  • One word... E-x-c-e-l-l-e-n-t

  • whos caring about all the previous comments tryin to argue n belittle each other ..oooh i know more than you type comments..at the end of the day this is a fuckin brilliant song off a brilliant film and i got a tear in my eye too

  • Paul supported cop killer Mumba Abu Jamal aka: Wesley Cook and I will not buy any more of his wine or salad dressing. To bad he did not think as much about the widow and family of murdered police officer Danny Faulker and throw them a few crumbs of his huge wealth.

  • @wilcarr1 1) Whether or not Mumba Abu Jamal was guilty is still up for debate. I know little about this case but I would expect Newman supported him because he either believed him to be innocent or didn't support the death penalty.

    2) Many people support Jamal, Amnesty International amongst them.

    3) Paul Newman has been dead several years, even if you did buy his salad dressing it wouldn't make much difference.

  • Even I, Being a non-religious person, finds beauty and comfort in this song! It's almost absolute perfection!

  • @pickle338 me thinks if you read the words to the song it's actually super blasphemous.

  • I think DivineNucleus is in the Westboro Baptist Church by the sounds of his aimless rantings ;p get a grip on reality you cretin!!

  • @Flatziepoo what you've said about DivineNucleus is not true -- i'm trying to get a grip on realit, there seems to be a great deal of depression & denial.. because of betrayal & invasion, causing a pointless sense of self. Collin could have handled the "funny comments" about planet rings, pullution, rainbows & body/mind relations -- if only they had let him get married to his true chosen true love, but they got in the way & this caused their death.--

  • @Flatziepoo in other words, if those twits who knew about Collin had let Collin do as he pleased on EARTH, they would have survived, but there were many attacks on Collin's life & choices & this caused their death. As if their tamperings with Collin were the very seed of evil--that is to say, being crazy & wild in mind is alright, but the contrabutions to Collin's life made things worse, so, the fall. I mean to say, if they had simply HELPED Collin to enjoy his life, things would be fine....sad?

  • --purify--clairity--truth--complete--

--struck bullseye-- the mark is made right & loyal to Collin--

--now collin is scary because "they" took the virgin mary away from him--

//the proof of man vs proof of orb? All the ship had to say vs all that the ship had to do// who's judgement told you suicide was legal?//your epiphany~to not destroy man's epiphany-- the royal family won it's bet because of Collin's bravery & the failures have no credit for Collin's perfect victory--yaki got the letter--

  • --if you idiots can download every movie ever made in less then five minutes with a canadian internet, then i'm not impressed that you've made some rendered & processed human data/language code intention, & you suppose your nano seed grapher ghost gen flush toy updates are going to prove anything? they haven't & the moral law stood.--//satire in the wrong hands a deadly blade to it's wielder//supposing you're the reason for the face of pan gia//that you would wear outrage as a suit? then?//gonE

  • --The "virgin mary" was FSc & if you idiots had simply let Collin marry his true love, then you would have escaped hell, even though you'd done wrong, those wrong things Collin could have mended, but because the technology ruins swept away your good heart for the father, the punnisher now--!--because of an attack on innocence, true love & communication. Those who invade die -- Collin Wins --

  • @DivineNucleus ....the fuck you talkin about?

  • @TrippyTheShroom --to prevent all evil, the warrning was sent in billions of ways, the warrning = "DO NOT HURT COLLIN thou SHALL DIE" -- & the song "plastic jesus" in the film "Cool hand luke" is one of those warrnings. Unfortunately, anyone who attacks Collin becomes guilty "i-ching" style for many evils & many crimes, so, the warrnings were there, they knew & now evil shall DIE --

  • @TrippyTheShroom LOL -- it's like you were reading my thoughts. Thanks for the laugh!

  • if this was redone today it would be over dubbed with a real singer and would have been done in about 20 shots.

his off note and hits the wrong strings a number of times but it shows raw emotion which is what the scene is about.

  • Rod Steiger beat out Newman for the Oscar that year, but he didn't play the banjo ...didn't spend a night in the box either.

  • Chills down my spine

  • thank you youtube for letting me see this..

  • One of the great movies of all time!!! It has so much meaning behind it!!!!

  • @RichardElden if its so crap why are you watching the video....some one has little a life on there hands

  • @Curiner - You mean like Gary Busey being a Poor Mans Nick Nolte, or Bruce Dern being a Poor mans Jack Nicholson ?

