  • OK so i kill 80,000 zombies in dead rising. i don't go around thinking that people are zombies and start killing them. or with call of duty i don't go around with a gun thinking its war time and start killing people.

  • I Just shot somone in the testical in a violent game.

I Feel no impulse to kill somone for no fucking reason.

  • emotion? well did you think for one second that "emotion" implies "adrenaline" not "anger" or "hate" but maybe just excitment?

  • Your blaming Video Games? War Games and violent games like that teach kids how to fight. Maybe one day when a war or an Acopylpse happens, kids will protect their family and thereself! Video Games arent bad! You know whats bad? Your crappy opinioms! THINK THINGS THROUGH! IM 11! I JUST PWNED 30 YEAR OLD N00B NEWS ANCHORS!

  • fallout!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Jcoch01 LOL

  • 1:10 i can belive some people got so emotional on gta san andreas that has more like cartoon graphics

  • Yay. Go for the Win

  • It's tricky how the brain works... Certain things cause different parts of the brain to work for different people.

  • It's comun I want to kick you?

  • ur face affects my brain

  • This shit is sooo opinion changing!!!!! Wtf!!!! Compair that shit with watching tv!!!!

  • She says "Ma-tore" and they said they were going to interview "The video game industry"? Fucking idiots.

  • @utoob251 hahahhahhahaha i heard that 2 when she said tht

  • u people are fuckin ridiculous they make it seem like if u play M rated games ur gonna grow up being the next Jason Voorhes

  • well bovius ffs if sum1 kills u in idk call of duty of course u get pissed off lol

it dsnt make u flip out and go on a killingspree

  • Are there even any games out there that are rated A?

  • So what if video games make people more comfortable with the sight of violence? That doesn't neccesarily only produce a negative outcome on the youth. There are many occupations in real life that may be less troubleing to someone who grew up on violent games, I dont see what the fuss is about. The bottum line is that there will always be violence in movies and games, as well as other forms of entertainment. It is simply not in the realm of possibility to change that, so why argue about it?

  • violent games teach young people to solve problems the selfish way—simply eliminate the enemy! Hardly an attitude that fosters love!, the U.S. surgeon general warned that video games posed a threat to young people. He said: “Everything is zap the enemy. There’s nothing constructive in the games.” A letter to The New York Times noted that many video games “pander to the basest instincts of man” and added: “They are cultivating a generation of mindless, ill-tempered adolescents.”

  • @meheale Lol.. I grew up on resident evil, parasite eve, currently play dead space, occasionally enjoy a little grand theft auto, and I turned out just fine. This whole mess about it screwing kids up in the head is a bunch of trash. Personaly I think it's a little funny that people assume violent games produce mindless killers..

  • Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, video- and computer-game violence may be even more dangerous than violence shown on television or in films, since the player identifies himself with the characters carrying out the violence. Television can make us spectators of violence; computer games can make us feel like participants. Furthermore, a movie may take a child only a couple of hours to watch, but a child may spend up to 100 hours mastering a typical video game.

  • Military psychologist David Grossman, author of the book On Killing, claims that violence in computer games trains children in the same way that military training teaches soldiers to overcome their inborn resistance to killing. For example, the military discovered that it was possible to break down this reluctance in a large percentage of people in the infantry simply by replacing the normal bull’s-eye targets with man-shaped targets during shooting practice.

  • This study monitored the heart rate and emotional response of participants to filmed episodes of actual violence shown to them immediately after they had played either violent or nonviolent video games. The results showed that those “who play violent video games habituate or ‘get used to’ all the violence and eventually become physiologically numb to it.”

  • “Exposure to violent video games can desensitize individuals to real-life violence,” say research psychologists at Iowa State University, U.S.A. Previous studies showed that exposure to such games “increases aggressive thoughts, angry feelings, physiological arousal and aggressive behaviors.”

  • So the whole industry makes all the games and they're rated

M for mator ??? Idiots the news always fucks everything up because they're stupid

  • we tryed to talk to the gaming industrie?? WHAT that whould be tlike saying we talked to the movie industrie wtf lol

  • 'But the gaming industry, which declined our request for an interview' So apparently, all video games are made by the same group of people? gg.

  • My cats are fighting again. I think they're playing too much tekken.

