I had depression before I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid... But gaining 25kg added to it. Something that did happen shortly after diagnosis was I had a bout of extreme anxiety and panic attacks. I couldn't leave the house without having an attack. This lasted for about 2 months or so. In hindsight I know it was related to my hypothyroidism... But my doctor thought it was just me. There were times when yes, I thought I was going crazy.
I have super bad anxiety which has turned into depression. I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid this week and I feel like finally I can prove that I'm not going mad. My Mum noticed I hadn't been myself since I quit my job and lost interest in university. It all just fits now. I will be starting levothyroxine soon and pray that it makes me feel better x
good to know im not the only one! a few months ago i started feeling really depressed, started having reallyyyy bad anxiety and just generally felt like i was going nuts. typically the first thing the doctor did was prescribe me antidepressants. a few months later i got diagnosed with hashimotos. im in the same boat as you, i feel if they wouldve tested me for it from the start instead of shoving antidepressants down my throat, i wouldnt have ever gotten to this point.
I think I have this underactive thyroid because I feel tired and have put on weight. I'm feel so miserable all the time. This sucks but I havent been to the doctor. How do they diagnose you?
I've been tested a few times for thyroid problems because my nan, auntie and mum have suffered/ suffer from either over active or under active thyroids and luckily nothing ever comes up on the tests but I am always worried I have the problem or I will get either overactive or underactive thyroid problems because it is hereditary. But I know I suffer from depression/ self harm/ I have had issues with disordered eating etc. too so this video makes a lot of sense to me I think. Thanks
what is the T-4 you speak of? and how can i learn more about it? i am in the same exact boat you were in and i need to better myself. please any info will help
I have an underactive thyroid. I've been told eating disorders can bring on thyroid problems. I think that's what happened with me. And I think the depression, eating disorder and hypothyroidism all kind of work off of each other. They all relate somehow. Hope things are well! xo
I have been on medication for an underactive thyroid for about a week now and I feel a little better already to be honest. So now that your on meds for an underactive thyroid do you feel better?
@Aislan4414 Aww Im so glad you found a solution! I hope it works for you in the long run and its the end of a long hard road for you! Best of luck to you :)!
I was always having blood tests because of everything that was going on with food etc, and my mum requested I had a full blood count because they was doing certain tests and nothing was being picked up but my mum was adamant something wasnt right. So its a good job she did :)!
