  • Buenisimo!

    Gracias!

  • I wonder if the same is true here in the UK. Some good information and overview for IT jobs.

  • I realize this video is 5+ years old, but I can't refrain from commenting. I just graduated in August of '11 with a B.S. in I.T. My focus was on Network Administration, but I also picked up a little programming with Visual Basic and database administration using Access and MySQL. I am having trouble finding employment. Is it the fact that I do not have the certifications like A+ and Net+? I work for minimum wage right now and can't afford to get them. What now?

  • Thanks bro. U really know ur stuff

  • Great video, thanks a lot!

  • ur a cool guy

  • Thanks

nd r u tokin abt 70,000 bucks per year or a month??

  • Yeah, so, they phone him saying he's got it. And send me a fucking shitty little e-mail saying you aint got it. AFTER 4 FUCKING WEEKS!!!!!!! So if you do apply, just say "Oh, by the way, I'm going on holiday for 1 week to Dubai, but when I come back, give me the job and fuck everyone else".

IF YOU DO HEAR ABOUT THEM, DON'T FUCKING APPLY. THEY LITTERALY STUCK 2 FINGERS UP AT ME!!

I hope their business goes bust. That is all.

  • @VOLVORULEZ1995 if i ever meet up with them ill be sure to kick them in the testicles for you.

  • @coolpilot2001 Why thank you kind YouTuber.

  • If anyone here heres of a IT business called "Northgate IS Solutions", do not apply!

They are a waste of fucking time. I was in an interview for an apprenticeship to work there, and some one i knew went on holiday (He missed the interview), I go in, get it over with... I'm still wating 4 weeks later. The person I know comes back, he comes back from a nice holiday, decidedthat was more important than the job. He gets the fucking job. Then they phone him saying he's got it (READ NEXT COMMENT)...

  • I haven't had enough lol, it's really good stuff!

  • Is information technology and information systems basically the same thing? Does it matter which degree you have when applying for an IT job?

  • @GhostShadowXII Not really I would say myself, information systems is its own area of discipline, I mean Information systems is more designing databases, knowing what systems to use to store information.

But they all follow the same general area, using information(data), processing it and then presenting that in a more informative way, that's all IT is, Information Processing Technology (should be called IPT I think).

  • What about consulting/ project managent???

  • lØl_âñÿ_guýs_wÁnt_tõ_chát_wÌth_me

  • p.s. I'm still with you after your long "diatribe". lol. your videos are very entertaining.

  • Sir, thank you the video. I love what you say about people who want to get into the business just to make money... you have to love what you do to truly do it well. It seems obvious, but I've even had college professors who don't love information technologies. Where we may differ is that I love Microsoft, and I love programming. I don't know much about Lynix. Ha, I don't even thing I'm spelling it right. ever play doom?

  • What area did you get your BS, BA, or MS in? Information Technology or Computer Science?

  • Good stuff, thanks!

  • Thank's for your post and to everyone I'm finnlay decided to presue a carrer in IT but i wasted 10 years of my life in hospitality management and wondered what you guys thinsk of itt tech. I'm 33 years old and and I can only give my self 2 years to commit 90% on education before i have to find a job. If anyone has any info or advise I thank you kindly.

  • when you know Unix, its.. nothing.. haha I love that!

  • 5:02 He sais lolol. LOL

  • well am thinking for college in information systems of course information technology!!!

  • 2 things:

    1. I want to minor in IT because of my interest, and since I have always been good with computers, and also I was not sure about A+ cert, and I think I'll do it now.

    2. Epic college poster in the top left corner!

    Thanks for the helpful video.

  • I notice this video was made in 2006. How is the job market for IT guys in 2010? A lot has changed since then.

  • That was actually very helpful. You put that together very well. I really got a lot out of your video. Thanks so much.

  • want a crowbar?

  • What is the name of song on begining

  • This is just the kind of video I was looking for! Thank you.

  • WTF is that true??? 70k salary??

