  • Hi, just wanted to say thanks for sharing your knowledge. I was thinking about canning until I watched your 10 videos and I have now changed my mind. Dehydrating seems much easier, although the initial investment would cost a little, the money seems worth it with much less risk too.

I can't wait to get a dehydrator lol.

    Thanks again.

  • As long as sugar does not get wet, it can be stored indefinitely. You can just simply put it in a regular ziploc bag.

  • I have made jerkys in my dehyrater, other than that its pretty much set on shelf out in garage..NO MORE thanks to watching your videos. Thank you for all the time spent showing how benificial it is and easy to use.

  • Thanks a lot for your effort!

Your videos are great and I enjoy them a lot and I can learn a lo :)

I would like to bring one argument and a proposal and I hope you will appreciate it.

Argument is that the people has to eat more raw and as I know escalibor can help the food to be dehydrated on low temperature in which the enzimes will not day. The minimum is 60% raw. I lost already 10kg and I improved significant my health.

Because of this my proposal is to make video about raw dehydr.

    RGDs :)

  • This the best series of videos on Youtube on food prep and storage. Thank you!

  • I'm a new fan for life! ..these are the best videos I've ever seen! thanks so much for all your time and trouble. I have been canning for the past 2 years and recently bought the Excal and love it. Am just learning - that's how I found you! Question: Can you re-use the canning lids once you open or do you need to replace with a new one like you do in canning?

  • is there any way to dehydrate my own butter and cheese?

  • Do you treat Avacados with lemon juice as well?

  • Hi, I just got through watching 9 or 10 of your videos. Thank you for what you are doing. Great videos! I have a dehydrator. I used it a few times to make beef jerky. You have inspired me to try some other things.

  • excellent series. i just recieved my first excaliber dehydrator and cant wait to get started. thanks to your videos i have s ome references to go back to if i get stuck dehydrating something

  • Girl, you are a God sent! I'm sure your videos are going to save a lot of lives. THANK YOU!!!!

  • Great series! would choose a different flavor of music though. :)

  • I had bought my excalibur from the factory, no problems at all. Warrenty might not be honored if bought from another supplier.

  • Can you stir fry your your dehydrated veggies? How do the vegies turn out if you do stir fry them?

  • Great rapid fire series!

  • I want to thank you for these great videos, I purchased my ex caliber dehydrator a couple of years ago and have not used it yet like it needs to be used. I now am very excited to get to work ! You have really helped answer a lot of questions I had!

  • Very impressed and i may now be converted

  • I walked into a consignment shop yesterday and saw a food dehydrator. I said what the heck and bought it. When I got it home I realized that it's brand new. It's a 5 tray Ronco that was originally price at $129, I bought it for $20. I've now watched all 10 of your demos -- I'm sold. I'm starting a 350 Eco home. I'm inviting single women to live in the home due to the difficult times and I want to incorporate gardening, canning and dehydrated foods. I'm very grateful to you for sharing. Thx

  • Thanks very much for your very informative sieries of videos. I found you thru Down to Earth blog site in Australia.

  • what temp do you do scrambled eggs

  • I don't know about all of Honeyville's products, but I've noticed that at least a few of their products contain sodium silico aluminate. This is a form of aluminum that can have grave health effects, especially along the lines of Alzheimer's disease. While I would use the product for a short period of time, I wouldn't recommend people using them for a long period of time, especially when unnecessary. I agree with 'eat what you store,' this might be an exception and not for frequent/often usage.

  • an excellent series! I watched all 10 and really enjoyed them all, especially how you show the before and after looks, cooked/vrs uncooked. You really thought these through, well done!

  • Absolutely wonderful videos. Thanks for posting 5*

  • Don't go to the Canning Pantry to get your Dehydrator either, I had a very bad experience, the first one I got was broken and I had to get through Heck to get another one, I had to contact Excalibur itself to get it replaced.

