In addition to Vivaldi's, there are Pergolosi, and Bach Stabat Maters'. If one knows the words or lyrics, one will know that it is very touchy amd moving religious music. I love them all. Please note that Pergolosi's original Latin words are not the same as those of Bach's German. Nevertheless, same impact.
Although this is personal, i'll admit it in public. this piece stopped me from killing myself when i was 25. My final thought (what was to be my final thought) was...how could one leave a world where such music exists?
@sayff1 This music is very deep and touches the soul in a very distinct and personal way. It is really nice to see young folks enjoying music like this. Good for you!
by the way..thank you very much obrerga for this great piece. you must have wonderful taste and be a wonderfully sensitive and cultured person, as everyone on this page, including kamochuelo...even though i got angry with him. or her.
@BornWestern I am a muslim, and this is one of favourite pieces of music. We are all human before we are muslim or christian, eastern or western. Don't let your government and the stupid media kill your own mind and independent judgment. Go live in a muslim country and learn about islam (there), and you will change your mind....otherwise you are doomed to ignorance, which, will be a shame, since if you listen to this kind of music you cant be that stupid. You still have time to save yourself.
I like Philippe Jaroussky very much, but I have to admit that performance is really less impressive, and especially less moving than James Bowman's performance, which is still the best version ever recorded to me.
One of the most moving compositions.. Going through Catholic school the song resonates deeply... A mother watching the crusifixion of her son.. our Savoir. Philippe jaroussky gives it a certain spiritual echo
I think the 1st mage doesn`t match with the first music (i´m sorry i`m from madrid). I love (realy) your video, but... maybe we could thinkwe are downloading Crhist! form his cross....// And now in spanish: Ahí vá mi corazón!
Thank you for your comment and remark. Perhaps you are right. I'm not a catholic, I'm a jew and I think I don't feel some nuances of tis Holy text. I just wanted to show Sorrowing Mother in her way, because it seems to me this music speak of inner sorrow of woman, sorrow of mother. I think it's very "Human" music, not just a Holy hymn or Historic text.
It's only my opinion, but your version is rightly more.
I know I'm late on this, but I just wanted to comment on how it's nice to see actual respectful dialogue (don't see much of that on the internet). Great video!
@oberega A mothers sorrow at the Death of a Son trancends all Religions. Mary was a Jewish mother mourning her Son terrible death . The Jewish people suffered terribly at the hands of evil men My own Countryman A Catholic Priest Monsignor Hugh O Flaherty Saved many Jews in Rome from Death and is Remembered by the Israeli Government as a RIGHTEOS AMOUNG THE NATIONS .
@oberega You have all right!!! This is a music, a beautiful music, and you don't need to believed in god, boudha or anything to appreciate it. Personelly I thing all religions say the same things and I don't care about that.
@oberega i think the images are suitable for the music....vivaldi was a priest....alot of his music is devotional in terms of theme...so it makes lots of sense
@oberega Catholic music or Jewish music they're share of the Humanity. It's our common heritage since we all share same world. Catholics Jews Atheist they all born same way and die same way so what's the difference nothing.
@kamochuelo out of all the comments in the mind, you couldn't find but this childish, opinionated comment? I am sorry i don't mean to be personal, but when i am listening to this wonderful music i hate to see the negative comment especially when it appears first. The image of christ is used here in the most UNIVERSAL language of suffering and sorrow, and it's not my problem if you have a grudge against catholicism. By the way i am muslim, so i am not saying this in defence of catholicsim.
that ugly, flat voice, without emotion, I dislike.

all music at this time was religious, therefore all of the gifted geniuses of this era would be writing religious music.
People of all creeds and beliefs can appreciate this kind of inspiration and genius!