  • @MrCybergasm Depends what you do and where you live. Your experience also determines pay. But $70,000 isn't a bad annual estimate for a decent positon -- if you ask me, anyway. With all the money I'll have owed by the time I finish my master's, I damn better be making at least 50k or I'm in trouble. Watch, I'll spend all this time in college, and a guy with a certification knows everything I know and then some. It's not the old days. Degrees aren't as important as what you know; thats for sure

  • Dude, you rock. True to the game

  • dude sounds awesome... at first i was trying to follow my education as a computer engineer, that didn't work to well and i gave up! but i guess i have to start somewhere IT sounds like the right starting point ^_^

  • <3 gordon freemon FTW :D lolz yah i really liked the vid.

  • im still with you quick question though how is calculus involved because i love computers and i was looking into a career path and this one seemed the most interesting

  • look, if you would use the technology to find information you'll see that overseas concept as well as whom offers IT jobs, a you'll find your working for globalist bad guys that speak openly about killing 80-90% of people in FEMA to enslave us for our debt as a nation google alex jones...youtube.com/watch?v=dU4lYcN6zEY&feature=search

  • @FlowVipTv LOL!!!!

  • get urself a fon, an open mesh or a linksys router and slap openwrt on there, no more crappy firmware, customize away w/ linux on ur router ;D

  • Another moron telling people to get a certification and not learning the knowledge behind it.

  • cool man :)

  • What is the best way to get into computer security?

What Certifications and College Degrees are most useful when computer security is what you're interested?

Comp Sci? Comp Enginering? Programming? Networking?

Thank you for your videos I've really enjoyed them.

  • do u think u limiting your scope while describing such a vast field of IT

  • hey juz wanna ask something, where do usally works an it graduates? plz pm me ur answers.

  • I'm currently attending college for my associates will that be enough to branch out in a more specialized field?

  • what should i specialize in computer information technology or network administrative?

im getting an associates degree in it

is this worth it? PLEASE HELP

  • good advice

  • Can somebody tell me what is the difference between Computer Science (BS) and Information Technology(1yr)?

I hear people say CS is more of software stuff and IT is more hardware stuff but I would like to know more.

  • You make IT sound very interesting. Not convinced hacking a TIVO ever going to be easy.

  • Chief... I'd like to thank your advice... its coming from you seeing the future ahead of us... I'm from Malaysia... drop me a message if there is something you would like to venture into... cheers.

  • just subscribed could you do a video on 2010 update on this video?

  • Nice Career advice... from El Salvador, Central America

  • It's funny that at least half of all mature nerds have the gordon freeman look.

  • Thats racist dude

  • lol. Racist?

  • @Virginityrocks That's because Gordon Freeman is a mature nerd...

  • You're a class act. Good job.

  • nice opinion.

  • the thing is that 80% to 90% are women in the industry lol

    pc's are more a man thing :)

  • errrrrrrrrr where did u get that from? send me the link. more like 80-90% are men

  • yea thats got to be california area, in the midwest the field is more like $35-40 thousand a year.

  • Do you need a degree? What about just certifications and certificates? I do want to work in Boston, so maybe I need a degree... what do you guys think?

  • From what i know, through people that I know that are in the IT field. They say that in the past the degree was preferred in the field but in todays world the degree is still a plus but the certifications are a better way to go because it's more up to date and employers feel that if you have the certs you are more knowledgable about the material that is needed in the field.

  • Thanks! I think I'll do that (when I'm old enough). I can always get a degree later :P

  • It all depends, you can be an IT guy with certifications an well do IT. Yet management of IT is different specially when dealing in a corporation, my cousin got a B.B.A in MIS and the doors opened.. of course he does have certifications.

  • Great.

    What about part-time ?

  • what is your opinion on CISA certification, i hear that CISA s got $100 to $150 per hour , is that true?

  • what qualification is needed for IT

  • hey i want to ask i clear year 12 n want to study IT i dont have any comp qualification but know how to operate n install format so what i want to ask is IT need any qualification

  • he shouldnt thank us for watching

we should thank him 4 making this vid

    THANK U...