  • NFS Carbon a non violent racing game!!?? Do you know how many traffic rules i violated in the first 30min of that game? Jeez. They should play games like tetris

  • Lol Wth they really aired that M for Mator?? you mean mature?

  • they are right, video games do affect the brain. RDR undead nightmare and Left4Dead 2 made me want to eat brains. But actually, brains are pretty good once u get past the gooey part. Still better than Mc Donalds. Don't see why they are complaining about it. :P

  • Every single thing effects the brain, not just violent video games. Why are only video games being targeted the most?

  • Violent EVERYTHING has a negative impact on brains.

  • I'm looking for the Fox News logo. Anybody see it? Anybody? No?

  • At 1:54 the lady is a total bitch, she said "winning" like its a bad thing. the only problem with video games is the tards who dont know when to stop, and how to separate fantasy from reality. thumbs up if you agree

  • The gaming industry declined coming in for an interview? Your telling me the WHOLE FUCKING INDUSTRY AND EVERY FUCKING PERSON INVOLVED WITH GAME CREATION DECLINED AN INTERVIEW. NBC GO SHOVE A JOYSTICK UP YOUR ASS. That is all.

  • @TheHolyPwnage you know what, man, this single emotional/factual agreement/understanding is enough to send a friend request.

  • Your mom affects your brain.

  • I guess it has nothing to do with they are enjoying the FPS more because the racing game sucked!

  • WELL OF COURSE the people who played the war game will have more emotion! your playing a game with a storyline, you should have emotion! just a plain racing game with no story whatsoever? no emotion is normal

  • @drummerman324 And plus getting pissed off when you lose the game.

  • Ive been thinking about this, and I realized how fucking stupid these 'experts' are. Violent video games do not effect most children, they effect the small portion of the community, this portion that gets tested on, whom is not smart enough to put the video game into the context that this is a video game, and is not in any way real. I hope they read this so the next time they want to make the parents happy by ripping on video games, they see the flaws in there theory.

  • Fucking Mormons.

  • i HATE the fact that they always blame the video games.HOW THE HELL WILL I WANT TO GO AND KILL PEOPLE AFTER PLAYING GTA IV? thats what psychopaths do (and not because they played the game) no1 factor for violence is the way you are brought up no2 your character and the LAST thing that leads to violence are video games-im not an expert just an angry gamer expressing his opinion.also why doesnt anyone focus on the good aspects of gaming.im sure those 'experts' can find some if they want

  • well all know why these violent killings happened bad parenting and or very depressed mental state/insanity of a person

a normal person knows the diffrence between reality and virtrul reality

  • These people are just mad because they suck at videogames

  • This reminds me... of hitler banning books.

  • I grew up in the arcade era and all I heard was bullshit from these politicians. They NEVER were able to make a case for their "video games are harmful" accusations. They still can't.

However they DID and still do promote forcing children into church where they could be molested by sexually repressed religious nutballs,...because, you know, molestation was/is "wholesome fun for the whole family"!

  • @FoxifiedNutjob I think the next logical step for Catholic kids is the virtual alter boy electroshock gaming system. Guess where the shockers go....

  • jack thompson set this up

  • what about tv ?

  • it's called entertainment u stupid old bitch

  • omg those are 2 different styles of play you cant even connect those games in any type of way. racing, no shit you need concentration. shooters the objective is to stay alive wouldnt u get mad if u got shot and didnt know where it came from @_@ hmph adults my ass they jus dont know how to play

  • wait? where did i hear videogames cause violence? all i heard is how videogames affect people's brains

  • Violent video games "affect the brain," huh? Well, so does exercising, sleeping, eating, talking and, you know, existing.

  • @NintendoArielle lol Welcome to the Uneducated States of Ambiguity (USA).

  • Fruads!

  • I just played Tekken 2. I feel like karate chopping something now. Help!

  • funny i play mortal kombat when i was 5 and i learn that punching in the balls is the most effect way to get away from adults who try to kip nap me when i was young. and then throw on sun glasses and cross my arms and say "Deal with it"

  • 30 people are pussies that do what the media and their way too caring parents say.

