hahaha Touareg + Bluemotion Technology is a good joke :D it's like that eletrical hummer, schwarzenegger is driving to show his economical conscience.
@assailant85 imho some cars supposed to be funny. Not Touareg, of course, especially with bluemotion techology. My Touareg 3,2 takes about 20 litres per 100 km, thats not funny at all I can say :)
@Spyster007 sorry, but there is no way that this car in real life needs 6,5 litres on 100km. my golf VI with the most efficient engine and gear box needs 5-6l driving 110-130km/h and I think that's the best you can have for a non-diesel.
6.5 diesel on the other hand on 100km is a LOT compared to small diesels. I mean, I love this car, but I think pretending to be an ecological car is just wrong by VW ;)
@assailant85 6.5 liters on 100 km is possible, 7 liters is easily achievable. I own several tdi's and my most efficient tdi NB averages 4.5 liters on 100 km. It's all in how you drive it. The touareg is actually a socially responsible vehicle.
@Spyster007 Maybe 6.5 is possible - driving constantly and downhill. But according to spritmonitor.de, a portal where lots of users post their fuel consumption over long periods, the usual consumption is over 11 l / 100km. the "best" consumption is 8,69l/100km. Also, TDI = DIESEL, which has much worse exhaust gases.
quick comparison: VW Golf, average consumption 5,75l/100km (HALF!!) Diesel and 7,7l/100km benzine. note that golf is usually used more downtown.
@assailant85 yes your looking at the consumption for the pre 2011 model, which was heavier and used more fuel, plus that one was rated at 8.0 on the hwy, the new one will easily get 6.5 liters on 100 km once broken in, I plan on beating those numbers with mine. I have had combined averages of 3.9-4.5 liters for the last 450,000 km on my tdi. Pulling numbers off a site is great in theory but it's much better to get ur own numbers. Btw tdi's put out less CO than gas engines amoung other gases..
@Spyster007 hey, it's great that u were able to save so much fuel and also drove 450 000km with your tdi. but to be honest, those numbers are very unrealistic to me, I don't believe them. I don't even think that an engine can last 450k km. I trust more in the average of hundreds of numbers from this german site.
Also, TDI (=diesel) actually put MORE (14%) CO² into the air, not less! you're wrong about that.
Golf VI Bluemotion, combined consumption: 3,8l/100km. That's a socially responsible car
@assailant85 diesel put out less Co2 than gasolines for the simple reason that they burn up to 40% less fuel than a compareable gasoline engine, yes diesel contains more energy per gallon than gasoline 14% but even if you take that into consideration the diesel still puts out 26% less Co2.
@Spyster007 I think you can't make it so easy ;) Look at the new TSI engines, they are nothing else than all the progress that has been made for diesel engines only transfered to benzine engines. I think if engineering concentrates more on benzine engines, they can easily beat the diesels. the TSI is pretty close to a TDI if you compare it in detail (meaning the same performance and rpm). I don't say that I'm against diesels though!
@assailant85 Most of the unregulated toxic gaseous emissions tend to be lower for diesel engines. For example, benzene (which is a known carcinogen) is lower in diesels x10 than an equivalent gasoline engine. Diesels also tend to be significantly lower in emissions of alkenes ,carbonyls and semivolatiles like polyaromatic hydrocarbons.
@assailant85 yes your correct Diesels put out more NoX but with Particulate filters and SCR systems the noX emissions are cut down to almost nothing, don't forget Direct injection Gasoline engines like the TSI engines tend to put out more NoX than a regular gasoline engine because of the higher burn temperatures. Call me bias but I love the diesels. :-) That doesn't mean that tsi are bad engines. But for such a big vehicle the diesel is the way to go.
@Spyster007 you said it, it's a big car and coming back to my original comment: it's too big ;) If you have the chance, try a Golf VI 1,4 TSI DSG with 122 horse powers only. It drives like a Diesel, I promise! But you can have 6500rpm if you want :D
0-100 is 1 sec slower but driving in the city it's much more fun to see the low consumption on the display!
English: Yes, it is said to be 2011 version, but that`s more in the States. Here, in Europe, we don´t usually name a car with a year that has not yet arrived. Thanks for your comment anyway. ;)
Español: Sí, se dice que es la versión 2011, pero eso es más en los Estados Unidos. Aquí, en europa, no solemos llamar a un vehículo con el nombre de un año que todavía no ha llegado. Gracias por el comentario de todos modos. ;)