  • concentrate on concepts not just the languages or tools...this will help you get a IT job...and based on your companies requirement you can learn whatever...

today's trend: companies want to leverage web 2.0 AJAX and make their web interfaces more interactive/attractive for the consumers...knowledge about browsers, javascript and a good javascript library are HOT.

  • im really confuse on where should i concentrate, i know C++, VB6 and Foxpro, But im also familiar with CSS HTML PHP. i got two career option, either web designer/programmer career or application development career. which of these two would be better and why?

  • I am 16 i love computers.

Its my dream to have a job in IT in a some sort of buisness office adminastrating there mainframe

  • wow ur dream is just like mine....

good luck makin it 4 real...

  • Any certs. I should get for I.T?

  • Thanks for making these vids, subscribed. I am starting school for IT nxt month at ITT. I'LL BE WATCHING ALL YOUR VIDS.

  • Can I ask a question? What exactly is the difference between computer science and information technology?

  • computer science is more on software application while IT is more on Hardware application and PC operation..

  • Computer science focuses more on Graphic design.

  • Thank you. This is a very helpful video. I didn't know that about unix/linux.

  • I AGREE...

  • Is it really boring? Why is there such a large amount of people that knock it when its always considered a top career by so many occupational sites that research the statistics about these jobs?

  • Firstly,

to run a Business in IT inc. repairing computers.. you do not need any qualifications but you would want them either way.

So many jobs in IT are knocked back because too many people go for IT at once then that selection of people do work and/or run a business in another field by the time the jobs in IT are vancent, again.

So in conclusion, IT is a constant yoyo.

  • When I look for jobs online there seem to be alot, with good pay. When I research the best jobs, the highest paying, the most in demand, IT is always on top. Many people say that IT is boring, that it is a waste of time to study, and that it is a dead end. It seems to me that MOST people who claim to be in the field totally knock it while a small amount actually consider it a great career. Continued->

  • Maybe somebody can help me. Ive been considering a career in IT but I am reading alot of mixed opinions about the field. Some people say that the industry is dying in the US and that everything is being outsourced while others say that there are plenty of opportunities in the field. Some say that everything can be outsourced and others say that there are certain "hands on" type of jobs that could never be outsourced which makes sense to me. Continued->

  • I have been an IT Professional for 15 years; helpdesk/tier1-2-3 support, Team Lead, Project Coorinator/Manager/Senior Manager and now it's all over. Everything has gone to India. Any job that can be performed remotely, will leave the US. My income at my last job was half of what it was 10 years ago. The last position I applied for had over 1400 applicants for only one job. It ruined my life. I have no family because I spent all my free time re-doing my certs. IT SUCKS! Everyone is leaving IT.

  • Thats why im taking IT for programming C and C++ Im going to be a game programmer

  • I don't have any idea for IT, can anybody help me what's this is cause, this is my course, all i know is that this is all about programs of pcs

  • Thanks for the tips man, I will definitely take them to heart. I can tell you definitely speak from lot's of experience and have a passion for the IT field.

  • thanks for this video.

  • Thankyou for this video, it was really helpful because i recently grauduated from computer science and didn't have many people to advice me clearly about the jobs that I can be capable of doing...thankyou again

  • i was looking in to becoming an IT. they got these classes at a city college for like ten months is that the way to go??? or do i need to go to a better college?? an one more question. when u apply for the jobs do they do background checks for misdermenours??

  • I am a girl and I was wondering if this is a male dominant job???????

  • nope.

  • can u help me choose among this specialization : Systems Engineering (MCSE)

Systems Administration (MCSA) Software Development (MCSD) Database Administration (MCSD) Digital Arts

    pls ?? :((

  • choose the best and the one you really like..

dont let others decide for your future..

  • I have a question ; From what I understand "Networking Security" is the way to go? Is this correct cause I am interested in everything about computers from web to networking and programing lol and can you get into the job market with a associate degree

  • could one land a job in the IT field with just an associates degree in computer information technology?

