@GhostShadowXII Not really I would say myself, information systems is its own area of discipline, I mean Information systems is more designing databases, knowing what systems to use to store information.
But they all follow the same general area, using information(data), processing it and then presenting that in a more informative way, that's all IT is, Information Processing Technology (should be called IPT I think).
Sir, thank you the video. I love what you say about people who want to get into the business just to make money... you have to love what you do to truly do it well. It seems obvious, but I've even had college professors who don't love information technologies. Where we may differ is that I love Microsoft, and I love programming. I don't know much about Lynix. Is it really boring? Why is there such a large amount of people that knock it when its always considered a top career by so many occupational sites that research the statistics about these jobs?
to run a Business in IT inc. repairing computers.. you do not need any qualifications but you would want them either way.
So many jobs in IT are knocked back because too many people go for IT at once then that selection of people do work and/or run a business in another field by the time the jobs in IT are vancent, again.
When I look for jobs online there seem to be alot, with good pay. When I research the best jobs, the highest paying, the most in demand, IT is always on top. Many people say that IT is boring, that it is a waste of time to study, and that it is a dead end. It seems to me that MOST people who claim to be in the field totally knock it while a small amount actually consider it a great career. Continued->
Maybe somebody can help me. Ive been considering a career in IT but I am reading alot of mixed opinions about the field. Some people say that the industry is dying in the US and that everything is being outsourced while others say that there are plenty of opportunities in the field. Some say that everything can be outsourced and others say that there are certain "hands on" type of jobs that could never be outsourced which makes sense to me. Continued->
I have been an IT Professional for 15 years; helpdesk/tier1-2-3 support, Team Lead, Project Coorinator/Manager/Senior Manager and now it's all over. Everything has gone to India. Any job that can be performed remotely, will leave the US. My income at my last job was half of what it was 10 years ago. The last position I applied for had over 1400 applicants for only one job. It ruined my life. I have no family because I spent all my free time re-doing my certs. IT SUCKS! Everyone is leaving IT.
Thanks for the tips man, I will definitely take them to heart. I can tell you definitely speak from lot's of experience and have a passion for the IT field.
Thankyou for this video, it was really helpful because i recently grauduated from computer science and didn't have many people to advice me clearly about the jobs that I can be capable of doing...thankyou again
i was looking in to becoming an IT. they got these classes at a city college for like ten months is that the way to go??? or do i need to go to a better college?? an one more question. when u apply for the jobs do they do background checks for misdermenours??
I have a question ; From what I understand "Networking Security" is the way to go? Is this correct cause I am interested in everything about computers from web to networking and programing lol and can you get into the job market with a associate degree
Do the IT major! If you want the money...what other major will get it for you. Either you are going to be a Doctor, a Lawyer, or a IT person. Finance jobs are dead, Marketing careers are commission based, Political jobs won't make you money until you're 50 yrs old, and even MBA's can't find work and flock to be consultants.
Take it from me. Learn IT...get paid 6 figures...then take that money and become a Digital or Internet entrepreneur. Make a new Twitter or some widgets, then retire.
God.. I do help desk.. they said I have to start there and progress... I'm dreading this... Pay is crappy, moral is low. Everything the video mentioned around 1:50 is accurate. I'm trying to keep up hope
HI im from philippines. this march 09 i will be graduating in high school. and a month to come i will be a college.until now i can't decide what course should i take.but i love working on computers, the internet stuff.once i said "i want to be a great web developer." but then when im watching some IT videos.I felt a little bit of discouragement.i can't still say that i will be comfortable if i will take up IT.i still does'nt know how to fix my computer.i still consult technicians.
Unfortunately, BSCS has more mathematics and sciences compared to what I posted. For BSCS: college algebra plane and spherical trigonometry discrete mathematics abstract mathematics integral calculus differential calculus probability and statics automata physics 1 physics 2 etc. I can provide you the complete checklist if you want to. ^^
Well the only reason I asked is bc I went to sign up to go to school to get a BSCS and when I talked to one of the head guys @ the technology building he asked;
"Are you good at calculus and trig?"
"No...."
"Do you have any programming experience?"
