any time. They can gain a knowledge of a subject in their own time. This will support them in their learning process to help them acieve their goals. This is the future of technology.

  • Should add that the majority of people taking their majors for what they will do for the rest of their working lives, hate their majors but are only taking it because its the only way to make a decent living. My first major was history, which i loved, but i had to go back after i graduated and get another one in business and economics, which i loathed, but it was the only way to get work..now i make just enough to pay the student loans, and i hate my job, which ruined my social live

  • This video as brilliant! Simple, capitavating and very clear on what the msg is! I am a student myself - in Norway - and this perfectly fits the impression I have of the student here aswell:)

  • I dunno who said it but you learn more from your students then you learn from yourself

  • such a nice a video thanks for sharing those msg..great upload

  • Makes you really think about the future of education

  • And the point is....? young people spend more time socializing than working, are basically unmotivated and effete.

  • Student should value their teachers, because teachers help us to become better.

  • Great video. Really like that Marshall McLuhan quote, too.

  • People become teachers to help people. When you help someone learn you help them grow.

  • vision of students 10 yrs ago. i would like to see that too. and than compare

  • @JSTpacek you meant "and THEN compare"

  • there was a person maybe someone knows who said this. "Everyday I read and learn and change my mind about things." We need to learn to come up with new ideas and see the world in a different way

  • nice show

  • As a student we learn from our teachers. As a teacher we learn from our students.

  • Where's the Communist flags?

  • @kramnodd9 "where are the communists flags" and the communist does not capitalized

  • @denisrenelara

    *is not capitalized.

  • @kramnodd9 I forgot "get"

  • @denisrenelara

Still though, perhaps you should work on your own grammar before correcting others', hm?

  • @denisrenelara

(And it is capitalized, by the way).

  • It takes deep Desire to learn... to fulfill a Dream... without the dream or the desire, ...a student will simply fill a chair and pass the time until it's beer-30 ... passing time ...passing time ....passing time. The lucky ones have a dream... whether they go to school and absorb the knowledge, ..or fulfill their dream learning on the job. To the parents and teachers who encourage a student to find his or her dream and fulfill it are today's real-life heroes... I say, Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!

  • @CheckersnPogo You're right on point there my friend. We can all be that hero every single day, to a stranger on our commute home or a close member of our family, again every single day. Just asking people what their dreams are can be enough, even if it's to get them really aware and present to not having or creating dreams. From there, they can start to create and at least live with the possibility that they can have their dreams come true.

  • Great video ... really interesting ... understand your students then you'll teach them better. Thanks

  • FRESH START STRATEGIES BROUGHT ME HERE

  • name of the song? ino the artist is try^d but i cant find a youtube link, and whoever posts aswer make sure its "liked up" so all can see cause i can imagine im not the first to ask lol

  • @clingaa Idiot :p if you watch till the end of the vid the album cover is shown. :) Pay attention.

  • @Xanilty911 yes i knew the album, not the specific song. thanks anyways.

and the song is called waltz into the moonlight if you just type tryad waltz it will come up though.

  • @Xanilty911 "Idiot".

  • I am a teacher and caught a student getting instant messages on my class, so I asked her, does that i-phone have an aircraft mode?, cause if I hear it beep, ring or buzz........its going out the window.

  • Technology makes more problems than it solves. Then more innovations are developed to fix those problems....

  • im at my first year at college, im suprised to see that a large ammount of people seem as if they don't care about their education and would prefer to just drink alcohol as much as possible

  • I agree a lot with the idea of integrating more technology. I have friends in a bio class who never understand the readings until I explain it out by drawing pictures or send them a YouTube video with the processes. My generation is more visual, you can't just stand there at your podium or chalkboard and write 3 main topics and lecture the whole time anymore. Studies consistently show that style leads to student apathy. If you want me to care, do something that'll draw me in or quit whining.

  • My classroom has only a chalkboard and my professor writes on it using less than an inch of chalk.

  • Did anyone else feel like theyre getting kicked in the balls?

  • 2:48 Did that guy just fall asleep?

  • videos like these make me weep for my generation. There's two wars going on and all sorts of other problems that they acknowledge in the video but they dont have enough time to study because they're too busy watching jersey shore and looking at facebook profiles. its time to stop whining and start doing something about it. OR we can just keep doing what were doing and hope things will just change, because mommy and daddy will probably take care of it for us anyways right?