  • This is bullshit cos i've been playing GTA since i was ten nine years of age but it never put any bad ideas in my head well it did but i didn't have the urge to kill anybody only the fake people on the computer if anything games relieve tension and anger violent outbursts supposedly contributed to games only affects some but not many its all down to the parents i say.

  • Everything affects your brain. But not allways negative. I find nothing wrong with shooters. I played Halo since i were 6-7-8, and the only affection i have is that i play alot and have not too much imagenation. But i am not a bad person, and Halo is not violent. PEGI gave it 16+ in 2001-2-3! Movies and books are just as bad.

  • i agree with azazel166 this is BULL-SHIT! i have played video games since i was 5 and i'm just fine

  • @Filnizer true that's what i was going to say.

    these people are morons

  • Vincent Mathews is Insane In The Membrane

  • This study is crap, it's not about the game, it's about the player. There is no real evidence that violent games affect your behavior. I read about a father who let his young son play Grand Theft Auto to see what he would do; his son tried to follow the speed limit, obey street lights, and even felt bad when he ran over a pedestrian. GTA has never made we want to go beat hookers with a baseball bat.

  • this is sad its coming to thier attention now ? i mean duke nukem was violent i mean really violent mortal kombat was graphic so why are they complaing now and they always warned u that children should not play so clearly its been the parents fault for almost 18 years.

  • Uh is it me or was violence around before games and wasn't it a couple thousand years ago that a great man was stabbed 64 times by his own son and others. They must of played doom.......wait was doom out back then.....oh no it was not and they got along just fine to find ways to kill people like their favorite form of execution till people started to worship it was crusificsion where they nail them to a piece of wood and stab at them.

  • The games industry declined? theres 1 person that represents us all?

  • I just played pac-man And I've been turned into a canibal HURR DURR VIOLENT GAMES

  • Oh please! I've been playing mature games since I could form words in my mouth and my brain is fine! Im doing damn well in life!

  • Most of these scans were likely taken shortly after they stopped playing, so they have no evidence of long-term effects.

  • "The gaming industry is fighting back and in some cases, they are winning." This lady's a bitch. I love violent video games like gears and grand theft auto. The games keep people from going crazy and blasting the shit out of others in real life. If anything violent video games help stop the violence. They keep kids inside and out of trouble.

  • 1:25 Give that person a medal!

  • I THINK I SMELL BULLSHIT!

  • Someone once told me violent video games cause violent behavior. I respectfully disagreed, so I shot them in the face and stole their car, which I proceeded to drive around town at breakneck speed, plowing over pedestrians and a few stray dogs in the process. Eventually the cops shot me down, but luckily I woke up in the hospital the next day completely fine and all the charges had been dropped.

  • Your FACE affects your brain!

  • @OtakuThreeThousand Your ASS affects your FACE! Owned.

  • @MrJamesonStyles Well, your FACE affects your ASS! Wait...

  • @OtakuThreeThousand Oh shit! You have comprehensively and undeniably put me in my place, good sir. However, I do believe you've merely done it for the lulz, and if I can find conclusive evidence to support this theory, I will take you to the highest court in the land and have you punished to the fullest extent of the law. Expect officers with search warrants within three days... Good day, OtakuThreeThousand.... if that is your real name!

  • @MrJamesonStyles OBJECTION! That's not fair... D:

  • @OtakuThreeThousand You know, I was about to say "doesn't every stimuli affect your brain in some way?" but your comment was far more funny and to the point.

  • Even if they banned Violent video many people would still find ways to play them.

Plus, Video Game company's have billions of dollars that could buy out any competition.

  • parent permission ..? HA :D

    rating system..? HAHA :D

give me the most absurdly violent game there is and lets have some FUN

  • parent permission ..? HA :D

    rating system..? HAHA :D

give me the most absurdly violent game there is and lets have some FUN

  • parent permission ..? HA :D

    rating system..? HAHA :D

give me the most absurdly violent game there is and lets have some FUN

  • Them video games are affecting them brains! Seriously, how many video game players are idiots?

Ok, so maybe the evidence stacks up against us, but this is just unfair.

The media tries to destroy everything that is recent, over the top, etc. They don't realize that if video games didn't exist, they would be complaining about A Clockwork Orange still. It's not that video games are evil, it's that the media is corrupt in their messages about what they broadcast. They probably saw and liked ACO.

