  • you dingaling

  • YOU DINGALING

  • LOL No you digga ling

  • lol they didn't get along that well back then XD

  • I saw that one coming from a mile away.

  • Big ups to fans of the appliance war sketch!!! One of the combatants was the "phonograph." Today there are adults who don't know what that word means.

"Dingaling" was a 60's and 70's insult. It occurs in "Sing!" from the 1975 musical "A Chorus Line," regarding a female auditioner who can't sing.

  • As insults go, "dingaling" is rather small potatoes.

  • This sends a good message to kids but they sound a little different from the ones from the 1980's

  • Ernie surely did a good job at demonstrating BEFORE and AFTER with Bert, and therefore Bert understood the whole thing. At the end, Ernie said he wasn't hungry now. So Bert sort of sighed, and Ernie asked him if he wanted a cookie which was good.

  • on the skit when ernie was talking to an elephant on a banana him and bert were young but now in this one with before and after with the cokies they are old men its like that isnt it?

  • ernie is so cunning...

  • The scenes with the puppets were fun to watch, but they always went back to those boring old cartoon shorts after and it was really annoying. I spent so much time waiting when I was little for those to be over so they can get back to the puppet guys I liked.

  • What's so bad about "dingaling"? Is it an American thing?

  • I guess it could be construed as, um, a nickname for a phallus.

  • There was that stupid song, drove me nuts.

  • Did anyone see at the end how Ernie offers Bert a cookie wITHOUT lifting up the cover?

  • I think that may be the point. Or maybe Ernie is a dingaling after all. O_0

  • did bert just call ernie a dingaling lol lol priceless now i know were i picked that word up from lol lol

  • Bert needs to comb his hair; he looks like a meth addict

  • Wow, Ernie should be an auctioneer. And did anyone notice their over abundant supply of lighting in the background? You can never have to many lamps on top of other lamps.

  • (Likely because they lived in a basement apartment.)

And, yes, the "appliance war" sketch was a classic! Their electrical system was not up to handling a record player, radio, blender and whatever else at one time...

  • "No You Ding-a-Ling!"

  • Notice how Ernie was keeping track, "After I lift the cover, then I can have the FOURTH cookie!" and it was, too!

  • "No, you ding-a-ling!"

That's the one line that I remember to this day, even though I only saw this skit one time. (And I was born in 1984!)

  • bert got pwned

  • also there is some suggestive selling for oreo cookies there.. mmm product placement :P

  • heh. bert called ernie a ding-a-ling.

  • These guys almost remind me of Adam and Jamie from Mythbusters. I haven't watched Bert and Ernie in years. Nostolgia..... hmmmm

  • "Okay, Bert Ill come right along right after I have a cuple of these cookies"

    Love that Cute Line.

Also pause it at 00:07 and 00:04 and look at Ernie's face...It's sooooooooo cute and priceless!

  • you dinaling!!

  • Bert looks like a naner back then!

  • BERTS HAVING A BAD HAIR DAY

  • I'm hungry for cookies now.

Haven't seen this in 30 years.

  • For crying out loud Bert, ever hear of a comb?

  • Ernie is brillant!! he knows exactly what he is doing, and its fricken hilarious to see him have Bert wrapped around his little finger LOL - THEY RULE forever!!!

  • ha ha poor Bert and yet he would never ever leave Ernie heh heh I always thought they were brothers

  • funy very funy

  • "NO YOU DING-A-LING" XD

  • This is for sure one of the oldest Bert & Ernie sketches that I can remember.

  • Does anyone have the infamous 'Appliance War' sketch?

  • What happened to Berts hair? So messy.... Did he just get out of bed?

  • Ernie: I'm not so hungry now bert

    *Cheesy music*

    Bert : X_X

Ernie : want a cookie Bert

    PEERISSSELESSS

  • This is so0o0o0o cute! :]

I think they made a new version of this with cookie monster and elmo, but this one is cuter!!! :]

  • Well, even if there is a version of this clip starring Elmo and Cookie Monster, it could NEVER be nearly as tasty as the original!

  • The pre-PC Sesame Street rocked!!! I show these to my little nieces and nephews and they love them

  • Way to go!

  • bert is not very smart.

  • They both look like they need to comb their hair.

  • True! And they look very ugly.

  • Ernie playing innocently puzzled but really using the situation to his advantage - as usual. This is one time when I saw the ending coming.

  • I'm so glad someone in tv land had the smarts to bring Sesame Street to British television, at least when I was growing up anyway

  • lol. what were they teaching us!

