I think they talk too much about negative stuff. what you insist persists. it turns into a loop. the more you talk about hate and anger the more you will have to talk about it. believing is seeing.
There's some book on Amazon called: The Org 'Biography of a Violent Man'. Not sure how a book can be so violent and still funny at the same time, but it is. They limit it to only a 100 copies a year.
I don't really like def jam poetry/slam/performance poetry all that much. Not that it isn't good, I write free verse, so I can appreciate it. Good verse is hard as hell to write.
this is the new product of rap, since rappers really don't talk about anything that will educate or benefit anyone else, this is where you must come for self help!
@goardo5 wow...what an ignorant and asinine comment to characterize an entire genre of music as uneducational or without benefit. have you even heard of mos def...talib kweli...immortal technique or new cats like das racist? listen to them and then talk.
@ubermensch826 - your reply reads young to me...you may be listening to conscious rap but you don't sound like you have learned anything...Stay in a childs place. God bless you little brother.
@goardo5 That's not true... there are plenty of poets who rap and rappers who write poetry. Look deeper than the radio and you'll find truly inspirational lyrics in rap. Eyedea, Aesop Rock, Macklemore, Sage Franics, Brother Ali, Blue Scholars and the rest. Raps not dead, and neither is spoken poetry.
@goardo5 ... i think spoken word originated sometime before ... writing? try the illiad and the odyssey. Paper revolutionized poetry, however. Now, fast forward to the late 50s and early sixties ... we have actors (spoken word poets) like Allen Ginsburg and Jack Kerouac who performed poetry and prose to the sounds of Jazz. Where does the word bee-bop come from? Jazz. So, you can say Rap is a product of Jazz and what poets did before rap even existed, but you can't claim spoken word is from rap.
@nataliemoon1 Note: Ginsburg and Kerouac were Beats. The beatnik generation has inspired many, many artists of today, including these men we are watching. They might not know it, but it's there in the past.
I love the care they gave to their thoughts and words... I just wish I could understand more of it. I couldn't make out half the words, and what they have to say is too important to be lost that way. :(
This is hot! But some of the message is lost because of the backgroud music and the speed of their speech. I love the idea and concept. Please continue because the world needs this!
I love the lyrics but every spoken word artist I met just couldn't master a flow so they stopped and switched to spoken word. I'm sure this isnt always the case but I would love to hear this much passion on a beat these days but unfortunately gucci mane is on the radio and not ppl like this
LIke the Poetry but with the music its really hard to follow-Tone of music is too high pitch and covers their voices up- hard to hear their message- maybe pick a song that's behing their voices not over-if you know what I mean! Or put that song for picture vid only!! Cheers- neat footage !!
the last two were so hott. I think it so important that tthe WORDS of a poet are clearly heard. If your words are lost in fast rhymes and slurs we lose your message the poetry is drained out. We get nothing
because its all serious and stuff and it was just be
great if the guy got clipped by that car
look at the lead up around one minute...it would be hilarious, maybe if somehow they used a dummy I guess, I mean I not suggesting it would be funny if he got hurt.
And with a dummy it could be a really hard exagerated run-over