"No...."
He just looked me like "What the hell are you doing here?"
i'm an IT major and you just convinced me to drop it. i just wanted the money and im having a very difficult time in my classes. maybe its not for me.
I am thinking of my IT career very seriously. Can you please guide me on what I can do to learn the A+ and MCSE and more without necessarily paying again for the course.
*What are the alternatives?
*How can i study privately quickly at home? (no one to help me)
*I only have one PC at home running Windows Home Edition. Where and how do i practice my A+ without messing up my important work.
*Shall I buy a cheap PC from local computer shop to practice + which type?
I have my A+ the old test of the A+ didn't include windows xp. The new test includes XP and Vista. You can get a book called A+ Certification by Michael Meyers. There may be a new version of it. That will pretty much guide you to the test. You can usually find free old pc's that people will give away to work on. My advice is to try to get a job from the university you graduate from while your still a student.
Help desk is the worst job in IT. No one takes more *@#!. Thats why I'm finishing school and getting higher level certs. I'm done w/ that nonsense. Good when you're just getting into the field for experience, but dont stay there! I dont know what it is about help desks, but it aint good.
I personally agree with you... If you want to earn you must learn not because everybody is getting a high paid job you also follow the same path. Be a jack of few trades not all trades developed your skills and compassion is very important in this career. Very good advice.
i totally agree with you(but in my country a lot of programmers are also m$ noobs,a lot of them;only some have true m$ skills, find a unix 1337 is nearly impossible):
do this job only if you want learn it not only to find a job;it's not like maths, science or some others works, the amount of knowlage is hudge and you must be updated constantly
As an IT Vet, I would estimate that the majority of his comments are on the upbeat side.
Reality IMO: IT is a highly competitive field, and between off shoring, H1B's and no real entrance barriers I would never recommend anyone I know going into IT. In general IT does not require a degree or certifications - both are largely a waste of money. Think twice before going into IT, seriously...
Hi TechAnvil, Im pursuing MS in Advncd Software Engg in UK, Im a very good @ programming, soon ill finish my MS. But I dont hav any industry experience, wat will u suggest for my status, I mean will it b easier for me to find jobs on programming with out industry experience?
Hi! I'm an IT student here in the Philippines. Job will not be a problem when you are really good at programming. In fact job will be the one who will find you specially that you have your MS degree. Cheers! ^^
That was an awsome movie, I have just recently finished highschool and am still not sure what I wan't to do. I love messin arround with my couple computers I have at home, building and upgrading them myself. IT looks really interesting to look into, thanks for putting this out for us to see.
I work IT at Southern Illinois University. Word of advice, you need to make up your mind before you go into the field. Its sorta a one way path to computers. With all the classes you will take, its not easy to drive away onto another career path because your classes don't meet the requirements for the second route.
Thanks for the great videos, getting out of the navy in a year, looking into getting a+ and maybe ccna(navy pays for tuition muhahahaha..). thanks for making distinction between desk and tech support, didnt know that ;)
im working as an IT infrastructure support. im learning a lot about IT operations. this was my first job. IT Infra is so powerful in our company we can free peek at any confidential corporate files just like a normal office file.
I'm studying for my A+ Certification. I would like a desktop position. I am currently searching for employment and I see a lot of help desk positions so your insight is enlighting.
what is the major of an IT?? and what job will i get someday if i take that course?? then if im good in picture editing and video editing.. should i take the course of IT??
IT is very practical for your own business too. I write about IT for people all day long. I think it is very interesting. When used correctly, IT will make businesses far more efficient, saving them time and money.
Finally, I think its important for young viewers out there to realize that IT is a wide and varied profession with few absolutes...job experiences can vary wildly based on the company you work for, its culture, and the level of the IT totem pole you work on (i.e. development, management, QA, operations, etc.).
Additionally, you are right in saying that IT jobs are secure because someone has to "touch" the equipment, but again, this is speaking from an Operations/Admin perspective. Many, if not most, IT jobs don't require touching hardware, and thus, can and are easily outsourced.
The "real" IT jobs over see the "non" graduate workers. Though the level 1 workers do labor, the True IT management makes critical decisions in operation.
Buenisimo!
Gracias!