  • @Texaskingfish Bruce Dern is poor man's nothing. He is an excellent actor.

  • @rayjr62 - I agree but You cannot fail to see especially in his early work a noticeable resemblance in some of his gestures, mannerisms, and speaking cadences to Jack. I was not Dissing Bruce nor did I coin that phrase. I heard it somewhere twenty years ago.

  • This makes me want to cry, but I don't, because Paul Newman wanted people to be healthy, happy, and appreciate life. Care for others if you can.

  • @RichardElden : I think Newman was an almost perfect choice because the character, especially in the book, is a very disturbed and not too lovable anti-hero guilty of rape, larceny, and more while fighting in Europe. Newman's charm takes the edge off of what would be an otherwise shady character and allows audiences to warm to him. I can see McQueen as a good 2nd choice though.

  • @Nemesis861965 james dean?

  • @nothingbutaFENDER : James Dean died as the result of a traffic accident in 1955, about 12 years before the filming of Cool Hand Luke.

  • @Nemesis861965 i realize that, i was suggesting that james dean may have been able to play the character of luke in a way that was truer to the book.darker, more sinister than paul played it.but why mess with near perfection? or even attempt to speculate because some know it all might come along and try to show you up for having the audacity to simply speculate

  • @nothingbutaFENDER : No need to get testy. We’ve never met, therefore I don’t know what you know or don’t know. I didn’t even think of Dean. Yes, I suppose that had he lived he may have been a good choice; although Newman and McQueen would have been hard to beat.

  • if you dont like cool hand luke then your one of two things....too young to understand it....or to stupid ....in dirtyfknmouths case hes just a young stupid jerk that will learn soon enough cancer is no laughing matter for any one

  • @RichardElden Why? I'd have thought you would have wanted him to see the light fade.

  • Such a moving, heartfelt, and touching scene. Beautifully done by Paul Newman.

  • @RichardElden Sucks for you then, I suppose.

  • @RichardElden Sure do have a lot of hate in your heart. Enjoy hell.

  • @RichardElden Sorry for your loss.

  • @RichardElden and a troll who obviously doesn't get the point of the movie at all. Everybody loves it, but they're all wrong. Only YOU see the truth about this movie. Good job.

  • Long Live 'Luke's' Spirit of Resistance in America!

Luke is alive and well in Luke Rudkowski, We Are Change NY.

Search youtube ONE WORD @ #OCCUPYWALLSTREET

  • @RichardElden a number one idiot you are1

  • What we got here... is failure to communicate

  • Keep shakin that bush boy!

  • @iambehindyou99 Shakin the bush here boss.

  • R.I.P. Paul Newman.

  • I think this is the best scene in cinema history. Emotional, inspiring, and terrific acting.

  • Lovin this Scene here Boss!!

  • That's some fucking acting!

  • In the end he got free. No more running and no more working for any bosses. Really powerful movie!

  • he wouldn't of ran away if the warden didn't make him stay in the box for no reason

  • I guess he was trying to keep it together. But i guess it wasnt gonna be long before

    that little faith....just ...ran out

  • It is a great song from a great movie and it has nothing, at all, to do with religion.

  • @MrDuMeMi I agree, It's about loss. We all ride this rock, lose loved ones and die. Religion is based upon faith. No one knows why we are here yet, it seems everyone has an opinion. To leave a comment, lib or conserv bias always speaks more about the author not about the subject.

  • @spudseals I hate you because you are absoulutleylu correct

  • 9 people are spending the night in the box

  • 9 people our spending the night in the box

  • @jrichboro Thats OK, its the way they want it.

  • I think this may very well be the Greatest American movie......Is it?

  • this song is a classic regardless if no one knows who the original writer is. but if u look up the old lyrics to this songs its amazing and you its ment to be played slow. not to be played fast as hell and talk about sex and drugs... not that those are some of my favorite things :)

  • Brilliant... I have no words to describe this.

PD: Perhaps because I'm Spanish lol

  • PAUL NEWMAN THE LEGEND!!!! WAT A GREAT GREAT GREAT ACTOR ! E DONT HAVE ACTORS LIKE HIM TODAY... AND WE WILL NEVER HAVE . EVER AGAIN!

  • This is what I love about YT. I seriously am on here ten times more than FB. Everything I want to see, I can. I just thought about this scene, and here we go. I love you, YouTube.

  • this man melts my heart

  • sound is shite mate...