  • The news goes over it briefly and shallow, only showing what looks most exciting, not really educating. Wow, changes in the brain! This is dangerous! Put it in perspective. Watch a sad movie, your mood changes to sad. Temporarily. What they're doing is like warning us that a sad movie causes depression. They alarm us, implying these changes are behind violent behavior What they found is interesting and advances science, but this presentation colors it dark, deceiving viewers.

  • @qwexas You've pretty much summarized why America's news networks suck....

  • These changes emerged in 30 minutes. I bet they went away quickly, with the brain going back to normal. All this shows is violent games are exciting. I'm not saying the changes don't happen. I've felt emotional changes during games and songs. Some call that fun. But when it's over I go back to equilibrium. Indigestion is a change too, why not warn us about spicy food?

  • What's that I'm smelling? Oh! It's bullshit!

  • American news...Paranoia at the highest level..<.< they only report what will send greedy bastards.

  • A game that is more interactive, and requires more reaction and reflexes stimulates the brain more. Shocking news update.

  • GOW HURTS MY BRAIN!!!!!!

  • i think your brain activity wouldn't be top notch while in an mri chamber.

  • Perhaps after checking, if the brain was affected they should have tried another check by putting the ones who just played the race games to play the violent games and the other way around, just to be sure that it's nothing individual.

  • Oh no! How dare children be emotionally aroused! What is next, massive hit and run murders? This is a crisis at its highest level!

  • @maikeru1

I lol'd at the title and just had to check out what kind of new stupid 'evidence' the media has come up with.

    ...Things...affect...our BRAIN! WOW.

  • Stupid media always blames the actions of the kid psychopaths on violent videogames based on the fact that the kids play violent videogames... What kind of kid doesn't play violent vdeogames? I get a lot more pissed off when I play FIFA 10 than when I play GTA IV lol

  • The only time I ever felt like beating somebody with a controller was when I failed at a racing game for 3 hours straight, lol. I know exactly what you mean.

  • Violent video games affect the brain? I don't think so, I think what affects the brain even more is a shitty American fast food diet in my opinion...A lack of fruits and vegetables and Omega 3 fatty acids from Fish, and Flax seeds.

I don't think video games affect the brain to aggressive behavior, that's really up to the individual...I think that games stimulates more neurons and connections in the brain, whether it's violent or not.

  • Wow. If they really wanted to do a research if violent video games effected kids they would have to raise kids without any T.V. radio nothing. Then they would have to show them a violent video game and see what they do. But you would think that most teenagers would know not to kill a person or take drugs..right? I mean if your going to get violence from somewhere its probably watching NCIS or CSI or a crime show...I mean really?

  • what school was it that did the reasearch?

  • If you didn't include the mature videogames than how do you have a control if you just use the teen ratings you dumba**

  • You have to be a little screwed up in the head in order to kill someone the thing that pushes you to do it maybe a book, movie ,video game, or something someone says.

  • You americans are complete idiots!!! in Britian we have common fucking sense!!!

  • why is it always the gray haired 70 year olds that have a problem with video games. i think their jealous cuz all they had was pong

  • lol

  • @skudman061 tehy didn't even have pong, they had sticks

  • @skudman061 lol

  • @skudman061 It's not a bad thing that they're all old. Once that generation is dead there wont be a whole lot more bitching about games, lol. Just look at it that way.

  • (facepalms) MORONS!!!!!!!!!!

  • I most definitely think there is something to be said about video games affecting the brain..especially violent video games. Like the study said, when you play violent video games you are using the emotional side of your brain instead of the side that is used for concentration and self-control. Although I think there are a lot of factors that effect how kids react to video games, I believe violent video games effect their behavior (aggression, anger etc.)

  • .......you are such a fucking idiot!

  • your a dumbass

  • I have to say that violent video games again are not designed for kids they are for adults. but it makes sence to a piont, becaue when your frustrated you get angery aka the brain scans.

  • "M for Matuuure"

At least gamers can pronounce mature properly

  • tis is bullshit man , i only kill a cat after i play video game

  • non - violent car game?

    somebodys never heard of burnout

  • checkin da brain after playin a game has nothin 2 do wit wat a person will do in real life

  • um....i want to agree with you people but your saying some ignorant stuff. Yes your brain does affect what you do in real life and studying the brain can tell us a little about human behavior. Seriously i dont think video games brainwash kids but you people are coming up with this ignorant arbitrary arguments that just make you look childish.