  • I am in EDM 310 at the USA and as a current student I relate totally to the views on this video. I think things definitely need to change. As a future teacher I will do my best to incorporate hands on methods that will help my students learn. The traditional method it exactly that traditional, but it is time for our classes to incorporate more technology and fun ways to learn. It will be easier to remember these things taught versus cramming and remembering long enough to put it on a test.

  • I'm a current student in college, and my teacher showed us this video today in English 102. It's sad as of how much of this content I can relate to.

  • That said, I'm studying *computer* science...

  • 3 and 1/2 hours online...

    I'm online 24 hours a day...

Course I'm counting my phone there... assume we just count sitting at the computer would bring it down to more like 12 hours a day...

  • Those replies are what I see each and every day. Although you hardly ever see a chalkboard in any classroom. Always a screen with a powerpoint. Thankfully, with technology most professors have adapted to using it in the classroom (or auditorium as I should say). But I really think the way colleges are set up is terrible. I hate classrooms of 247-300+ people; it's the worst learning environment. Thank god I'm a senior and my classes have 20 people.

  • See the David Icke videos in my favorites to understand the deeper meaning of all this.

    Vote this up.

    Peace

  • I am the first person to tell you that we are changing as a culture when it comes to the impact of technology. But, college students sometimes have become so spoiled with the ease of collecting information, they forget the reason they are there. Sometimes hard work is the only way to become successful. Everyone's goal today is to make the most money doing the least amount of work. Convenience has become our greatest motivation and our greatest downfall!

  • @ojaymoney "most money doing the least amount of work" but thats is the model for everything! get the most out of the least.

  • @ojaymoney "The more things change, the more the stay the same."

  • Thouh this video shows students and what they are dealing with, have you wonder what about the teachers? Teachers have been in our situations before, they were once students also. A student goes to college to get a education, to learn. Not to facebook, twitter, skip class, or not do work. If that is all they do then why pay to get a education, move over and let someone who wants to get a education take your spot.

  • a really nice watch. thanks for doing that!

  • This video was really though provoking. It mainly shows the side of just hte students and how they feel but the teachers I'm sure feel just the same way. The teachers don't want to have to give that much homework, or want their students to buy the $450 dollar book to never open it. Sure, college students most likely have a job as well and being in school, but that's what they are there for - to get an education. If they are going to complain about it, why are they there? Amazing video!!

  • Sigh...Every generation thinks its situation is so different from the ones before, but those differences are superficial. In the 60's college students demanded "relevance." What did they do with it? Make world is a better place? Sure, technology changes; the best teachers change with it. what we really need to know is how to think clearly, flexibly, critically and address WHATEVER situation presents. Don't whine. Prioritize. Simplify. Read the good stuff. THINK! The best students always do.

  • Cry me a river! How about a solution for a change?

  • This video is so true. None of my teachers even use blackboards of any kind. They all use powerpoints.

  • I found the music kinda terrifying.

  • @yesegg2009

I told this to someone, they thought i was crazy

anyways, this is a very interesting video

  • does anyone know the name of this song? it's driving me crazy.

  • my teacher showed me this in class :)

  • @tdanielran mine too :),and im glad i saw it

  • totally true!

  • Im not in college yet but my gt history class has most of the assignments on an ipad or smart pad are first project is a video(dort of like this) so yeah.....ur video is awesome

  • Being in class should be a students full time job, not a passing hobby. Yes, expensive textbooks continue to be a bane and really needs to be corrected but the apathy of the typical undergrad is more the problem on campuses today. Yes, times change and we all need to adapt but students need to take responsibility for and ownership of that change. Those "26.5" hours in a day didn't even mention partying or Black Ops. Turn off your cell in class. Do the requisite reading. The cream WILL rise.

  • @sbcbonds You want to pay for it then. I know friends that have to work two jobs outside of class to pay for school. This is on top of doing classwork, attending classes, and trying to do extra curricular activities. This is more work then a student did twenty years ago. My grandma said that my grandpa twenty five years ago went to college and got a degree while working a full time job. You cannot get straight A's while working full time in this society.

  • Comment removed

  • @sbcbonds LONG LIVE THE CREAM ALSO SCHOOL SUCKS BALLS

  • The class size statistics and instructor familiarity are because this comes from a large school rather than a small college. Don't want huge classes and want to know your instructors? Go to a SMALL college.

  • @FirriTriah not possible for everyone, and smaller colleges offer less subjects

  • @Rosehawka Different small colleges specialize in different subjects. Do your research and you may find one that is appropriate for you. Some are even relatively cheap. People go to state schools for undergraduate education often by default. People assume that because their logos are easy to find, they must be good. Large research universities aren't usually good places for undergraduates, unless you are very self reliant and motivated.