  • One of the ten greatest movies ever made.

also the sweatiest movie ever made.

  • Although I am not a Catholic, I am a christian, and I love this tender moment from the movie"Cool Hand Luke". Paul Newman was one of the best actors of all time : )

  • I want this played at my funeral.

  • what kinda miserable cunt would dislike this video ???

  • Thank you pop, Happy Memorial Day

  • my daddy always watched this movie with me. like this so he will hopefully see it love you dad! ♥

  • Amazing acting! All the little pauses he puts in because Luke is trying to remember the words while he has a million other things running through his mind and emotions welling up. Just outstanding acting.

  • Shaking the tree boss... Shaking the tree...

  • this is perfect.

  • One of my favorite movies rest in peace mr. newman

  • My dad first showed me this movie when I was like 14. I didn't really understand it then, but I still liked it.

But now, this is THE CLASSIC movie that every one has to see. So great...

  • clean? what about the part where the car wash chick presses her tits against the windshield, they'r eye banging her the whole time. don't get me wrong absolutely love the movie

  • @amigatommy7 somethin that fine just gotta be named Lucille

  • @amigatommy7 - You might find this interesting - Google search George Kennedy on Cool Hand Luke Car Wash Scene. Watch the interview...

  • Comment removed

  • @Texaskingfish : Thanks for that. Interesting. In the book it's a high school girl in a bikini sun bathing while they work the road.

  • They do not make good clean movies like this anymore, everything now is all sexually immoral.

  • @WhisperingScriptures Everything?

  • Great movie! Paul is an awsome actor. Papillion? or Cool Hand Luke?

IM HIS OFFICIAL EGG PEELER, DATS DA LAW. haha :P

  • I'd give a million bucks to find out what Paul was thinking about that made him cry - when he filmed this scene - He had to have used some part of his personal past to get the deep emoption going

  • I watched this movie in english class today, this part made me cry. Back in the old days people like this were good singers without the help of auto-tune.

  • One of the great movie scenes of all time. Only blue eyes could pull that off. I miss Paul Newman

  • this song is so FREAKing awesome

  • Miss him.

  • i was named after this prodigy of a man

  • RIP Paul Newman, you're not only a great actor but also a great human being

  • Idiot.

  • he died a few years ago

  • Unprecedented - King God Creator has summoned world leaders in charge of the people on my land. I converse with my son 3in1of2 Loyal Noble Faithful Servants Frederick & Peter of Lancaster UK only & no other living or dead. For what is to be completed & done regarding my sphere. They stole it at Number10gov they have not budged an inch in 2000 years. Everything they have got they gave it to themselves & like how they have got it! I will take this to the people by whatever means my son chooses.

  • You KNOW who's the leader in this group.

  • NEWMAN IS SO HANDSOME I COULD CRY

  • But accordingto Steve Martin you can never play a sad song on a banjo ... nor has there ever been a sad polka song.☺

  • Maybe he shouldn't put faith in idols and jesus's he might not be in prison crying.

  • @mr7thDay Why did you even bother to watch this?

  • @moctor3 I like cool hand Luke.If others like it that must mean we have that in common=I like people that I share common interest with.So I want to warn my common man of the down falls of putting faith in idols.A plastic jesus/mary is an idol.lol duh.

  • @mr7thDay Don't you never talk to me like that again.....NEVAH!!!!!!!!!!

  • @mr7thDay

I LOVE MY PLASTIC JESUS AND MY PLASTIC MARYS SO GO CRY YOURSELF TO SLEEP

OK CUZ IM NOT GOING TO STOP LOVING NONE OF MY JESUS STUFF OK WOW I SUPPOSE

YOU THINK OWNING A FORD CAR IS IDOL WORSHIP TOO HUH DID YOUR PARENTS BRAIN

WASH YOU OR DID YOU DO IT YOURSELF BECUZ HAVING JESUS STUFF IS NOT IDOL WORSHIP

AND EITHER IS WEARING A CROSS I GOT ONE ON RIGHT NOW DUDE

  • @CSUTAMTAM So, if Jesus was alive today and was executed. I guess you'd be wearing a gold electric chair around your neck.Crucifixion is the old way of execution.

  • What makes Paul Newman cry?

  • @NoClassic he just found out that his mother passed away

  • @neonplayboy23 I knew thats why his character was crying, I am curious what he was thinking to produce the tears.

