@georich51 The most problems I see with removing a door handle, is removing it off the door after all the screws have been removed. Sometimes the paint on the door sticks to the back side making it difficult to remove without pulling any of the surrounding door paint off. Buyer beware!...lol Joe :0
@bebopopbebopop You just be careful with that MMA stuff. Why did your mom take your door knob? Was she afraid you were going to drop kick your door knob in?....lol Tell your mom that you really appreciate her concerns for you but you would rather like her support for your new sport.....so you can protect her....I think she'll like that response, don't you? Joe :0
@jjlatinopedia Once you remove the screws for the one side, the other side slips right off. You might have to push the door latch in a little in order to remove the other side.....sometimes you do, sometimes you don't. You'll get it. Thanks for sending me your question. Joe :0
@VideoJoeKnows i worded my question incorrectly...how do you take the door knob off from the other side that doesnt have screws CONSIDERING you are locked outside with your keys still in the room. FML
@VideoJoeKnows i wish it had a hole in the middle of the door knob. i wouldve simply inserted a q-tip or bobby pin and unlocked it with ease. :( but no, its actually a key hole. i was actually thinking about purchasing an electrical or battery operated "universal key set. it seems to work pretty fine on all these YT videos.
@jjlatinopedia Then you have a keyed entry lock. I would recommend you replace this with a privacy lock, that just has a push button on one side & the little pin hole on the other. I'm just about ready to do a video that shows how to unlock a keyed deadbolt when you can't find or lost your key. Watch for it. I've never heard of this universal key set you were mentioning....sounds interesting. Thanks for your comments. I always like to hear from my viewers!! Joe :0
@danorambo Is there a set screw under the handle causing the handle to not come apart? Maybe the handle assembly was installed to the door just after the door was initially painted thereby causing the handle to be stuck to the face of the door, by the paint. Try poking the edges with a sharp putty knife to see if you can unstick it. Look closely at the handle since you may mark up the door, especially if it's not this. Please get back to me to let me know what you find. Joe :0
@danorambo I'm glad to hear you were able to free-up your door knob. Thanks for sending in your comments! I always like to hear from my viewers. Joe :0
@DukeandMackey You could use a screw gun or drill if you're careful. If you're saving the door knob, I would suggest you remove it by hand since you don't want to strip the head or threads on the screw as sometimes you have to get in there at an angle to remove the screws. Thanks for your comments. Joe :0
@pakinbabe I am sorry you were not able to figure out how to open your locked bedroom door. If I was close by, you know I would come by & fix it for you don't you!lol? Depending on how old your bedroom handle is, or what type it is....may be the reason you were not able to open it. If you are there when the handyman comes out, let me know what he ultimately finds out OK? The lock could have had a broken part in it making you not be able to open it. Thanks for trying to do it yourself! Joe :0
@pakinbabe OK......I might not be at my computer all day since there's 2 important football games on today but I want to make sure you get your door open too.....decisions, decisions. What's a "joe" to do lol? :0
thanks Joe! - i left my mom's house (this is where my son decided to do his magic!) but will be back there later tonight or tomorrow - sigh - will let you know how it goes!
@pakinbabe If you still can't get it open tonight....I want you to send me a message, from my youtube channel page....under the "subscribe" button. Send me your phone number & I will call you......as I will not be defeated in helping you open your bedroom door! Joe :0
i unscrewed the door know - one half of the knob in my hand the other half on the other side of the locked door. so i was looking at black thing (in the middle of the now bare knob hole) still a locked door - now knobless.
@pakinbabe Can you put a little screw driver in there & somehow pull back the spring loaded door latch? Do you have a putty knife or small sharp knife you can put in between the door & the door frame?.....then slide the door latch back? If your door swings in, does it have enough slack to push & bend & push a credit card in between the door & the door stop right at the door latch? (this will mess up your credit card but do you have an old card or another type of card that you can try?). Joe :0
@pakinbabe The knobless door will have a portion of the door latch inside this hole. Look at it & you should be able to take a smallish screw driver & wedge the slide portion over which should open your door latch. You might see some holes in the latch portion which you might have to put your screw driver in ( a small screwdriver) then move to open the latch. One way or another you should be able to move the latch with the door knobs off the door. Try that. Joe :0
@pakinbabe Put a screw driver down the "black thing" & turn the screw driver to the left...now try the door...now turn to the right & try the door.....you have to use a fairly small standard slotted screw driver....do not use a phillips screw driver. Try that. Joe :0
@pakinbabe Back to the "black thingy"....put standard slotted screw driver in hole...turn the screw driver "then" try turning the remainig portion of the door knob & this could open your door. Don't forget to try turning to the right..if that doesn't work try turning the screwdriver to the left.....use small standard slotted screwdriver...the kind that would've fit through the pinhole....if you use too big of a screwdriver, it won't work......stay calm....you can do it! Joe :0
@pakinbabe If turning the smallish screwdriver to right or left doesn't work....it might be a type of door knob that does not turn, in the pinhole. try putting a small screwdriver in the bare knob hole & put the screwdriver in straight...make sure you're hitting metal...then push in on it. If you hear &/or feel a click now try turning the door knob area & you might be able to open the door that way. Let me know if you can get your door open. There's not many ways to open your door. Joe :0
my 4 year old locked the door leaving the bedroom and i cannot get the door unlocked! I tried the pinhole, didn't work, so unscrewed it and the piece fell off but there is a black latch piece still there in the hole and door still won't unlock! ANY suggestions???
@pakinbabe There's two different ways you can try to unlock a privacy handle door. The little pinhole....you will either feel in the hole & push it or........some other handles you have to take a small screw driver & twist it. Not sure how you removed the handle & the piece "fell off" as the door handle mounting screws should be on the other side of your locked door. What did you try when you "tried the pinhole"? What did you unscrew & what piece fell off? Joe :0
@pakinbabe If the door handle came off then reach in there with a screw driver & slide the shaft of the screw driver in there then wiggle it around & that might pull the latch back so you can open the door. If you can't open it, send me more inof on exactly what you have done so far. Let me know if you get the door open. Joe :0