  • Hi Pippie2010va

I am not aware of any LDS Cannery selling Dehydrators, could it be another Cannery?

  • @Pippie2010va

I am not aware of any LDS Cannery selling Dehydrators, could it have been a different Cannery?

  • Sugar will last forever as long as it stays dry. You do not need O2 absorbers.

I use my left over Maxwell or folgers coffee tins to hold my sugar.

  • I went to LDS and bought oxygen packs and mylar bags After i repacked my bulk items i sealed the oxygen packs with the sealer and was surprised that there seems to be air in the bag weeks later there were probably 20 or so absorbers left. Are they still good? How do you store your extra absorbers i have also put them in a canning jar like you said and it wasn't sealing either? it was several days later Can you get sick if food is not dehydrated enough? I am kind of worried about that

  • Hi Toby,

I think the oxygen absorbers @ the cannery are 300 cc, thats a good strong absorber and should do a better then average job. What happen is the absorber went bad do to a leek in the bag (my guess). Oxygen absorber need to be vacuumed seal as soon as possible. First fill all your bags or jars then add all the absorbers need, then vacuum seal the remaining.

  • Never worry about over drying it is under drying that will spoil your food. You will know if the food is bad do to the mold growing on it. You will know when the food is completely dried when you break or tear a piece open. Good idea to leave in zip bags for a couple of days and look for condensation on the bags until you build confidents in your dehydrating. If you do find condensation on the bags then toss the food back in the dehydrator. Hope I helped. Tammy

  • when we can sugar at the church cannery, they tell us not to put oxygen packs in with sugar because they will turn into bricks. That is just what I have been told.

  • Hi Kimseablemyers,

Yes, people at the cannery have stated not putting oxygen absorbers in the sugar when storing. However, I do use them in my sugar and have not had a problem with the sugar turning into a brick. Some of the sugar I use has been stored for 3 years. The only dry packing I do not use oxygen absorber in is salt because it will not attract parasites. Hope I have helped. Tammy

  • A friend of mine sent me this video a few days ago (didn't get it until last night) and I just PANICKED as I had just ordered a dehydrator from Harvest Essentials a week ago! Thankfully it arrived today but it's sure taught me to research carefully before spending that kind of money online!

  • Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! You're helping all of us prepare for the future. I've bought from Honeyville in the past - they have always provided excellent products.

  • Does Honeyville supplies to UK? Thank You!

  • Please go to our web site Dehydrate2store and enter our free give away of a

9 tray Excalibur Dehydrator. All entries must be in by Dec.21, 2009 we will video tape the drawing. Also, you will find many more video, tips and recipes so spread the word and tell your friends. Good luck and Merry Christmas to all. Tammy

  • Your series is great. Thank you for spending all the time it must have taken to share your experience with us

  • I've watched all 10 video's and want to thank you so very much.

  • You're the best!!! thanks

  • thank you for all your valuable information on preparing our garden for what is coming. This is much easier than canning as I have been doing for years. Keep up the good work, I look forward to your next post. sn4341

  • Thank you so much for the life saving information on your site. I have now passed this on to all my family and we are all dehydrating instead of canning all our garden produce. I encourage you to keep up the good work and help us in this time of crucial need to be prepared. Thanks, sn4341

  • Great videos. We have also been preparing, but I haven't done a lot of my own dehydrating. What do you do with the oranges? Do you do anything with the banana chips, other than eat as is? Frozen corn-wow. Do you dehydrate any thing else that is frozen like broccoli, cauliflower, peas, berries, etc.? FYI for others out there, you can check into a co-op like something better natural foods to buy in bulk and save money.

  • Hi 135Kam,

    Thank you.

You take all your frozen fruits and vegetable and dehydrate them. Just throw them on the tray frozen. Some of the frozen fruits that are on the mushy side can be mashed up and put on a plastic storage bag then dehydrated. You can even do frozen hash browns, French fries. Just throw them on the tray frozen.

