Were all people uglier in general in the 70's? HAHA. THis song was the #1 single on my birthday, May 1st 1971. Guess which song was also #1 around 9-10 months previous to this, about the time I was conceived. Also Three Dog Night. Mama Told Me...(You know the rest).
Do you get the sense that people were just so much gd cooler in the 60s/70s. Still that deep blues/ rock / southern rock heritage that we grew up with. All these politically correct fools succeeded in feminizing men, destroying culture, and music. Now there's no more soul in music, and the country is falling apart
If I had to name a song from my boyhood in 5 seconds or less, this would be the one. I was too late for the Beatles, and oddly enough I mostly listened to country on my radio--until this song came out of nowhere. "Uncle Albert," was another one from the same time frame that had as big an impact.
I was sitting in a whole school assembly, 700 kids, 1971, teachers and head master all decked out in gowns with 10 prefects all dressed up in uniform all sitting on the stage facing a sea of kids. You didn't look sideways or turn up without uniform. It was the head masters usual 10 minute rant and rave and then we'd all stand for a hymn that we'd learnt in music. With a rye grin the head prefect went over to the record player and put on "Joy to the world". Blew me away and much rejoicing!!
I remember listening to this song like it was yesterday. Looking out my back window watching my neighbor that I had a crush on. Where the f_ck did the time go
When I was in Mrs. Nelson's first grade class at Atlantic Heights in Portsmouth, NH 3 boys got up and sang this song for show and tell. It was awesome! I'll never forget it.
WHAT A SONG, "JOY TO THE WORLD", they got it, we need to figure this out. Tell Mrs. Nelson, she did a good job on helping her students, for being a good kids. You must of been good to like this :-) JOY TO THE WORLD, NH :-)
A lot of kids know this because of the words... it brings back memories of 'wild' parties, well, what we considered wild.. as newlyweds.. free from parental restrictions we could party all night and play our seventies' music loud!
Anyone know how they got their name? a great Trivia question..
@talex42 If you have not gotten an answer to this question it happened to be Danny's girlfriend at the time that came up with it. It has something to do with a custom in Austrailla and cold nights that when you slept with three of your dogs, you were kept warm all night, it was called a Three Dog Night. Read Chuck's book "Three Dog Nightmare". It explains alot about the formation of the band in mid to late 60's LA.