  • The sample may well be flawed...

They used different kids; which means that there's no way of knowing that the kids they used didn't have more activity in those areas of the brain in the first place.

What would have made a more effective study is if they had used the same kids, over a period of a couple of days and monitored the differences in their cognitive functionality that way.

Would have given more accurate and believable results.

A genuine error? Or an attempt to manipulate the data?

  • um....i got the impression that they checked them before the study to see if their brains were more active in those areas. They probably wouldnt just assume all the kids are the same. I find it amusing that you instantly assume its flawed. You can disagree with it but at least get a logical reason before just dismissing it based on opinion.

  • I didn't dismiss it. Did I?

I said that the sample MAY be flawed and just commented on what I THOUGHT might have been better procedure.

I'm no psychologist, so I can't say for certain. I just thought that surely the results would get to the heart of the matter better if they measured the sane kids brains.

If I'm wrong, then how about you explain to me WHY I'm wrong, since I obviously don't know what the fuck I'm talking about. Instead of being a jackass about it.

  • You assume they made a mistake that obvious and didnt even realize that they could have tested the kids brains before the test? Im not saying i know they did this, but you dont know for sure that they didnt. If all you can do is hurl insults then i think you have already shown your ignorance.

  • the guy even said they can't say for sure if it changes behaviour. It only changes their actions in the game. how often do you think someone will play gerar of war, then go out and kill someone because they feel like it?

  • this is bs they only time this happened was when i was playing halo with my dumb a friend luke he was t baging my tame mate so i turned IN THE VIDEO GAME to shot him in the face IN REAL LIFE i had a rocket launcher btw so if i have a gun and you catch me playing halo dont tea bag

  • 0:33 nonviolent racing game....FAIL. Carbon has illegal racing dumbass, you crash cars all the freaking time and can drive them over the cliff, let alone the cop chases and ramming the cars at 120 mph

  • yes sadam and osama played gta4 and john dilenger and charles manson played gears 2 but violent games dont cause violence in real life unless your crazy already

  • she has a little bit of point there when i was around 5 1/2 i played mortal kombat and in kindergarten i threw a chair at a kid who called me dumbo. and then i put my knee to his face ahhhh...good times.

  • i have all As bitch

  • and if they bann video games it will be like teh acholhal ban in the 1900s, there will be more crime, PEOPLE PLAY GTA SO THEY BE A CRIMANAL WITHOUT BEING ONE IN REAL LIFE, so more people will commit crimes becasue less will be playing gta, and they will amke a proftibal busisness of selling ilgeal games, if teh yban video games thats what will happen, and i tihnk what will make them shutup

  • and parents need gat to show there kids that the world is nto a happy place filled with rainbows, no

gta shows kids to not talk to strangers

and not to corss teh street, kind of what the anoying assambly says about bullyign fdrugs etc, but fun

  • you wanan know what i find weird ever since i started palying video games i have gotten Bs on my tests and i dont study, i was only playing rts games liek sid mieres civilization etc, but afetr i started playing gta THEY GOT EVEN HIGHER IM NOT KIDDING, the only reaons my grades fell this year was becasue of family guy

  • I've been playing rated M games since I was like 6 (That's 8 years ago), continue to play them now, and can still say I get more bad influence out of the kids that think they're "Gangsta" at school then playing a game like Gears of War.

Unfortunately for media, they believe that children don't know the difference between real-life and virtual-reality, which is a sack of crap.

  • typical media... makes me so sad

  • hes right theres only one way to sttle this.GEARS OF WAR DEATH MATCH!

and MK armaghedon fights and doa girl fighrs in kinky suits matches!

  • This is so WTF.

Okey, you maybe playGTA IV that I have to accept that is violent but then you go into the TV and watch that a 40 year old guy fucked a little girl and threw her into a hole. So seriously, I play violent video games like Counter-Stike or Half-Life and I won't get an M4A1 and start shooting people and I think I'm not the only guy that play violent video games and only take it like a game, and only like that.