What good co-op would you recommend?

  • New to this, will try to post response again. Either, I replied in the wrong spot, or it got lost somehow.

  • I use Something Better Natural Foods for bulk items like grains, rice, sugar, honey, salt, buckets, etc. They are Seventh Day Adventist, so they are storage minded. Start your own group or see if they have one in your area. $450 minimum order.

  • I use Frontier Coop for tea, herbs, spices, broth powders, etc. $10 member fee gets your group wholesale pricing, or see if they already have a group near you. Many items come in mylar bags. Slit bag, vac seal food w/absorber, insert back into bag and reseal. Hope this helps!

  • I want to let you know that my Son and I just completed a hand full of videos that will be down loaded this week. And in those video I dehydrated frozen hash browns and re- hydrate then cook them up. You will be amazed on how perfect they look , how good they taste and how quick it was.

    Again, thanks.

    Tammy

  • Marvelous series!

  • I just watched all of your videos - 1 thru 10, and I'm so excited! As a gardener who spends lots of time canning our food, this looks like a much more practical option. I am also working to stock a food pantry for the very same reasons you expressed in video 3.

Just wondering if you have a website ..? I have a blog where I plan to be talking about your videos and the importance of food storage. I can either point people here to your videos, or if you have a website, I'll direct them there.

  • Hi denebrock,

I'm always thrilled when more people start to dehydrate and build their pantry. This is one of smartest things a person can do right now. I promise you will save tons of money and time when preparing meals. People think I cook all day long when I make meals and it only take me mins. They won't believe it until they see and taste it for themselfs.

  • I just received my Excalibur from FedEX, can't wait to get started. I have Celiac disease and cannot have; gluten, caesen, rice, corn, potatoes, sugar, and much more. I am excited about dehydrated as it will allow me to save tons of money as well giving me an opportunity to help out others with the same dietary restrictions.

My question is, where do you purchase your oxygen packs? I have looked through the videos several times and cannot seem to find it.

Thank you so much for the information!

  • digital...I was told the same thing at the cannery I went to.

  • Just an FYI - if you use oxygen absorbers with Sugar you run the risk of your sugar solidifying or getting lumpy and hard like old brown sugar would.

  • Hi digital,

I found that just vacuum packing alone causes the sugar to clump the same as with the oxygen packs. I think it breaks up extremely easy. Even if you store sugar for a long time without vacuum packing or oxygen packs it clumps. I guess what I am trying to say is that I have never noticed any different. Where did you hear this from? Thanks, Tammy

  • I was told this at the cannery when I was dry packing sugar.

  • Thank you so much for sharing your abundance of knowledge with us - very inspiring. Well Done!

    God Bless You!

  • What a blessing your videos are - thank you so much for taking the time to do all of this work and give so freely of your time and energy. God Bless.

  • Thank you so much. That is my son Steven, he has a heart as big as all out doors. I was so nervous when I started doing this and Steven was my encouragement. I also have 3 other children who are just as wonderful. Again thank you, your message will make him smile.

  • GREAT VIDEOS! Thank you so much for putting out this excellent information on dehydrating. In these very uncertain times we need people with all types of skills to educate others as to how to take care of themselves and their families. Thank you so much for taking the time to educate the rest of us on the subject of dehydrating!

  • Thank you so much for your videos! I've used my dehydrator for raw foods and some other things I've eaten right away. Now I'm really excited to get started adding to my pantry.

  • I am big on herbal remedy teas you can make from plants in your own back yard.

Everyone has been so kind. I have been replying directly to the people via email and not posting in the comment section. So it looks like I am not answering people questions. I just want people to know I do answer all my questions and if one falls between the cracks please email me again.

