  • This hymn was deticated to Mother of God after the successfull defense of Constantinople against the Avars in 626AD.

The hymn praises Mother of God as the supreme and undefeated General and it mentions that the city of Constantinople is HER's.

  • Que hermoso!!

Me gusta que las iglesias mantengan esa tradición y solemnidad que le dan los coros a las ceremonias religiosas, en especial cuando logran una atmósfera como la que este coro genera.

  • Very wonderful video...

    Greetings..

  • yes i have all i feel is that gregorian chants are not as pure and beutiful as orhtodox it isnt as nice it seems as if i dont feel the holy spirit in the chant of gregorian style as much as orthodox. what is the opus dei?

  • the thing is is that im gay you orthodox christians may not accept me but iv'e had visions of heaven things i can not explain and i heard the words there is no suffering sadness or sorrow. i was a pagan but im happier with jesus:)

and yes every time i hear some byzantine chants i some times cry i cant explain it at all its different. especially the cherbuic hymns. thanks for saying my soul and heart is good it means a lot:)i only follow the words of jesus and no others.

  • Im catholic you guys must be orthodox. but it isnt the denomination we follow that makes the body of christ its the power of individuals...

this chant almost braught a tear to my eyes... i have no clue why but my heart did...

  • catholicism is very good, but come to orthodoxy, go on your knees and pray god he will show you the way, your eyes wept because yout heart is good and your soul understand the words even though your brain doesn t

  • @ramses0101 The beauty of Orthodoxy is the unchanging church. The first church was 1 church. Even the catholic church was the same both theologically and doctrine wise. Over the years the Catholic faith has altered theology and has changed to become more P/C. Jesus said he would send his followeres out like sheep among wolves. So if you have no wolves in your life, can you say that you are sheep of God? The church is not of this world and should not change with the times.

  • ti impermaxo, are greek words..but yes this is Vozbranoe Voedvodje!:)

  • I guess it's "Vzbrannoy Voyevode", kontakion of Mother of God, does anybody can tell am I right or wrong?

  • PLEASE somebody tell me what is that chant in English? You don't need to translate, 'cos I know the service, just tell me what troparion or stikhira is that, first words. I like that chant very much and I want to sing it in Slavonic. Thank you.

  • the Kontakion "Τῆ Ὑπερμάχῳ" is the most famous part of a whole Orthodox Service called Ἀκάθιστος Ὕμνος, A Hymn thanking the Virgin that is performed with all people Standing, not seated. "to you, Supreme General, I your town attribute the victory"

This last part was composed and first executed spontaneously in 626 AD in Constantinople, when people in the Vlachernaí Church gave thanks to the Virgin for rescuing her Capital from the Avars, by sinking their ships by a storm in the Vósporus.

  • Awsome ! Great Job ! May God Bless You all, and stay true to your faith, I am sure our Lord is proud.Praise him and venerate his mother daily.

  • FANTASTIC! WELL DONE!!!

  • This is very good chanting, Ti Ypermaho is the best, when is slowly play.

    sory for my english.

  • lovely.. indeed, it is great so see that our Church has so widespread wings.. wonderfull work! may God's love and mercy be with you all brothers! love from Romania

  • People are saying this song was about the Panaghia assisting Constantinople against the Turks, but I believe this is wrong. I remember being taught that it was the Avars. This song pre-dates the turkish onslaught by many years. And who cares anyway, it is about the Panaghia coming to us in the time of need. Let's stop talking about Turks, politics and such. The Turks are good enough to come these sites and tell us how beautiful our songs are.

  • That's right. Orthodoxy is all about loving people even if they are our enemies. We should spread the love all around us, like the holy fathers did. Only then we could have the Divine grace in our hearts. God said: "Love one each other as I loved you", so our love in Christ should be the one directing our way to God and our salvation.

  • Hola a todos! Que lindo rever esto! Fue un muy lindo concierto! Sé que he estado perdida del coro, pero ahora con el fin de la U, voy a volver!! Lindo recuerdo!! :D

  • the is very beautifuly done!

  • thank you very much,

    :)

  • This is very Hymn sung in constantinopal when they beat back the turks! thanking the mother of God and prasing the chapion!

  • exactly...

There are versions telling that the turkish boats were distoyed by a strong storm, just befor the battle. So because of that the greeks sung to the theotokos, how helped them to defeat the enemies.

We have the spanish version too, but not record yet.