  • I think the lesson here is the importance of before and after.

  • it was funny when bert called ernie a dingaling!

  • What does "dingaling" mean? When I searched it in Wikipedia, it redirected me to "penis" oO

  • It's kind of a lighter version of idiot, along the same lines as calling someone a knucklehead.

  • Chuck Berry did a song about it.

  • Chuck Berry did more to vulgarized the word than most admit.

  • Although the song never explicitly makes the connection. It "could" be just a song about his favourite toy (nudge nudge say no more).

  • All of sudden I have a craving for cream filled cookies.

  • ha ha ha ha ha .

    Really funny

  • "You want a cookie, Bert?"

  • That's the best part! The tag line at the end always made it for me!

  • ha ha

  • Ernie is so stupid! He needs to go to weight watcher. He's even worse than the usual cookie monster too.

  • "Oh sure Bert... I'm not so sure."

  • Jim Henson's Ernie voice in the first season had that Ed Norton ring to it.

  • "Im not quite sure I understand, Bert. Lets try again" tee hee

  • LOL "No you ding-a-ling"

  • :50 I love the subtlety of Bert checking his watch. Funny!

  • i haven't seen this in years! :D i remember every time i saw this skit i was hungry for cookies. :D

  • LOLOLOLOL!!! HE SAID DINGALING!!!

  • It's amazing how Jim Henson and Frank Oz can give Bert and Ernie so much expression and life from rather static hand puppets. True genius!

  • Bert looks like he has not bathed in a while : )

  • Bert looks really funny on this sketch

  • Yeah, I remember seeing this sketch on a 90's episode of Sesame Street, and Bert's calling Ernie a ding-a-ling stuck with me forever! I still remember it! Thanks for bringing back memories!

  • Those cookies makes me hungry for cream filled COOKIES!

  • They look like Oreos to me.

  • Milks favorite Cookie.

  • This was back when people had freedom on t.v.,till the 90's of course when everything was P.C. this and P.C. that,honestly,P.C. is almost as worse as Viacom.

  • lol

  • HAHAHA! You Ding-a-ling! ROFL.

  • Ernie not hungry anymore should have been good news to Bert. Now he can have Ernie's dinner portion too. (But maybe they were having something like fish and green beans. If it was pizza Ernie would have raced to the dinner table, as well as attempted to eat Bert's slices too).

  • I believe I saw this once when I was young. It confused me, because I wondered if Bert was implying that Ernie had not lifted up the cover, or what. Now I've got it. Ernie and Bert are just the best.

  • It's hard to believe Bert put up with Ernie all those years. He must have been so tempted to punch him in the face! LOL

  • the incedental music at the end of these, bert and ernrie episodes are funny as hell.

  • yeah, wah wah wah wah wahhhhhhh! i love that end music in the E&B skits. :D

  • My GOD that is old!

  • Ernie is going to act like he don't know the before and after, so he will get more samples of the cookies until he has ruined his supper; I decided this would be the case before I saw the show and I was right, I can read Ernie like a book although I am not sure if it's intentional or accidental, but it is special to me to watch this one, as always is the case.

  • One of the best ones. Also one of the very first ones I think. Where did you find this? Can you find the one where Bert tries to get Ernie to go to the store for a paper? But Ernie takes forever to get ready and eventually refuses because he can find any gum? He needed gum in case on the way to the store, he was to meet a bear...he explained that he would give the bear some gum and then the bear would be so busy chewing the gum that it wouldn't be able to bite him.

  • Yes, that was indeed a hilarious sketch. Somebody really needs to post that.

  • Ya' ding-a-ling! lol

Too bad Bert doesn't call Ernie a ding-a-ling anymore.

  • I saw this one as a kid.

  • Great stuff!!!! Keep em comin'!!!

  • LOL!Not only does this skit teach children about before and after-it also teaches them how to sneak cookies from their parents-right under their noses!

  • I think we all learned that, by biting into a cookie, THEN asking if we could have one. LOL

  • Delicious !

  • Bert was having a bad hair day.

  • They both were. Jesus!

  • Before I commented on this, I gave you five stars. After I watched it, I saved a copy to my PC. :-)

  • Hey how do you do that? How do you save a video from the 'Tube to your own PC?

  • I remembered that I pulled that on my brother when i was young. it backfired.LOL

  • Stuff like this wouldn't even remotely fly now. Bert calling Ernie a dingaling? Ernie eating FOUR cokkies before dinner? Oh no, what message are we sending our children lol
