Ernie surely did a good job at demonstrating BEFORE and AFTER with Bert, and therefore Bert understood the whole thing. At the end, Ernie said he wasn't hungry now. So Bert sort of sighed, and Ernie asked him if he wanted a cookie which was good.
on the skit when ernie was talking to an elephant on a banana him and bert were young but now in this one with before and after with the cokies they are old men its like that isnt it?
The scenes with the puppets were fun to watch, but they always went back to those boring old cartoon shorts after and it was really annoying. I spent so much time waiting when I was little for those to be over so they can get back to the puppet guys I liked.
Wow, Ernie should be an auctioneer. And did anyone notice their over abundant supply of lighting in the background? You can never have to many lamps on top of other lamps.
(Likely because they lived in a basement apartment.)
And, yes, the "appliance war" sketch was a classic! Their electrical system was not up to handling a record player, radio, blender and whatever else at one time...
Ernie is brillant!! he knows exactly what he is doing, and its fricken hilarious to see him have Bert wrapped around his little finger LOL - THEY RULE forever!!!
Yeah, I remember seeing this sketch on a 90's episode of Sesame Street, and Bert's calling Ernie a ding-a-ling stuck with me forever! I still remember it! Thanks for bringing back memories!
This was back when people had freedom on t.v.,till the 90's of course when everything was P.C. this and P.C. that,honestly,P.C. is almost as worse as Viacom.
Ernie not hungry anymore should have been good news to Bert. Now he can have Ernie's dinner portion too. (But maybe they were having something like fish and green beans. If it was pizza Ernie would have raced to the dinner table, as well as attempted to eat Bert's slices too).
I believe I saw this once when I was young. It confused me, because I wondered if Bert was implying that Ernie had not lifted up the cover, or what. Now I've got it. Ernie and Bert are just the best.
Ernie is going to act like he don't know the before and after, so he will get more samples of the cookies until he has ruined his supper; I decided this would be the case before I saw the show and I was right, I can read Ernie like a book although I am not sure if it's intentional or accidental, but it is special to me to watch this one, as always is the case.
One of the best ones. Also one of the very first ones I think. Where did you find this? Can you find the one where Bert tries to get Ernie to go to the store for a paper? But Ernie takes forever to get ready and eventually refuses because he can find any gum? He needed gum in case on the way to the store, he was to meet a bear...he explained that he would give the bear some gum and then the bear would be so busy chewing the gum that it wouldn't be able to bite him.
LOL!Not only does this skit teach children about before and after-it also teaches them how to sneak cookies from their parents-right under their noses!
Stuff like this wouldn't even remotely fly now. Bert calling Ernie a dingaling? Ernie eating FOUR cokkies before dinner? Oh no, what message are we sending our children lol

Big ups to fans of the appliance war sketch!!! One of the combatants was the "phonograph." Today there are adults who don't know what that word means.
"Dingaling" was a 60's and 70's insult. It occurs in "Sing!" from the 1975 musical "A Chorus Line," regarding a female auditioner who can't sing.
stuey123usa 2 years ago 2
As insults go, "dingaling" is rather small potatoes.
PandaMishima 2 years ago 5
This sends a good message to kids but they sound a little different from the ones from the 1980's

What's so bad about "dingaling"? Is it an American thing?

I guess it could be construed as, um, a nickname for a phallus.

Chuck Berry did a song about it.

Chuck Berry did more to vulgarized the word than most admit.

Although the song never explicitly makes the connection. It "could" be just a song about his favourite toy (nudge nudge say no more).