  • i'm playing violent video games from 6 year old and the only thing they did to me is to make me fight back when some1 makes fun of me etc. :P thank you video games! xD

  • Bullshit.

  • im gonna be honest i thought that was a rather fair mini debate to be honest they showed both sides of the story and ESA still kicked there arse

  • Of course violent games affect the brain - it's called getting immersed in the game, and rarely causes ill effects, YOU IDIOTS!!

  • Newsflash: Shitty news programs quoting retarded studies might affect the brain too!

  • Studies also show a causal link between journalists that report on issues they don't understand and terminal cases of cranial-rectal disorder. ;)

  • ROFL she said M for Ma-Tore.

  • hmmmm.... so when you play violent video games you get emotionally aroused. next time you see a violent act being committed and the person has a boner then it was probably a violent game.

  • A brain-boner? Interesting proposal, LMAO!!

  • FUCK THEM... if we wanna play violent games we should be aloud... its showing us what is happening in our immaginations thats not aloud in the real world... so there good... it brings our immmaginations alive!

    greetzz

    samm

  • No shit it causes emotional arrousal...you get so mad when you end up dying from your own grenade...

  • wow i am playing assassins creed and i am ok because i am learning history from like 1000 years ago i think. I am so fine that i got an A in history class

  • THATS WHAT HAPPNED TO ME WHEN I PLAYED AGE OF EMPIRES 3! thats what i mtalking about i used to eb a dumbshit but now im smart

  • @merten0083 fuck yeah dude.

  • if someone kills somebody because they saw it in a game then they weren't that stable tto begin with.

  • here in norway, a 12 year old can buy, manhunt 2, gears of war, whit no paret or guardian.

is it the same in usa??

  • Some large department stores are just beginning to adopt a policy where children are not allowed to buy M or A-rated games unless they're 18 or over or have just an adult who's 18 or over with them. But you must understand that these department stores are VERY likely targets for being sued. (I refer to stores like Walmart, Kmart, Target, etc. Some Americans will sue just to get money out of people - and the more the better to them.)

  • Who wants to join military when we have Call Of Duty? LOL!

  • They're communist.

  • changes in the area for emotional arousal? I bet jacking off has the same affect :p

  • RATED M FOR MANLY !

  • 0:20 "...rated M for mutuuure or A for adult" yeah off to a real convincing start...

  • is need for speed carabon a non violent racing game i thought you crashed police cars and stuff in that? Besides i've been playing shooters since i was six and my brain is ok but i have some kid's in my school who practice's boxing and they want to beat people up all the time^^

  • Bullshit! I've been playing vilolent video games since i was 7 years old and my brain is just fine.

  • A fucking men.

  • @azazel166 my 7 year old cousin finished assassin's creed 2 yesterday...and she isn't psycotic or anything....and she didn't try to slit anybodies neck either...

  • @azazel166 @TheOpenMinded12460 My first violent video game was Twisted Metal, and now I play a lot more violent video games. Just because, I play a lot of Mortal Kombat does not mean I am going to start fights, batter, kill and drink blood.

  • rofl why is guitar hero with the "violent video games" at 1:43 ????

stupid people don't know what they're talking about

  • "had more activity"

THATS BECAUSE ITS AN FPS YOU STUPID TWATS

  • screw thta ppl that hate video games just make up crap and want ppl to belive it.......stupid overprotective parnents

  • they can suck my dick...and i mean it!!!

  • weird... ive been playing violent games all my life, and i dont feel different.... maybe they dont have self control

  • i hate these reproters they believe that this is right and so many people are stupid. I mean they can just kiss my ass they arent going to change anything they can't get these games bans only if they got EVERY SINGLE person in the world against video games. Fuck all you uneducated people.

  • Wow,let's go after the video game industry for violents video games, and after we've destoryed this multi-billion $ indusrty, lets destroy everything else in the 1st admendment

  • *reads title without seeing the video'' *yells* C'mon I play a lot of games (maybe to much, yes I admit it), but I'm doing VWO (in my country highest possible thing you can do in school, so I can have everything as a job and doing well at school, all my scores are almost the highest (10/10), and I'm almost doing nothing for school. I guess this ''voilent video games may affect the brain'' discussion is only being discussed by parents who can't raise kids well and they get aggresive.
