More like Commodore "Sexy-Four." When you have 30 years to play with a piece of technology with the right minds behind it, it's amazing what can still be created with it. There are so many nuances to it's design and capabilities that can't be captured anywhere else. Viva la C64!
Nobody ever posted the extended-run area of this disk program. Glad you did though. But I'd like to point out your SID sounds different than the other SIDs I've heard running this program.
From my personal experience, every SID chip sounds different. 6581 and 8580 however are worlds apart in this demo: try listening to the Mermaid gallery theme if you can (Dunes K Remix by Jeff aka Soren Lund) in both chips.
It depends - I own eight C64's and one C128. Apart from that I also have a Hardsid Quattro board with four SID's - three 6581 and one 8580. I believe this demo sounds better in a 6581.
wow - the c64 had white noise. I didn't know that. The SID is something special.
There's a lot of music now going with that retro electronic sound - personally I love it and I think your tracks are very well put together. Must take a lot of time and work. Do you have software to make the SID programming easier?
I unfortunately had nothing to do with code programming, music composition or art design in this demo. Your best bet is Goat Tracker - excellent tool albeit a tad non user friendly. There are some visual trackers on the C64 though (Cybertracker, etc).
Sure is. :) The SID chip in all its revisions handles three channels, plus one later discovered, non-documented sound channel capable of generating white noise.
The "4th" channel exists because when you change the volume register, there's a loud pop, meaning that you can get 4-bit digitized sound by changing that register around 6-7000 times/second.
Are there any C64 demos that try to get 12-bit digitized sound through modulating the the SID chips 12-bit variable Pulse width parameter? Another bonus of doing this is that your sound will pass through the SIDs analog, configurable filters...
this should be on amiga 1200 ..anyway i cant believe this is done with early 80s pc :D

One of the best demos. C64 rulez!
Expanding capabilities of hardware is nothing when coders can't use it in 100% min.
C64's coders did more than 200%.

Impressive stuff! The C64 is one wicked computer. Hard to believe it's an almost 30 years old machine!

f**king amazing
I grew up in the ninties and the c64 was some mystry computer that was only used by friends who's older brothers/sisters had one.
When ever I saw pic of a c64 in action is was rather crude, I had no idea something like this could be done.

Absolute overdrive for the humble C64.
The music, composition and nuances. I even hear a reverb and echo generated in software. Stunning SID music.
The graphics, dozens of colors the C64 isn't even supposed to make. The artwork is amazing.
Legend!

Unbelievable, Really! That they were able to do this on a C64 with 16 colors just blows my mind.

Was this recorded on a 6581 R2 or R3? Just wondering.
McKottfars 4 years ago
Since most of the chips of these revision are unmarked we have to guide ourselves by the dates. I'm guessing this is a R3 chip.

Are you using a C64 with a 6581 or an 8580?

if that is the SID chip doing all the sound - then I'm impressed.
Can you get more channels than 3? If so - what technique are you using.
Good work.
