  • AH!!!!REGULATOR!!!!!

  • Anyone who loves metal but doesn't like this song, especially at 3:00, is a hypocrite. This is the most metal thing you can ever listen to.

  • OMFG I love Hevy Devy.

  • God damn it. Not to ruin the video or anything, but has this videos been dubbed? or at least tampered with? (I d'know, I'm literally smashed on rum just at the moment). BUT – look at Rayn Vanp-oed... whatever-the-fuck - @ 0.27 (or 6.34 according to the DVD) and just look at the way Ryan substitutes the hit-hat for a symbol. Out of sync? It at least looks suss, (but, then again I'm trashed on rum just at the moment). Prove me wrong ladies and gents, cause this kind of $#!+ gets to me

  • 3 people are just plain cunts really.

  • Whoah... I wonder why the part at 1.46 was'nt recorded like that, sounds awesome!!!

  • @Naturaali1 that's the magic of improvisation.

  • fuckin POWERFUL.

  • More bands should record their music like this.

  • I just want to push his glasses up watching this!

  • whoa, this totaly destroys the album version. plus i love Dev's granny glasses

  • 3:10 not human.

  • Dream Theater is cool.. I only wish I had the patience to actually listen to one of their songs without getting annoyed.

  • FUCK FUCK FUCK CUNT FUCK FUCK FUCK CUNT FUCK FUCK TWAT SHIT CUNT FUCK CUNT FUCK SHIT FUCK. Five stars. My review.

  • It boggles my mind however he does the scream at 3:08

  • seems like 3 people are deaf

  • @kiss200 Man they are not deaf...they're FUCKING IDIOTS!!

  • Comment removed

  • 02:51 guy taking Dev's glasses from the ground :) epic shit! \m/

  • his voice gets you pumped!

  • Hahahaha 2:25 and the glasses don't stand a chance.

  • This is great!

  • what about linkin park (old stuff, hate their new shit) and devy? or is that too much?

  • immense

  • hahah the end

    shtthhethSTORM

  • I thought I was the only one who thought that was funny.

  • I see people comparing silly thing Devin Townsend is one power house of a musician his stuff just absolute genius... He is one monster and Dream Theater are another monster... People LIKE Devin and Dream Theater have contributed some phenomenal music and have stayed true to their art and I love them both for always keeping it real... Should respct their both for their phenomenal work :D this track is absolutely fantastic :)

  • @immortalsoloist Well... the thing is, unlike Dream theater, Dev really stayed true to his art and did not become label's bitch. He still makes music how he wants, when he wants and most importantly what he wants.

Dream theater on the other hand fell prey to the music industry long time ago. Their last albums weren't that good and their best stuff was release in 90s and early 2000s. After that it's just not that good. Not even closely, And no change. Same old...

  • @Glad1kun Hey buddy...

There is no point in comparing... Everyone has their own perspective. To me Dream Theater still make interesting music. No album sounds like it's been done before even still... So there still is change. As far falling prey to the industry;I don't think writing songs above 16 minute marks is giving in to the industry... They still do what they have always done and that is to offer great music. Them getting recognition for it isn't selling out. Dev is great so is DT. Peace.

  • @Glad1kun What?! Dream Theater write the music they want and John and Mike are the ones who produce the albums -.- lol... They are not a label's bitch, it's what they do because they want to.

  • @Glad1kun That is a very idiotic comment dude, Dream Theater (because of Mike) is very successful and diverse because they strayed away from labels a long time ago, watch their Score DVD where they interview the band, Mike makes it very clear that he avoided label control long ago, he was sick of them telling the band how to write music.

  • @Glad1kun Oh yeah, because, ya know, writing fifteen minute songs with your guitar tuned to B is so in right now. Man, that Dream Theater, selling out for those pop hits and radio plays on the top 40. Such a shame.

  • I think Devy has been playing with music loving Aliens.....his music is something else!!! xxx

  • tool/russian circles collaborating with devin townsend that'd be great

  • I'm a dude and the idea of Mike Patton and Devin Townsend doing a song, much less and album makes MY pussy wet!!!

  • Dream Theatre sucks dude

they don't even come close to Devy

    yeahhhh

  • my favorite devin album is ocean machine. + that is such a nice snare sound

  • Me too!

  • I think I prefer this version to the one on Ocean Machine. Either way, the song is killer.

  • What i love about Devin's music is it surrounds you, everything from Steve Vai to Strapping Young Lad. It encases you in a silky (or gritty) cocoon of auditory nirvana. His music is so incredibly layered and complex. If he toured with Dream Theater i would shit myself.

