@XecuttioneR They might not because of the individual bullet aerodynamics and how much grain is in each cartridge and how the barrel may wear down or change shape due to extreme heat (expanding the size of the bore) causing it to loose accuracy or slightly change where each bullet impacts. So even if the machine gun didn't move at all the bullets would most likely not all impact the same spot.

@XecuttioneR same thing because the aerodynamics and weight of each projectile would be a little different from the last round and the amount of grain (gunpowder) and how it explodes in cartridge would vary slightly. So if you take away the heat the movement of the barrel you would still have some differences because of each individual round. but if all the bullets where the same and there was no movement and no other variables theoretically you could but the chances for that are extremely small

You can melt the barrel into the receiver, I saw it happen several times when I was in the military. Granted, they weren't m60's but its definitely possible to destroy the weapon by doing this. Having a tracer round cook off in the barrel is also a surefire way to damage the receiver and your face.

When I was in the USMC the only times I ever got to fire that many rounds would be at the end of a day of training when we would be heading back to base. The Lt or C.O. did not or could not return the ammo unused, so we would have two gunners fire it off into the beautiful desert. We buried the leftovers in the sand. Now I'm thinking that someone came along later to take the ammo for themselves. This guy just fired $1500+ of ammo into the dirt without a comment! Do you think he paid for it?

@LtActionCam When you perform a cyclic rate of fire (constant fire - no trigger release), the barrel will over heat and glow (like in the video), at this point it will begin to warp and melt until it is WHITE hot. It's why we change out barrels after X amount of rounds.
