The English word guitar, the German gitarre, and the French guitare were adopted from the Spanish guitarra, which comes from the Andalusian Arabic قيثارةر qitara, itself derived from the Latin cithara, which in turn came from the Ancient Greek κιθάρα kithara, and is thought to ultimately trace back to the Old Persian language. Tar means string in Persian.
Hey sick improv man. I was just wonderin if the tuning really is DADGBD (double drop d?) cause when I try playing the intro when you do that finger rolling it seems like the b string should be tuned differently. Anyways great playing man
@ACobsessed people dont understand that there are going to be extremists in every culture, race, or religion around the world. They are just so close minded, that they cant, or dont want to understand other perspectives from people that are different than them.
To me, this is the tradition that made it's way to Spanish culture the most during and after the occupation by the Moors from 712-1492. The music. Arabic guitar and Spanish/Flamenco guitar are so close in nature, because Spanish guitar is really just a style broken from the Arabic style and scales and modes. Both are beautiful.
Its interesting to call any part of another person's actions evil, when they have strong feelings about what they believe and wish to accomplish. Just as everyone else does, they don't commit violence for the sake of "evil" like a cartoon villain, I think that the only way to actually achieve some sort stable ground is through the respect of an enemy instead of dehumanizing. after all rebel, freedom fighter, pirate, and terrorist are the same thing. Love this style of guitar, any lyrics soon?
This is beautiful. Are there any tunings that are used most often in Middle Eastern guitar? I just posted a song of mine that's a kind of Arabic-Celtic mix - "Rosetta West - Yallah." I've always loved Middle Eastern guitar playing, but I want to learn more.
@ACobsessed It is really sad indeed, but people from Islam really need to get their shit together (excuse the language). I am not really concerned about terrorism, but I am appalled at the way many women are treated in most Muslim countries, under the eyes of authorities. Moderate Muslims should become more active in their own societies and start changing things. If you just complain that you are misunderstood, but don't do anything about it, nothing is going to change.
I hate racism and the judging of a culture down to certain groups of idividuals, Muslim or not I find The Arabic culture interesting and magnificent on historic references. You know just because you see gangs commiting terrorism acts you judge a whole nation but let me tell you also that Christianity and catholic are no goodies aswell just look at our crimes in history.
@ZachForgives that is true, but remember that it only takes a minority to ruin an entire culture, what we see on the news are only the great evils, there places very peacefull and uncorrupted in the arab world, we just have to find more of it.
@ZachForgives . thanks man , um arabian teen and alot of people in the world didn't see our civilization her,btw um egyptian and here w have great culture but i don know why the world say that we are terrorsits and i appreciate that u can understand that we are creative nations and u can know about egypt and u will discover that we can be like europe and america . al slam 3alikom
@ZachForgives Ok my friend but not ALL people are zealots...I think its better not to paint all Arab people with the same brush..The history of the Spanish conquistadores in Latin America is worth readtng.
@THESKUXXPRODUCTIONS it's because flamenco comes from Andalusia, a region that used to be ruled by Arabs during their invasion into Spain in the 8th century
@shypolar This does not seem unique to Arabs. It seems people in most cultures have little interest in their classical traditions. It is so often eclipsed by the commercial, 'pop' styles.
On the other hand, its also interesting how many people take interests in classical forms from other cultures -- e.g., westerners who take serious interests in classical 'eastern' musics ranging from Arabic and Persian to Indian forms, while people from those cultures all seem to want pop western forms.
