  • if i had one wish i would bring elliott back this song is amazing

  • also, i loved the original lyrics from "Everythings ok"...

The original was even more maddening than this one. I can't help but love dark and twisted stories, especially when it's sung. Elliott was, perhaps, the very best artist of the generation to ever sing a story. I consider him a revolutionary and I like him because I couldn't see anything superficial about him. He must have lived an amazing life!

  • @burgermikestir Amazing, sure- but like many great artists, especially those living in N. Hollywood, a life filled with strife, disgust with his surroundings and drug abuse. Poor guy in a way- and it's a shame I start REALLY appreciating these artists after they're gone...I love that line about singing a story- I see this more and more as i age. i even see the stories in Van Gogh and Escher where I used to just see "art" or a bunch of lines, colors, textures, etc.

  • @burgermikestir (cont.) That, to me is the beauty of great art no matter what form it takes- you can view it's surface, superficially and really enjoy yourself but if and when you are ready you can really "hear" what they wanted to convey and get a glimpse of their soul for better or worse. His voice and melodies kind of haunt me in that way, but I wouldn't have it any other way...

  • This song is like... totally rad.

Like many of Elliott's songs, it maintains such beautiful progressions with main melody and backups (him) harmonizing between the progression and melody.... It's words depict a dot on sentiment about a man who lost his sweet mary k, and it REALLY claws at the heart. Undeniably, the lyrics that end this song are haunting and makes the story's character seem as though he has completely lost his marbles.

  • @burgermikestir I'm sorry but i laughed at the word rad.

  • This is the prettiest song i've ever heard about a "woman of the night", miss u Elliot...

  • one of my favorite songs.........on my birthday. I will say it it is a perfect song if the lyrics were more clear

  • this one is great

  • the everything is ok version isnt nearly as good as this one...i think this is one of his best tunes. fun as hell to play on the guitar too.

  • i know the chords to this and can apply the angeles pick pattern to it which sounds ok but not 100% so any fellow smith players who can play well please help as i cant find a tab for this or everythings ok. i would owe u big time!

  • I think he tunes down a whole step, then puts capo on 4. He applies a different picking pattern than angeles, but relatively same style. It's actually quite a bit harder. You have to alternate which throws you off. in the beginning, it's just the finger picking with (strings in this order EADGBE) X 0 2 0 0 0, and he when he hit's that amazingly clear C# (Open B with capo on 4, tuned whole step down) note he plays a C (A#) note on the the G string and slides it up to C#(B), making it so clear.

  • hey man....u think u could send me a tab for this?

  • Best song writer ever, sorry Bob Dylan.

  • @jazzhopin Bobby doesn't even have 1/10 of the talent that Elliott had.......

    Should read...

Best songwriter ever, sorry Schubert :-)

  • @WithoutTheFezOn not really true man. bob was in a time where you had to have an amazing voice too be famous. and he sang out of tune man.

  • @WithoutTheFezOn Best German opera genius ever, sorry Wagner.

  • @jazzhopin I think they're both good song writers in their own way. Smith was more a pop songwriter with a kind of sad undertone behind everything. Dylan's greatest works were minimal which created a starkness and there was this dreamy romantic feeling to everything. I like them both though I'd say I'm more partial to Bob - I think because deep down I'm just a dreamy romantic myself!

  • it was supposed to be called Everything is Ok

  • Everything's Okay was from the From a Basement era - This recording was made around the Either/Or time, which is why it's on New Moon.

  • fool...

  • This really is a beautiful song.