Once again thank you Debbie and everyone else,

    Tammy

  • Thanks so much for sharing! You have truly inspired me. I have been looking in canning, but I think I will go one step further into dehydrating! There are still things that would need canning such as jellies and jams, so any videos with that would be great. I don't remember if you covered okra, what would you recommend for dehydrating okra?

    Thanks,

    Debbie

  • Hi Debbie,

Thank you for the kind words, it also inspires me . I would blanch or lightly steam the okra same with cabbage. However, I would not do anything to my spinach, collards, dandelions, herbs, onions. What I should do is make a list up for everyone and post it.

Yes, I canned jams, jellies and much more. I will be doing more videos in about 2 weeks with more dishes. I will try to put a page together for people to down load.

  • A list would be w.o.n.d.e.r.f.u.l! Do you have the recipes posted somewhere? I love your series, thank you so much for sharing - you are the inspiration I needed! Thank you!!!

  • I love your videos! I have some oranges going in my dehydrator as I type! Could you do a video on meat? like ground beef or chicken, I want to know how to do it safely, thanks! :)

  • You are awesome. I watched the whole series. Valuable insights, save me a bunch of time. Now I can prepare for the end of the world.... or life as we know it. Oh well its an obamanation now, what can you expect.

  • Thank you so much for these videos. Seems many are having the same thoughts on stocking a pantry. You are really making a difference!

  • I thank you for sharing your knowledge with all of us. I just found your site today and watched all of your videos. I was completely blown away! What a powerful ministry! BRAVO!!!!!!!

  • Welp... the writing was on the wall and I didn't really prepare as much as I'd hoped. Just had my pay cut IN HALF and was put on notice to "look for another job". I only recieved this minor "stay of excecution" by being VERY tight with the CEO. People, START PREPARING! START STORING FOOD NOW!!! AS MUCH AS YOU CAN!!! Right now I have a ton of food, but not a whole lot of dried fruits and veggies cuz I just got started, and I'll be eating plain beans and rice soon cuz its all I got/ JUST DO IT!

  • MORE MORE MORE PLEASE !!!!!!!!

  • Round of applause for dehydrate2store, thanks for your help! ***** Stars

  • Lake Tahoe girl here, thanks for the shout out! We've really enjoyed learning from you and look forward to your videos. You've taught us so much and hopefully our pantry will be full soon. Blessings.

  • The Lake Tahoe Girls want to thank you! Your videos have been so informative and have really got us on the road to food preservation. We girls, just a few of us, like to get together and do these things together. It has been a lot of fun pulling up your videos as we attempt to learn to use our new talents. Each of us bought an Excaliber. Thanks for the fun...YOUR FANS!

  • Me too!!!!!!!!!

  • Absoulutely love these videos! Please show more on cooking with dehydrated foods. What can you do with dehydrated cheese?

    Eva

  • You've inspired me to dust off the dehydrator!! Thanks for putting these videos out...great job!!

  • I kept waiting for these to come out - love the recipes - can't wait to try them especially the bread that looked absolutely delicious.

And I agree - you need to have your own show !!! Your video series are awesome!! At the very least you really need to market them - I love the all the tips and tricks you give - for a beginner being able to to see how the food should look when it is done dehydrating is invaluable as are the tips for storing - Thanks again - will there be any more??? :)

  • I am so glad your back, I have been dehydrating everything I can get my hands on...LOL. Was wondering about my cauliflower, but mine looks just like yours so I guess Im good to go...LOL. Thanks for you very informative videos.

  • you should really have your own cooking show, I mean i had like the biggest smile on face when seeing the results, looks delicious!!

  • what a great set of vids...thank you so much for taking the time out of your life to share with us your expertise. see ya...

  • I buy from Honeyville too -- you can't beat their shipping costs, even if their product price isn't the cheapest out there, the quality is there and you save with the shipping. I vacuum seal my Ball jars instead of using the oxygen absorbers. I have a question: If you open a jar, do you have to put in a new oxygen absorber, or can they last through 3-4 "openings". Thanks!