  • Is an associates degree in computer information technology worth paying for?

  • I want to take IT course but I heard that math is difficult because there is so many math is it true? any one?

  • yeah.....it's COLLEGE ALGEBRA...and i think...that's difficult enough and it's a major subject credited :D

  • good information

  • is this a great job even for the reccession...?

  • yep but mostly at the top levels like admins and managers

  • yeah and i bet you would go through hell getting to those top levels espially during the reccession lol.

  • yeah, i don't know if i want to be an IT major, cause i'm kinda in it just for the money.

  • Yeah bad idea

  • Do the IT major! If you want the money...what other major will get it for you. Either you are going to be a Doctor, a Lawyer, or a IT person. Finance jobs are dead, Marketing careers are commission based, Political jobs won't make you money until you're 50 yrs old, and even MBA's can't find work and flock to be consultants.

Take it from me. Learn IT...get paid 6 figures...then take that money and become a Digital or Internet entrepreneur. Make a new Twitter or some widgets, then retire.

  • @ILikeExoticStuff Does learning IT require being very good with math? What type of degrees do you need to make a decent salary?

  • i just cant listen to this cunt anymore, go have a smoke and a smile and come back to me!!!

  • Hey man no need for that. If you look at the date, this video was made in 2006, when times were VERY different.

  • God.. I do help desk.. they said I have to start there and progress... I'm dreading this... Pay is crappy, moral is low. Everything the video mentioned around 1:50 is accurate. I'm trying to keep up hope

  • but i need IT because i need to be a great web developer. i hope somebody who's an IT graduate.please teach me some basic.

  • HI im from philippines. this march 09 i will be graduating in high school. and a month to come i will be a college.until now i can't decide what course should i take.but i love working on computers, the internet stuff.once i said "i want to be a great web developer." but then when im watching some IT videos.I felt a little bit of discouragement.i can't still say that i will be comfortable if i will take up IT.i still does'nt know how to fix my computer.i still consult technicians.

  • 'Help desk jobs stink' - LOL!!! (3.50)

  • What kind of math courses do you have to take for an IT degree?

  • college algebra

    plane and spherical trigonometry

    discrete mathematics

    abstract mathematics

    integral calculus

    differential calculus

    probability and statics

  • For IT? I thought that was more like Bach. in Computer Science...

  • Unfortunately, BSCS has more mathematics and sciences compared to what I posted. For BSCS: college algebra plane and spherical trigonometry discrete mathematics abstract mathematics integral calculus differential calculus probability and statics automata physics 1 physics 2 etc. I can provide you the complete checklist if you want to. ^^
  • Well the only reason I asked is bc I went to sign up to go to school to get a BSCS and when I talked to one of the head guys @ the technology building he asked;

"Are you good at calculus and trig?"

    "No...."

"Do you have any programming experience?"

    "No...."

He just looked me like "What the hell are you doing here?"

  • i'm an IT major and you just convinced me to drop it. i just wanted the money and im having a very difficult time in my classes. maybe its not for me.

  • I am thinking of my IT career very seriously. Can you please guide me on what I can do to learn the A+ and MCSE and more without necessarily paying again for the course.

    *What are the alternatives?

*How can i study privately quickly at home? (no one to help me)

*I only have one PC at home running Windows Home Edition. Where and how do i practice my A+ without messing up my important work.

*Shall I buy a cheap PC from local computer shop to practice + which type?

    (London)

    Thankx

  • I have my A+ the old test of the A+ didn't include windows xp. The new test includes XP and Vista. You can get a book called A+ Certification by Michael Meyers. There may be a new version of it. That will pretty much guide you to the test. You can usually find free old pc's that people will give away to work on. My advice is to try to get a job from the university you graduate from while your still a student.

