Paul supported cop killer Mumba Abu Jamal aka: Wesley Cook and I will not buy any more of his wine or salad dressing. To bad he did not think as much about the widow and family of murdered police officer Danny Faulker and throw them a few crumbs of his huge wealth.
@wilcarr1 1) Whether or not Mumba Abu Jamal was guilty is still up for debate. I know little about this case but I would expect Newman supported him because he either believed him to be innocent or didn't support the death penalty.
2) Many people support Jamal, Amnesty International amongst them.
3) Paul Newman has been dead several years, even if you did buy his salad dressing it wouldn't make much difference.

@rayjr62 - I agree but You cannot fail to see especially in his early work a noticeable resemblance in some of his gestures, mannerisms, and speaking cadences to Jack. I was not Dissing Bruce nor did I coin that phrase. I heard it somewhere twenty years ago.
@RichardElden : I think Newman was an almost perfect choice because the character, especially in the book, is a very disturbed and not too lovable anti-hero guilty of rape, larceny, and more while fighting in Europe. Newman's charm takes the edge off of what would be an otherwise shady character and allows audiences to warm to him. I can see McQueen as a good 2nd choice though.
@Nemesis861965 i realize that, i was suggesting that james dean may have been able to play the character of luke in a way that was truer to the book.darker, more sinister than paul played it.but why mess with near perfection? or even attempt to speculate because some know it all might come along and try to show you up for having the audacity to simply speculate
@nothingbutaFENDER : No need to get testy. We’ve never met, therefore I don’t know what you know or don’t know. I didn’t even think of Dean. Yes, I suppose that had he lived he may have been a good choice; although Newman and McQueen would have been hard to beat.
if you dont like cool hand luke then your one of two things....too young to understand it....or to stupid ....in dirtyfknmouths case hes just a young stupid jerk that will learn soon enough cancer is no laughing matter for any one
@RichardElden and a troll who obviously doesn't get the point of the movie at all. Everybody loves it, but they're all wrong. Only YOU see the truth about this movie. Good job.
@MrDuMeMi I agree, It's about loss. We all ride this rock, lose loved ones and die. Religion is based upon faith. No one knows why we are here yet, it seems everyone has an opinion. To leave a comment, lib or conserv bias always speaks more about the author not about the subject.
this song is a classic regardless if no one knows who the original writer is. but if u look up the old lyrics to this songs its amazing and you its ment to be played slow. not to be played fast as hell and talk about sex and drugs... not that those are some of my favorite things :)
This is what I love about YT. I seriously am on here ten times more than FB. Everything I want to see, I can. I just thought about this scene, and here we go. I love you, YouTube.
Although I am not a Catholic, I am a christian, and I love this tender moment from the movie"Cool Hand Luke". Paul Newman was one of the best actors of all time : )
Amazing acting! All the little pauses he puts in because Luke is trying to remember the words while he has a million other things running through his mind and emotions welling up. Just outstanding acting.
clean? what about the part where the car wash chick presses her tits against the windshield, they'r eye banging her the whole time. don't get me wrong absolutely love the movie
I'd give a million bucks to find out what Paul was thinking about that made him cry - when he filmed this scene - He had to have used some part of his personal past to get the deep emoption going
I watched this movie in english class today, this part made me cry. Back in the old days people like this were good singers without the help of auto-tune.
Unprecedented - King God Creator has summoned world leaders in charge of the people on my land. I converse with my son 3in1of2 Loyal Noble Faithful Servants Frederick & Peter of Lancaster UK only & no other living or dead. For what is to be completed & done regarding my sphere. I will take this to the people by whatever means my son chooses.
@moctor3 I like cool hand Luke.If others like it that must mean we have that in common=I like people that I share common interest with.So I want to warn my common man of the down falls of putting faith in idols.A plastic jesus/mary is an idol.lol duh.
@CSUTAMTAM So, if Jesus was alive today and was executed. I guess you'd be wearing a gold electric chair around your neck.Crucifixion is the old way of execution.
"And the winner is for best actor..." You can pick many scenes, but the moment at 1:10 is the incredible. Unfortunately, Newman did not win the award that year for best actor. What were they thinking?
God I love this movie...and i'm a 'youngster" ha...born in 1984....it's funny because i showed my friend this movie a couple years ago and he loved it and he was telling me a couple months later...talking about his work mates at home depot surprised that he even knew this movie...ha...
@BarstoolBlues33 Although I don't consider myself too old, I'm definitely older than you, and I'm happy to hear that some younger people still appreciate the classics. Although technology allows hollywood to do anything nowadays, the oldies are irreplaceable....
@jonesbones638 Haven't you seen the movie? He just found out his mother died and he can't attend the funeral. I'm pretty sure you cry too when people you love die.
@RoseBudisaSLED 'Cause often a 15 year old girls' favourite film is Mean Girls... or something leaning that way. Suggesting that a film about prisoners made in '67 would have to be pretty stunning in whatever way.
The significance of this is it is probaby the only song Cool Hand Luke knew that had anything that was slightly religious. The irony is it is irreverent, but he feels he should play something in the memory of his mother. Very thought provoking if you look underneath the surface.
and the opening scene of luke cutting the tops off the parking meters scared my ma cos he looked just like my drunken father who we'd just escaped from.
my mum took me to this movie when i was 9 and there were vietnam r&r soldiers there and when they played 'god save the queen' (in NZ) the soldiers stood up and i said 'what are they standing up for theyre yanx' and ma said 'ssshhhh, theyre just being polite' - and me and my brother crept up behind them and stole their caps.
This movie is a work of brilliance! An all star cast with a bulletproof script. Not one for the those that get cheap kicks of an overdose of CGI and over the top action.
it may not be a masterpiece, but it's about the only movie I've ever watched for four days in a row; couldn't get enough of it. . . the abuse ole Luke took was incredible in light of his minor crimes.
@ALLIED7621; Break it down with me, and look at it this way - a decorated war veteran is jailed for smashing parking meters while drunk. Sounds stupid, right? Now, because he's been free his entire life, Luke rebels against the guards in even the smallest ways. He constantly tries to escape, and ultimately dies for freedom. He had maybe two years left in the pen, but he wouldn't accept being locked up. He died over parking meters. This movie is a masterpiece because of its message of futility