  • Dream Theatre with Devin Townsend. Oh god. I must change my shorts. That would be the sickest and most skilled tour ever

  • @aligatorsandwitch72 I think Dream Theater would shit themselves.

  • @KyleP133 lol

  • @KyleP133 HAHAHA best comment ive read all day :D

  • @aligatorsandwitch72 You were making sense up to 'Dream Theater'...

  • @XxSharkBatexX I enjoy Dream Theatre*, but then the vocals come in and I have to switch it off...

*I originally shortened that to DT and released 'Dream Theater' and 'Devin Townsend' have the same initials, how annoying.

  • @ChucklesMginty Precisely my major point of annoyance in their music. I also think Portnoy is overrated, although he was without doubt a good drummer. Never mind him though, as he decided to quit. :)

*I just use DT for Dream Theater, and Dev for Devin Townsend. Most people are intelligent enough to work it out.

    Good day to you, sir!

  • @XxSharkBatexX Agreed, Portnoy is overrated as hell. Gene Hoglan any day...

  • @ChucklesMginty Damn straight. Let's credit Ryan van Poederooyen as well, since we're commenting on this here video. I saw him live with Dev, and he's a beast!

  • @aligatorsandwitch72 He's way too good for Dream Theater

  • @aligatorsandwitch72 Speaking of Dream Theater. I saw them when I was 15 back in 98 open for Deep Purple. Never heard of them before that, needless to say we shit our young selves. Crazy band to just have thrown on you at 15. Fucking epic.

  • yo'r a fuckin BIG man Devin Dude!!!!!

    - - -waiting for Addicted- - -

  • Just beautiful :-D

  • anselmo has sung allmost every style of vocals....and devin is god!

  • Devy pwns him at it. Also he's not a junkie. And seems like a nice guy. Unlike Phil Anselmo.

  • oh u have spent a lot of time with Phil? Then dont judge him.

  • @T3hRuski woah man. I like devins music, but phil is the shit! Down raped my mind. Awesome show!

  • devy is superia as a vocalist i think

  • Will everyone shut the fuck up? I'm trying to watch the video!

  • This songs kicks ass. so does the whole ocean machine album. if you dont have it buy it!

Why are comparing devin townsend with phil anselmo. one plays experimental prog stuff and the other hard southern rock/metal. Both are masters of what they do!

  • Ocean Machine rules all!! :)

  • Synchestra isn't that bad either!

  • my favorite song. The riff is badass.

  • Devin Townsend Is with out a doubt the greatest musician Alive, The man is pure Genius.

  • do you know what would be fantastic? a song from devin townsend with phil anselmo as invited, even an album i think

  • how can you put phil anselmo even in the same sentance as devin townsend....

  • why not?

  • Devin is a genius, Phil Anselmo is trash

  • that's just an opinion, i though you would talk something about their techniques incompatible or another reason more logical

  • both have awesome metal voices. i'd like to hear anselmo singing something by syl, or devin singing some pantera.

  • How about Devy producing some Down... Maybe guest vocals??? Phil and Devy trading off would be nuclear...

  • Down is absolutely one of my favorite bands and Phil has been a HUGE vocal inspiration to me....but I'm not sure if that's something I'd want to hear.

Dev producing Pantera...that may be different...

Only person I'd cut myself to see Dev work with is Mike Patton....and I don't care WHERE that music would go, because it'd be fucking KILLER regardless of style or direction....

  • What about redoing Angel Dust or King For a Day albums?? That would be nuts...

  • As killer as it'd be, I think both Patton and Dev are quite forward thinkers and would rather create somethin' new than cover their own albums.....(but yeah, it'd still be badass).

  • No doubt!! I would love to be a fly on the wall when they were working on it...

  • If Patton and Dev made something together I would literally cream myself.

Oh and Joe Satriani feat. Daft Punk. I would LOVE that too. <3

  • Devin Townsend with Mike Patton? Just the thought this could be a possibilty makes my mancunt wet!

  • Do you realise just how terrible that would sound? I'm not dissing either artist but they just would not go together well.

  • why not?

    did you hear it?

    i'd like to hear it

  • Their voices arent even similar lol, Anselmo's voice is not anything special he just sounds like ALOT of other singers, Devin is unique in his sound. This whole thing is like comparing Britney Spears to Mozart.

