  • i don't get it, i have similar self injurious habits to jamies but mine are much briefer, and im not autistic, i was diagnosed with tourettes when i was little as well as ADD but that's about it, and whenever i search up self injurious behavior its almost always tied into autism, there's barely anything else aside from people who do it for attention and no ones around when my outbursts are triggered

  • @rhino2960 Tourettes is linked to dopamine dysfunction commonn among autistics who have severe self injurious behaviors...

  • 1:21 I like that boy. He reminds me of my uncle

  • I have aspergers and I'm looking for one of those chew necklaces. Where should I look?

  • @Chorus1432 Google "rep-cord band" and it will lead you to where you can order a box of chew tubes. Good luck!

  • The parents of this child are truly amazing! absolutely spectacular people... God bless you

  • There are a lot of soft restraints by companies like Posey that while not ideal perhaps would leviate some of the stress of his self injury. Of course its horrible on you and him to turn to restraints but it looks like at times he'd need them. I mean they even have ones that let you use your arms freely to a point, that he wouldn't really be restrained but his hands couldn't hit his head. or even soft mitts.

just a suggestion. again not ideal

  • I know exactly where you are coming from, I have a son who has the same behaviors and it is so hard and exhausting but he is my child. You are a precious person and you will be blessed for what you are doing.

As for norbyman2 he is a disgrace and didn't deserve a response from you!!!

  • It takes alot of patience to deal with behaviour that is self injurious like that. I don't know whether I can be that patient.

  • Your son is such a gorgeous boy. You do a great job with him and are a very loving mother xx

  • Hello, I have Aspergers (a form of autism) and I would like to make it very clear this person has VERY severe Autism as well as SIB and epilepsy. Autistic people alone are not like this. This person is truly disabled and is not in anyway a representation of this condition other than him being in his own world when it comes to thought.

  • @YTPchowder Yes, you are correct. There are plenty of higher functioning autistics out here and they are just as important as my son. However, my son's type of autism is so rarely seen in community that it warrants exposure to help educate those who are still in dark, about how autism comes in many forms and just because someone can't talk, hits self and may need 1:1 or 2:1 24/hr care to protect them, does not take away from the supports needed for less afflicted autistics and aspergers. Peace.

  • I saw under the comments in another of you videos that someone suggested medical Marijuana … I think it would really help with several issues. It would calm him, he’ll have happy / laughing moments & he’ll eat things he probably wouldn’t normally touch. I understand it’s probably illegal where your living, but the law doesn’t take into account these types of situations either, does it. God Bless you & your family.

  • @conduirty: Hospital nurses placed mitts on him. He bit them off. A behavioral experts suggested arm splints. He bent his arms until hands turned blue. But, yes, there are other medical splints, to immobilize arm. It's tricky, because he's strong and there's risk of him losing balance, cutting circulation...he really is 2:1 during extreme SIB, which is sometimes unpredicatable.

  • I am so blown away by your dedication to your son. We do love our boy with autism very much and give him our all, but we have not faced the severity you have. He is only 14 though. Thank you for sharing your efforts with others.

  • :( ..... god bless you for having patience, i will keep praying for both of you, god bless

  • When I was a child I was attacked by a dog. The doctor put something on my arms that would keep me from bending them at the elbow. They did'nt want me to touch my face. I wonder if something like that might help even a bit. If there were such a thing for a person your sons age?

  • @conduirty Thank you for suggestion. Yes, we did use arm splints, as per a behavioral specialist's plan to stop self abuse, but our son is so strong, even back then, that he would bend his arms until his hands turned blue. Also, is issue of using the splints as weapons on himself. Like yesterday, I gave him a hand held vibrator as part of DRI plan (differential replacement incompatible behaviors), well, 98% time, this is good, but yesterday he tried to slam vibrator into his throat. Yikes....

  • ppl are so cold here =[

but anyways if you do send ur child away do we are selfs have to pay ?

    or no ?

  • Sister, I learn from you! My seven year old is starting to hit himself when he is frustrated. At seven years old it's hard to leave the house unless going to therapy. My home is being destroyed. But I'd rather live this way then live without my child. Please, keep teaching!

  • Do you know what this song called 1:32-2:09

Do you know this song 1:10-1:20

  • @mgroenke3213

hold on tight to your dreams

    borderline - madonna

  • I dont speak very well english but i want to said you you are wonderful and no boody can't stay without love for you.

  • when is the time your son's sib will finally subside?

  • Time depends on who is there to stop him, his mood and strength...last night, he awoke from sound sleep slamming fists into head it took 3 people to keep his fists from his head and face...It's very hard, but better than doping him everytime he has a sib attack....it usually takes between 3-25 minutes to control EACH episode. Episodes can be 1-70 x a day....pro active interventions sometimes prevent the SIB attacks...physical intervention is always necessary to protect him from bodily injury

  • i love twilight

  • I can't believe you didn't have him institutionalized!!! He could beat someone to death, or most likely himself. He is a pathetic waste of my tax dollars!

  • Dearest Norb,

Here's a lesson for you: It costs YOU LESS because I keep my son home with me and OUT of an institution....that SAVES tax dollars as it costs upwards of 300, 000 a year to care for kids like mine in out of home placements...at home with me it costs 1/4 of that....

  • Oh sorry. My bad

  • and obviously whatever education you were given was a pathetic waste. But hey everyone is a bad ass on the internet.

  • @norbyman2 ... funding for Autism lacks horrifically. Autism is the fastest growing childhood disease out there, above childhood diabetes, cancers, and MD. If you're so worried about your tax dollars go check out how much funding is applied to those causes, and then you'll understand why some, have had to turn to governmental help. Not to imply you were aware of any of this as your comment, is an appharent manifestation of your ignorance. Save yourself the embarassment don't comment.

  • @norbyman2 Hum...Sounds like a fear based old school response...I am higher functioning, but I do self-mutilate and struggle to stop the repetitiveness of it, pain isn't something that is felt to the degree it should be felt for those with autism or spectrum issues... according to your logic I myself should be put away and am a 'pathetic waste' of your tax monies...Excuse me while I vomit in disgust...PS. A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare. Proverbs 15:1 NLT
