Fosse's choreography may seem out of place in this film, but as a fan of Fosse I adore this early example of his emerging style that would eventually change it all.
Bob Fosse's choreography is ridiculously out of place in this film. The entire film is choregraphed like Ann Miller's dance at the start of the video, with the same tone -- except for the roughly one minute sequence Fosse choreographed. Yeah, it's electrifying and sophisticated and jazzy -- unlike the rest of the film.
I remember reading somewhere that Ann Miller thought that Carol Haney upstaged her so she had her career fixed. Does anyone have any information regarding such a horrible rumor about one of Americas most celebrated icons.

@MrFalconford Even if that's true, Miller failed miserably. Only a few years after this Haney left MGM and made a big break with Fosse on Broadway in Pajama Game.

The movie was and still is cutting edge, the mix of song, dance, comedy and Shakespeare is second to none. The cast was amazing and the soundtrack mesmerizing. From This Moment On melody goes straight to my soul and I am transported to another world. Brilliant!
@allliifromcali I think since it was Fred Astaire asking that question from the clip they played in That's Entertainment, he probably had a fair idea of the answer.
What a great number....Ann Miller, of course, but also Bobby Van, Tommy Rall, Jeanne Coyne (who later married Gene Kelly) & last, but not least, Bob Fosse with one of his many muses, Carol Haney (of Steam Heat fame in The Pajama Game). That MGM was able to put six dancers of this caliber in one film is a testament to the depth of dancing talent available in Hollywood & on Broadway in the 1950's.
The quality of this film is far above anything being made today. The sets and costumes (from a time when artists new how to use, and were not afraid of color), the amazing Fosse, the even more amazing Howard Keel!
@hyperion30000 I agree and I gave a thumbs up! But I have heard the constant thing that the plots back then weren't as good as they are now. I agree the costume, dancing and set are amazing-That's golden era MGM for you!
Kelly was joking when he said that, meaning Fosse took dance and choreography to a new level much like Kelly had done.

Ann as usual dances her gorgeous feet off here. The great Fosse style choreography here was well executed by all the great dancers here.

Thank You Bob. Broadway could use another of you.

At last! Someone else who appreciates Bobby Van. And, yes, that costume shows him at his best.

This is Bobby Van's best ever performance. Nice glutes too!

Is this a show tune or a music Video??

Ann Miller and her tapping seem a little out of place and old fashioned in this number, especially next to Bod Fosse and Carol Haney.

Why doesn't Kelly introduce his own wife?

Carol Haney was the only female modern to keep up with Bob.