  • @FirriTriah maybe its different in America, but in Australia, there aren't really that many universities, the smaller ones that you are likely to go to are the regional campuses, which would probably specialise in certain subjects, but overall it depends on what course you want to do, what score you get and where you can actually physically go.

  • Sad but true

  • thanks so much =]

  • Very interesting statistics brought up . . . great for talking points about why students are in college. I still remember that attending college is a privilege, not a right.

  • @Final727 maybe it is a privilege, but maybe our lifestyles have changed and universities/colleges are simply not keeping up. we still want to be students, but the system just doesn't cater for what we need... or something.

  • Agree - I think it's similar to most of all students around the globe. Sad but true.

  • So, does this mean I shouldn't go to college?

  • then dont go to college, atleast a big one...

  • I think this is the vision of the students Today

  • Really a great vision

  • excellent work if some one notice the problem

  • Excellent work.Great Video!!!

  • A brilliant short video about student engagement and learning. Thank you!

    Lysandra Stuart

  • "...in today's world of education, a great percentage of the information given to students as facts, whatever grade, are purely theory. STUDENTS! Keep your mind open and question the information! Ask yourself "am I learning, or simply being taught how to learn", Good luck my friends.

  • Great Viddeo!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • this video is true alot pressure is put on students these days

  • @Jaedajester - I think there has always been a lot of pressure. Perhaps the difference with the past is that many of us were taught to shut up and keep going. At least today students have rights. In my days, faculty tiranny was a fact of academic life.

  • Yeah, Those are student dream, hope and what are they doing today.

  • Don't forget Universities and schools that won't protect their students from security beatings, and use of animal labs

  • THIS IS BRILLIANT STUFF!! Goes hand-in-hand with the effort of Sir Ken Robinson that you can find in YouTube as well.. This is EXACTLY the reason why we should do revolution to education or simply changing education paradigm.

  • @yosefadjibaskoro

NOW the question is how to delivered this video and this genius ideas to those outside Gen Y that naturally rarely surf in the internet?

  • Un profesor debe ser un seductor. Si lo que te explican en una clase lo puedes aprender leyéndote un PDF, no vuelvas. El futuro es de los frikis!!

  • For everyone thinking about college, you will be a slave to the banks if you are not privileged to pay for it, it is NOT worth it, and there are other ways around it. You can get into two year programs that need workers right now like respiratory therapists and physical therapy technicians and you will still remain in middle class standing when you get a job. On the other hand, you could attend a university and end up in the same place, but as a slave to the new world order crooks.

  • Wawow what a students

  • heyyy

some looong ass comments i`m to lazy to read -.-

  • Some of these replies are amazing. I think those of us in college have the best idea of where the problem lies. Those in the older generations can just look at the way the state of the world today to see how well their theories on education and modern life in general are working out.

  • @thepliosar1 yes and the biggest disaster the older generation can look at is their own progeny.

  • @karllieb Do you not see that the progeny of the older generation is a direct result of the older generations? We grew up in the world you created, bub.

  • @thepliosar1 So who was worse Dr. Frankenstein...or his monster? You paint with a very broad brush. The culture of today's youth is also a direct result of technology, consumer culture, mass media, broken families and the individual will of those that make choices within it.,etc. As an individual I certainly didn't do much to create this "world." Please enlighten me then. Where does the problem lie?

  • @karllieb It is a broad problem. I think the society we have today in the USA is very close to being broken. I don't like to blame the older generation for this, but likewise, you can't blame the younger generation. Kids are products of society, and it is inaccurate to suggest that kids are at fault for being the way they are.

  • Hmmmm, what is the song used in this?

  • @KChapman333 It sounds like Album Leaf, can't say for sure though. I'm curious too.

  • great, i cant believe what some of the other people here are posting.

  • this is called having no motivation

  • What I have learned in this video? Here >> Most of the Students will have a debt after graduation, which is very true due to lack of money, but for me poverty is not a reason for you to stop learning. Just always remember that ''Every Problem has a solution '' so you must be positive in life. << Thanks for this great and meaningful video :D <3

  • @TiSGENS14 This video is not saying "screw college," or anything like that. It's just the mentality of many students when they sit behind a desk. And as they realize none of these things are gonna help them or anyone else, they have no choice but to face debt and joblessness in the future to come. Such uncertainty, of course, stresses everyone out. I don't know anyone who doesn't even get phased at the very least.
