The entire purpose of a runway inspection is to ‘inspect’ the runway. At the speeds you were traveling, that is not feasible. Also, the driver radioed clear of the runway while still being within the safety area. Not a wise video to post for the world to see!
ull never see any FOD at that speed not unless its really big and yes talking about additional rubber contamination and runway occupancy times to break hard and back up to collect debris. i do d same thing but we certainly have better procedures in place...
Yep, this is about how they do it at Dulles. My division doesn't conduct the daily inspections, but I can place my claim of doing 90 on a T/W, and 80 on a R/W (backwards huh?) Feels like you're not even doing 25 when you're out there.
Very cool, very cool. Okay sealbeachbum, next time I'll ride with you and take the videos. If you see some debris how long are the skid marks when you stop to remove the debris?
Cool job. Interesting that the ground personnel are conversing with ATC over the same frequency ATC is conversing with approaching aircraft. Puts everyone on the same page. I like it!
I was riding in the back seat taking the video. George (the driver) and I were doing recurrent training to be the duty Superintendent. When I do a runway inspection I drive a lot faster than George! Haha! 25R is a 12,000 ft runway and there is never a break in landing traffic at LAX. I never get kicked off midfield like he did! :)

@sealbeachbum How do you see FOD and pick it up at such a speed though?

Hey was that you driving or were you riding? I work in airport operations at another airport. It is interesting seeing how other airports operate.
