really nice even with the puffed cheeks thats the best sound Ive ever heard from someone who does that usually it sounds stuffy there are points in the video where it does sound stuffy but its an easy fix if you want to fix it and the stance for the first bone part seems a little tense like "marching band" style posture but still sounds really nice wish I had the second bone part to maybe get with one of my friends and play it together

@OMGedInStoresNearYou Yeah jazz trombonist puff their cheeks for a reason, and he definately doesnt puff his cheeks out all the time. Plus in the real world, if you were to go to an open audition, they would look at your embouchure as well as playing.

sometimes its hard to hit low notes without puffing cheeks out..i dont puff my cheeks out on high notes but on low i almost have to because my lips get so loose i just let the air flow..thats on tuba also so i dont know if it be diff havent played trombone in i think 6 years

Because its a bad habit....slipknot555133 explains it good, but still i rarely puff out my cheeks, the duet was amazing and stuff, but it looks bad and is a bad habit to puff out your cheeks. Well again maybe the reason is my band director is strict about it, so i learned when i 1st started playing.

puffing your cheeks doesn't really make a difference, it's all about preference.

I used to puff my cheeks out while playing trombone particularly for lower notes. By working with a mirror I become conscious of when I do this and worked to correct it. I feel that as a result my intonation and focus have improved.

@ES942 It flattens the note a hair, but if your used to it it shouldnt be a problem, just make some things a little harder.

i understand, unfortunately dizzy had sugery because of his cheeks. if it was an appearance every teacher in the world wouldn't say "DON'T PUFF YOU CHEEKS". but it's not about appearance, so they do say that.

He puffs his cheeks because i'ts what he is used to. He knows that it is a bad habit but it is too late to change it.  However he is one of the best musicians i know. If you don't like it close your eyes.

Its never too late to puff the cheeks, its just something you have to work on constantly. I know people who have been playing for 40 years more than he and they can still change their habits. great performance tho:)

It''s not too late to change anything... and unfortunately that sort of thing is apparent not only visually but also in how it sounds. lack of focus in embouchure= lack of clarity.