@BarstoolBlues33 Although I don't consider myself too old, I'm definitely older than you, and I'm happy to hear that some younger people still appreciate the classics. Although technology allows hollywood to do anything nowadays, the oldies are irreplaceable....

Prisons for punishment, not for strumming a banjo while feeling sorry for yourself. Can't do the time, don't do the fucking crime...

@jonesbones638 Haven't you seen the movie? He just found out his mother died and he can't attend the funeral. I'm pretty sure you cry too when people you love die.

It's pretty amazing how Paul Newman can sing AND play AND make himself cry, all at the same time.

@Itsacycle What does your age and gender have to do with how good a movie that is?
RoseBudisaSLED 1 year ago
@RoseBudisaSLED 'Cause often a 15 year old girls' favourite film is Mean Girls... or something leaning that way. Suggesting that a film about prisoners made in '67 would have to be pretty stunning in whatever way.

LEGEND
WHAT ELSE IS THERE TO SAY.
SOUTHWEST778 1 year ago

Watch the movie and learn.

This movie is a work of brilliance! An all star cast with a bulletproof script. Not one for the those that get cheap kicks of an overdose of CGI and over the top action.

Great flick. love it

it may not be a masterpiece, but it's about the only movie I've ever watched for four days in a row; couldn't get enough of it. . . the abuse ole Luke took was incredible in light of his minor crimes.
unclewalt56 1 year ago
I don't wuite understand why this movie is considered to be a masterpeice. Don't get me wrong I liked it just I don't think it's a "masterpeice"
ALLIED7621 1 year ago
@ALLIED7621 NO DISRESPECT BUT I THINK YOU NEED TO WATCH IT AGAIN
SOUTHWEST778 1 year ago
@ALLIED7621; Break it down with me, and look at it this way - a decorated war veteran is jailed for smashing parking meters while drunk. Sounds stupid, right? Now, because he's been free his entire life, Luke rebels against the guards in even the smallest ways. He constantly tries to escape, and ultimately dies for freedom. He had maybe two years left in the pen, but he wouldn't accept being locked up. He died over parking meters. This movie is a masterpiece because of its message of futility
