PEGI gave it 16+ in 2001-2-3! Movies and books are just as bad.

I read about a father who let his young son play Grand Theft Auto to see what he would do; his son tried to follow the speed limit, obey street lights, and even felt bad when he ran over a pedestrian. Someone once told me violent video games cause violent behavior. I respectfully disagreed, so I shot them in the face and stole their car, which I proceeded to drive around town at breakneck speed, plowing over pedestrians and a few stray dogs in the process. Eventually the cops shot me down, but luckily I woke up in the hospital the next day completely fine and all the charges had been dropped.

Watch a sad movie, your mood changes to sad. Temporarily. What they're doing is like warning us that a sad movie causes depression. They alarm us, implying these changes are behind violent behavior What they found is interesting and advances science, but this presentation colors it dark, deceiving viewers.
These changes emerged in 30 minutes. I bet they went away quickly, with the brain going back to normal. All this shows is violent games are exciting. I'm not saying the changes don't happen. I've felt emotional changes during games and songs. Some call that fun. But when it's over I go back to equilibrium. Indigestion is a change too, why not warn us about spicy food?
Perhaps after checking, if the brain was affected they should have tried another check by putting the ones who just played the race games to play the violent games and the other way around, just to be sure that it's nothing individual.

I most definitely think there is something to be said about video games affecting the brain..especially violent video games. Like the study said, when you play violent video games you are using the emotional side of your brain instead of the side that is used for concentration and self-control. Although I think there are a lot of factors that effect how kids react to video games, I believe violent video games effect their behavior (aggression, anger etc.)

They used different kids; which means that there's no way of knowing that the kids they used didn't have more activity in those areas of the brain in the first place.
What would have made a more effective study is if they had used the same kids, over a period of a couple of days and monitored the differences in their cognitive functionality that way.

Some large department stores are just beginning to adopt a policy where children are not allowed to buy M or A-rated games unless they're 18 or over or have just an adult who's 18 or over with them. But you must understand that these department stores are VERY likely targets for being sued. (I refer to stores like Walmart, Kmart, Target, etc. Some Americans will sue just to get money out of people - and the more the better to them.)

Everything affects your brain. But not allways negative. I find nothing wrong with shooters. I played Halo since i were 6-7-8, and the only affection i have is that i play alot and have not too much imagenation. But i am not a bad person, and Halo is not violent. PEGI gave it 16+ in 2001-2-3! Movies and books are just as bad.

This study is crap, it's not about the game, it's about the player. There is no real evidence that violent games affect your behavior. I read about a father who let his young son play Grand Theft Auto to see what he would do; his son tried to follow the speed limit, obey street lights, and even felt bad when he ran over a pedestrian. GTA has never made we want to go beat hookers with a baseball bat.

Someone once told me violent video games cause violent behavior. I respectfully disagreed, so I shot them in the face and stole their car, which I proceeded to drive around town at breakneck speed, plowing over pedestrians and a few stray dogs in the process. Eventually the cops shot me down, but luckily I woke up in the hospital the next day completely fine and all the charges had been dropped.

I most definitely think there is something to be said about video games affecting the brain..especially violent video games. Like the study said, when you play violent video games you are using the emotional side of your brain instead of the side that is used for concentration and self-control. Although I think there are a lot of factors that effect how kids react to video games, I believe violent video games effect their behavior (aggression, anger etc.)

The sample may well be flawed...
They used different kids; which means that there's no way of knowing that the kids they used didn't have more activity in those areas of the brain in the first place.
What would have made a more effective study is if they had used the same kids, over a period of a couple of days and monitored the differences in their cognitive functionality that way.
Would have given more accurate and believable results.
A genuine error? Or an attempt to manipulate the data?

I find it amusing that you instantly assume its flawed. You can disagree with it but at least get a logical reason before just dismissing it based on opinion.

Some large department stores are just beginning to adopt a policy where children are not allowed to buy M or A-rated games unless they're 18 or over or have just an adult who's 18 or over with them. But you must understand that these department stores are VERY likely targets for being sued. (I refer to stores like Walmart, Kmart, Target, etc. Some Americans will sue just to get money out of people - and the more the better to them.)
