it stems back to the 91 all star game at Chicago Stadium where everyone cheered soo loud that you could not here the soloist. From then on, it became tradition

absolutely. they're trying in chicago...but look at some of the youtube vids from chicago stadium, there's absolutely no comparison. hockey left for good when chicago stadium, foley, messmer, even harvey wittenberg and frank pellico all left. it's not the same anymore.
