  • Can someone translate this in English please??

  • @kingkeith666

I can't understand so well because it appears to be written in spanish (argentinian) and portuguese, and a verse in hebrew. Maybe an old sephardi (hebrew-iberian) dialect.

I've finded this translation to english, but although is not literal,it keeps the heart of the song:

  • @kingkeith666 Morenika, they call me my skin was pure white from the fire of the summer sun I am dark Chorus: Morenika so very beautiful in your eyes - a burning fire my heart is all yours Morenika , they call me all those who go down to the sea if again they call me I will go with them again Morenika, they call me son to the ruling king if he calls me again I will follow him Title Morenika Album Aurora Artists Avishai Cohen Composers Traditional Arranged by Avishai Cohen Lryics Traditional
  • @canote very beautiful just as i thought it would be :)

  • Oui j'aime le sable d'Israel la terre d'Israel les soldats d'Israel et ces belles mélodies....

  • avishai 3.34-3.35

  • Being really accurate, it is not really singing in spanish as we speak it today. The language is called Ladino and it is spoken by the Sefaradim (jews from what it was the Ottoman Empire which had a big part of Spain) Still today it is spoken by a large community in Israel which has their own radio station etc... Ladino is a mix of spanish and hebrew same as Yiddish is a mix of old German with hebrew.

  • @cocteauuk

    Thanks,i didn't read all comments.

  • great song and interpretors :-)

  • harikulade:)

  • Wonderful sephardi song...

    Greetings from Poland!

  • SI!!!

  • morenika grasiozika soz-לשחרחורת

  • I first heard this song seven years ago. The group that sang is Alkimia from Germany. I love this song and specially this version.

  • I love this song. It reminds me to when I was a kid and my dad sung that...

  • Really good Spanish pronuntiation!

  • I wonder if King David sang like this to God? Beautiful! Simply Beautiful!

  • bravo quelle belle mélodie et quelle belle langue!

  • Come to Turkey ASAP! <3

  • Does anyone know where to get the lyrics in this language? I can't find it ANYWHERE ='(

  • Sefarad means a lot to me and his way of singing is really touchy. Keep up the good work Avishai. *shalom*

  • *-*

  • SHALOM VERY NICE TOV TODA

  • Wow ... I know Morenika in Polish :)

  • Exellent version of this beautifull song.

  • Muy bueno, sí señor

  • @grrrroink You might not like HOW he sings, but he most definitly knows how to sing.

His voice is just a little rough.

  • @Fizzbach - Okay, he can't sing in tune. How's that?

@niggerfuckshitreborn - well, look at your username... XD

  • @grrrroink Well that's just not true

  • @Fizzbach I certainly can hear it. It's not horrible but he's not the best singer. He should sup and play the bass. ;)

  • @grrrroink retard.

  • Comment removed

  • @grrrroink Thanks for the technical appraisal...idiot. Avishai has the SEXIEST VOICE EVER!!!!! SO much soul. But Im sure you cant hear that either!!

  • Absolutely! Yofeh tov!

  • Comment removed

  • @grrrroink I bet he sings better than you :)

  • i like the way how he terminates the song freedom forever

  • love this song! Avishai Cohen has so beautiful melodies and songs in his albums!

the sense of Morenica here is for the skin and not the hair, in spanish we can say for a girl "morena de pelo" (dark haired), or "morena de piel" (dark skinned), in this case it takes his sense with "the sun darkened me" (skin, not hair for sure :)

  • @umnanevoa Would you by any chance have the lyrics and translation for Avishai's Alon Basela? Thank you very much.

  • Very graceful interpretation of a beautiful song.

  • Ladino and hebrew are very profound and graceful! its always amazing me how strong and sweet is the Jewish music.

  • I would dearly like the lyrics to this song, but it doesn't seem to be any

  • What a deep and simply beautyful song. So strong and powerful with its softness. I hope Avishai come to Warsaw to play on Jazz Festival in Old City in Summer. Best wishes!

  • Truly amazing. Just breathtaking. I'm impressed with the depth and warmth of A. Cohen's voice. Best wishes from Poland. Hope to see & experience Mr. Avishai live...

  • Simply excellent!

  • Magnifique. J'adore.

  • i like this guy he sang it with sincere passion

    Aprende algo, huevon.

  • Directly from wikipedia especially for iconoclastaacrata.

Ladino, a Sephardic language also known as Judaeo-Spanish, primarily spoken among Sephardic Jews, or for the written form used in religious texts and translations.

Ladino es la lengua Sefardita tambien conocida como Judeo-Espanol, hablado primordialmente por Judios Sefarditas o por la forma escrita y usada en traducciones y textos religiosos.

  • Morenika a mi me llaman yo blanca naci ("Dark one" they cal me though I was born white) porque bajo el sol del verano yo me hice asi (because under the summer sun I became this way) morenika, graciosika sos morena yo, graciosa y hoxos pretos tu. ("dark one", pretty you are, dark and pretty am I, and black eyed are you.) morenika a mi me llaman los marineros si otra vez a mi me llaman me voy con ellos ("dark one" call me the sailors, if they call me again, I will go with them)
  • @seriouslyinsanediva

Thank You for the translation. THis makes the song mean more to me!

  • I'm not sure, but from the little hebrew and spanish, I think it says approximatly:

    My skin is dark

    I was born white

    And the sun darkened me

    My skin is dark

    And I'm graceful

    Dark is full of grace

It seems to me a ladino variation on the song of songs, 2 chapter: I'm black and beautiful, daughter of Jerusalem (...) Don't be scornful, the sun burnt me, etc.
