I had written off the Stones (my favs).Usually the old tunes sound like crap. Mick doesn't sing in the same voice he used to. BUT, this is a great version. Mick sounds great, and the guitar interplay is FUNKY, lots of nice chords underneath (R. Wood?) and the feel is funkier with the slower tempo. They can't be the young Stones again, but this makes me curious to see more of the 1997 shows.

@crackernumber2 No, the Stones last sounded good many years ago. If you think they sound good now I suggest you visit a doctor and get him to check your ears out.
Stones sucks! Had to disband in 1970 straight after the Beatles did so.The Stones always plaguiarized The Beatles.Since there was no Beatles,The Stones slowly died.Old fags!
THE Rolling Stones and The Beatles were pretty much nothing alike! Perhaps in the very beginning when the Beatles were centered on a more R&B oriented sound, but the fact is that whereas the Beatles mostly strayed from the Blues, The Rolling Stones continued expounding on incorporating Blues influence into their music. Even though I like the Beatles, the Beatles were pretty much the vanguard band of the whole Hippy moving, whilst The Stones were about pure Rebellion (Pre-Punk) if you will.
In any case, Oasis was a band that did nothing more than exploit the media for their own commercial gain and notoriety. I personally think that Blur was the more innovative and original band of the whole 90's Brit Pop scene. In my opinion and that of many other colleagues of mine, THE SMITHS will always be the greatest band that came out of Manchester! Oasis were nothing more than conventional hard-rockers who employed a faux mod image.
wow, now,I'm telling you the truth, mate,I can't remember a single Smiths song.
Manchester? Try THE HOLLIES-class music and great melodies.
And 'bout Oasis-well,I can't agree with you.Did you meant the media was so silly to catch on a tricks by working class' lads with no experience in showbiz,or was ''Creation Records'' so smart?

The Stones are so very tired. WHy do they contunue playing these ancient songs? All the world needs is another version of "Satisfaction", or "Jumpin Jack Flash" If they wanted to be contemporary why not stick to the post seventies stuff?
I love the songs when Keith sings the back up. That's what the Stones are supposed to be. They were always a "warts and all" garage band. They're still great but the show is too polished. The rough edges suited them more.
Keith was answering questions/letters from fans for Q magazine in 1998, and one of the questions was: When was the last time you used smack? Keith answered very openly: 'Well, let see... At the beginning of this tour (Bridges) somebody offered me a taste of smack, just a taste... I took it. Because it's something I have to do, right? And I didn't like the itching and all that... but I took it to test myself.'
It's in print in Q magazine, 1998 or perhaps '99.

Doesn't hold a candle to the original version they use to perform in the '60s. The bass player looks lost or dis-interested.

Most songs they speed up live. Here they slowed it way down, I guess the early version was too fast for them in its original form.

An embarrassing parody of their former selves. A milky drink followed by an early night would do these posturing geriatrics a power of good.

@sail1948 i think they sound great...... i think you need to wipe that milky drink of your fucking face and go to bed.

Keith let him self go around this time. He let his hair go grey, and was back on the heroin.

Keith back on heroin in 1997? Shit. How long was he hooked again? During the whole tour or longer?
Keith himself told very openly in a interview for Q magazine (in 1998 or 1999) that at the beginning of the Bridges tour he 'had a taste' of smack.