Can I ask a question? What exactly is the difference between computer science and information technology?
Jzend001 2 years ago
computer science is more on software application while IT is more on Hardware application and PC operation..

Computer science focuses more on Graphic design.

Is it really boring? Why is there such a large amount of people that knock it when its always considered a top career by so many occupational sites that research the statistics about these jobs?
b0ondockz 2 years ago
Firstly,
to run a Business in IT inc. repairing computers.. you do not need any qualifications but you would want them either way.
So many jobs in IT are knocked back because too many people go for IT at once then that selection of people do work and/or run a business in another field by the time the jobs in IT are vancent, again.
So in conclusion, IT is a constant yoyo.
donman92 2 years ago
When I look for jobs online there seem to be alot, with good pay. When I research the best jobs, the highest paying, the most in demand, IT is always on top. Many people say that IT is boring, that it is a waste of time to study, and that it is a dead end. It seems to me that MOST people who claim to be in the field totally knock it while a small amount actually consider it a great career. Continued->
b0ondockz 2 years ago

IT SUCKS! Everyone is leaving IT.

yeah, i don't know if i want to be an IT major, cause i'm kinda in it just for the money.
o0ArchAngeL0o 2 years ago
Yeah bad idea
itrod123 2 years ago 2
Do the IT major! If you want the money...what other major will get it for you. Either you are going to be a Doctor, a Lawyer, or a IT person. Finance jobs are dead, Marketing careers are commission based, Political jobs won't make you money until you're 50 yrs old, and even MBA's can't find work and flock to be consultants.
Take it from me. Learn IT...get paid 6 figures...then take that money and become a Digital or Internet entrepreneur. Make a new Twitter or some widgets, then retire.

@ILikeExoticStuff Does learning IT require being very good with math? What type of degrees do you need to make a decent salary?

Well the only reason I asked is bc I went to sign up to go to school to get a BSCS and when I talked to one of the head guys @ the technology building he asked;

(London)
Thankx
khurams 3 years ago

I dont know what it is about help desks, but it aint good.

thanks for the advice mate, i am also concidering a career in IT.
shincheck 3 years ago
I personally agree with you... If you want to earn you must learn not because everybody is getting a high paid job you also follow the same path. Be a jack of few trades not all trades developed your skills and compassion is very important in this career. Very good advice.
blacksugar25 3 years ago
great explaination,clear and precise!
i totally agree with you(but in my country a lot of programmers are also m$ noobs,a lot of them;only some have true m$ skills, find a unix 1337 is nearly impossible):
do this job only if you want learn it not only to find a job;it's not like maths, science or some others works, the amount of knowlage is hudge and you must be updated constantly

That was an awsome movie, I have just recently finished highschool and am still not sure what I wan't to do. I love messin arround with my couple computers I have at home, building and upgrading them myself. IT looks really interesting to look into, thanks for putting this out for us to see.
insanekid12 3 years ago
I work IT at Southern Illinois University. Word of advice, you need to make up your mind before you go into the field. Its sorta a one way path to computers. With all the classes you will take, its not easy to drive away onto another career path because your classes don't meet the requirements for the second route.

IT is very practical for your own business too. I write about IT for people all day long. I think it is very interesting. When used correctly, IT will make businesses far more efficient, saving them time and money.
wwwExamplePapersCom 4 years ago
Finally, I think its important for young viewers out there to realize that IT is a wide and varied profession with few absolutes...job experiences can vary wildly based on the company you work for, its culture, and the level of the IT totem pole you work on (i.e. development, management, QA, operations, etc.).
d9103365 4 years ago
Additionally, you are right in saying that IT jobs are secure because someone has to "touch" the equipment, but again, this is speaking from an Operations/Admin perspective. Many, if not most, IT jobs don't require touching hardware, and thus, can and are easily outsourced.
d9103365 4 years ago
The "real" IT jobs over see the "non" graduate workers. Though the level 1 workers do labor, the True IT management makes critical decisions in operation.