  • "And the winner is for best actor..." You can pick many scenes, but the moment at 1:10 is the incredible. Unfortunately, Newman did not win the award that year for best actor. What were they thinking?

  • @rblet 'In the heat of the night' had to get it with the political correctness vote that year

  • best part- 1:10 the first tear in his right eye.

  • best part- 1:10 the first tear in his left eye.

  • @jackhammer2752 my bad

  • And he didn't win the Oscar...

  • I don' care if it rains or freezes

Longs I got my Dashboard Jesus

Riding on the dashboard of my car......

The song we all sing at least once in our lives...

  • God I love this movie...and i'm a 'youngster" ha...born in 1984....it's funny because i showed my friend this movie a couple years ago and he loved it and he was telling me a couple months later...talking about his work mates at home depot surprised that he even knew this movie...ha...

  • @BarstoolBlues33 Although I don't consider myself too old, I'm definitely older than you, and I'm happy to hear that some younger people still appreciate the classics. Although technology allows hollywood to do anything nowadays, the oldies are irreplaceable....

  • Seems like 7 Guys will never feel the cool hand!

  • WHo is the dark-haired guy at 0:32? He looks familiar.

  • @Mikhielle2910 you know that old show "The Waltons"? he was the dad on that show

  • One of the most underrated fims ever made.

  • @jonesbones638 Haven't you seen the movie? He just found out his mother died and he can't attend the funeral. I'm pretty sure you cry too when people you love die.

  • One of the best scenes in movie history hope he got an award for it

  • great little diddy... and of course 6 people are too retarded to "get it"

  • It's pretty amazing how Paul Newman can sing AND play AND make himself cry, all at the same time.

  • this my favorite movie, but im a 15 year old girl, that should show you how amazing this movie is

  • Comment removed

  • @Itsacycle What does your age and gender have to do with how good a movie that is?

  • @RoseBudisaSLED 'Cause often a 15 year old girls' favourite film is Mean Girls... or something leaning that way. Suggesting that a film about prisoners made in '67 would have to be pretty stunning in whatever way.

  • @Itsacycle That just shows how amazing you are

  • @Itsacycle snap!

  • that ol' luke

  • el mejor actor de todos los tiempos

  • Paul Newman's amazing acting in this scene just how much movies have lost their emotional touch these days

  • I literally play this over and over again.

  • @xHelloMyNameIsJesusx

........this is the 5th time in a row ive listened to it on loop. hahah youre not alone.

  • and im 26 years old this movie came out before I was born

  • probably one of the greatest movie scenes ever

  • I remember this movie so well

  • It cried because it was impressed.

  • The significance of this is it is probaby the only song Cool Hand Luke knew that had anything that was slightly religious. The irony is it is irreverent, but he feels he should play something in the memory of his mother. Very thought provoking if you look underneath the surface.

  • true legend

  • and the opening scene of luke cutting the tops off the parking meters scared my ma cos he looked just like my drunken father who we'd just escaped from.

  • my mum took me to this movie when i was 9 and there were vietnam r&r soldiers there and when they played 'god save the queen' (in NZ) the soldiers stood up and i said 'what are they standing up for theyre yanx' and ma said 'ssshhhh, theyre just being polite' - and me and my brother crept up behind them and stole their caps.

  • Watch the movie and learn.

  • This movie is a work of brilliance! An all star cast with a bulletproof script. Not one for the those that get cheap kicks of an overdose of CGI and over the top action.

  • Great flick. love it

  • it may not be a masterpiece, but it's about the only movie I've ever watched for four days in a row; couldn't get enough of it. . . the abuse ole Luke took was incredible in light of his minor crimes.

  • I don't wuite understand why this movie is considered to be a masterpeice. Don't get me wrong I liked it just I don't think it's a "masterpeice"

  • @ALLIED7621 NO DISRESPECT BUT I THINK YOU NEED TO WATCH IT AGAIN

  • @ALLIED7621; Break it down with me, and look at it this way - a decorated war veteran is jailed for smashing parking meters while drunk. Sounds stupid, right? Now, because he's been free his entire life, Luke rebels against the guards in even the smallest ways. He constantly tries to escape, and ultimately dies for freedom. He had maybe two years left in the pen, but he wouldn't accept being locked up. He died over parking meters. This movie is a masterpiece because of its message of futility

  • @PeepshowBaldwin Well put, as I said a good movie but I guess i'm just too young too appreciate it! lol