  • If you're looking for high paying oil industry jobs check out Oilcareer com

  • Help desk is the worst job in IT. No one takes more *@#!. Thats why I'm finishing school and getting higher level certs. I'm done w/ that nonsense. Good when you're just getting into the field for experience, but dont stay there! I dont know what it is about help desks, but it aint good.

  • help desk does suck!

  • thanks for the advice mate, i am also concidering a career in IT.

  • I personally agree with you... If you want to earn you must learn not because everybody is getting a high paid job you also follow the same path. Be a jack of few trades not all trades developed your skills and compassion is very important in this career. Very good advice.

  • great explaination,clear and precise!

i totally agree with you(but in my country a lot of programmers are also m$ noobs,a lot of them;only some have true m$ skills, find a unix 1337 is nearly impossible):

do this job only if you want learn it not only to find a job;it's not like maths, science or some others works, the amount of knowlage is hudge and you must be updated constantly

  • As an IT Vet, I would estimate that the majority of his comments are on the upbeat side.

Reality IMO: IT is a highly competitive field, and between off shoring, H1B's and no real entrance barriers I would never recommend anyone I know going into IT. In general IT does not require a degree or certifications - both are largely a waste of money. Think twice before going into IT, seriously...

  • ...mmm but i hear it is stressful

  • good vid but u should rename this video to "learn unix"

  • Hi TechAnvil, Im pursuing MS in Advncd Software Engg in UK, Im a very good @ programming, soon ill finish my MS. But I dont hav any industry experience, wat will u suggest for my status, I mean will it b easier for me to find jobs on programming with out industry experience?

  • Hi! I'm an IT student here in the Philippines. Job will not be a problem when you are really good at programming. In fact job will be the one who will find you specially that you have your MS degree. Cheers! ^^

  • That was an awsome movie, I have just recently finished highschool and am still not sure what I wan't to do. I love messin arround with my couple computers I have at home, building and upgrading them myself. IT looks really interesting to look into, thanks for putting this out for us to see.

  • I work IT at Southern Illinois University. Word of advice, you need to make up your mind before you go into the field. Its sorta a one way path to computers. With all the classes you will take, its not easy to drive away onto another career path because your classes don't meet the requirements for the second route.

  • Hi Mr.Yechanvil..Thanx for the videos u produce..Its helping us very well..pls produce more videos lik these..Thanx very much again..

  • TechAnvil is no longer visiting youtube.

  • yes he is, he log in 5 years ago

  • Thanks for the great videos, getting out of the navy in a year, looking into getting a+ and maybe ccna(navy pays for tuition muhahahaha..). thanks for making distinction between desk and tech support, didnt know that ;)

  • i want to become a IT but i don't know what college i want to go to =P any recommendations and how are those tech schools like devry and etc

  • Virgina Tech or MIT are good for IT

  • cheers... good video.

  • im working as an IT infrastructure support. im learning a lot about IT operations. this was my first job. IT Infra is so powerful in our company we can free peek at any confidential corporate files just like a normal office file.

    beuahahahhaha

  • I'm studying for my A+ Certification. I would like a desktop position. I am currently searching for employment and I see a lot of help desk positions so your insight is enlighting.

  • what is the major of an IT?? and what job will i get someday if i take that course?? then if im good in picture editing and video editing.. should i take the course of IT??

    thanks!

  • IT is very practical for your own business too. I write about IT for people all day long. I think it is very interesting. When used correctly, IT will make businesses far more efficient, saving them time and money.

  • Finally, I think its important for young viewers out there to realize that IT is a wide and varied profession with few absolutes...job experiences can vary wildly based on the company you work for, its culture, and the level of the IT totem pole you work on (i.e. development, management, QA, operations, etc.).

  • Additionally, you are right in saying that IT jobs are secure because someone has to "touch" the equipment, but again, this is speaking from an Operations/Admin perspective. Many, if not most, IT jobs don't require touching hardware, and thus, can and are easily outsourced.

  • The "real" IT jobs over see the "non" graduate workers. Though the level 1 workers do labor, the True IT management makes critical decisions in operation.