  • i see you don't appreciate phil but it i think all i say won't so i will give only my suggestion about both them together singing

devin sung with people like steve vai

and phil anselmo has sung with many styles of music

  • such a badass tune, my fav.

  • I'm digging the snare drum.

    Among other things:P

  • Fucking AWESOME!

  • Pretty sweeet

  • I would give my left nut to be able to scream like DT.

  • I'd give my right one.

  • I'd give both your nuts.

  • lock steps are the shit...

  • Heh, it sounds so weird compared to the original Ocean Machine track :D Awesome video though, reminds me that I really should watch that DVD one of these days.

  • If I'm correct, there are some songs that are in a totally different tuning than Open C major. I believe the whole album Physicist is in AEAEADb, as well as some SYL songs like AAA. I could be wrong though. If I am, please feel free to correct me.

  • Yup, AAA, some songs are even in standard like Vampira. Open C Major is most common though

  • it's 46-56 that gets me.

Does Devin use C-G-C-G-C-E for most of his work?

    .|..|

  • all of his stuff is in CGCGCE.....except on a handfull of songs he uses a 7 string with the same setup but a lower G added

  • i hooked up with Duris maxwell.

"Ki is clearly a departure from much of what Devin is noted for. And that is rather sad to me because he has SO much to say musically. As I see it, Ki is really about the universe of music that has always lived inside Devin - a part at least. But then, Devin is an immense talent...and far more than the specific expression represented by Strapping Young Lad, for example.

enormously honoured to have helped Devin bring his musical vision into reality."

  • Epic

  • Devin's a pure genious

  • i want ki creamed all over my face

  • Project....

    Thstorm!

  • how can Devin say that Ki will be the best stuff he has ever done nothing can be better than Ocean MAchine period

  • but if it is, oh i cant fucking wait because ocean machine is a bit a record.

  • Personally I'd rate Terria higher than Ocean Machine.

That said, they're both amazing albums.

    Really looking forward to Ki.

  • Me too, but where did you find out about this new album?

  • On the hevydevy forums

  • It's actually done, he's just waiting for the other three albums to be competed before he releases it.

  • Terria is AMAZING. His pinnacle IMO. OM is a very close second. The new record taster sounds pretty lush at times and really bizarre at others!! Should be a good one. :-)

  • I'm with Intheblue6 on this one.

Whether it was intentional or not, it does sound a tiny bit faster than the studio recording but I prefer it this way actually.

Plus if the drummer was tired, he'd have kept it as simple as it was originally. He wouldn't have that much double-bass when the original used only a single-kick as I recall.

Imo, I just think this version is so badass.

  • I think it was most likely intentional its sped up. most bands play their songs a couple beats faster when performing. I don't know why they do but its a tendency I've noticed.

  • I've noticed the same thing. It's so obvious with certain bands like Metallica. They just seem to get so amp'd up and play lightning fast lol Then other times they'll over-correct and play at a crawl-pace.

  • 1:18 our tiiime is gooone... .. AoOwn...

  • the glasses. the glasses are the best.

  • Does it seem rushed to anyone else?

As a drummer, I have to blame the drummer.

Although to his credit, he's probably dead tired by this point in the set... I know i'd be.

  • Yeah, it is a little rushed, but it's hard to make a DTB song sound bad. :)

  • as a shitty drummer I have to give him props sounds bad ass to me

  • can anyone upload Japan by SYL? that song is awesome!!!

  • what a heavy finish!

  • I really like the fill that starts at 1:58

  • when i walk out from the school doors for the last time in april. Imma have this song in my ears.

Devin is worth that honnor :)

  • At 3:11, Devin hits a G#6 down to G6. In a flipping scream, aswell. Who else in the world can do that.

  • dont get me wrong, i love devin townsend and i think he is an amazing singer and a genius musician but that was no where near to a g#6. Myabe a g#3 or 4 not sure

  • If you listen to his other accents just before it, he's hitting E5s (soprano Es) but at 3:11 he definitely reaches an octave higher than G#5. You need to listen out for the frequencies, but he's definitely hitting it.

  • for the regulators maaaaaaan!

  • This sounds like a song from some cool sci-fi film, and I for one love it. Keep up the good work Mr Townsend.

  • Epic ass shit, not as fuck off as the album recording....

  • This Song and the album are EPIC...for any who havnt picked up this disk ,do IT.....just an outstanding and under heard album

  • 2 words

    FUCKIN AWESOME!!!

SAW HIM @ CATHOUSE IN GLASGOW A COUPLA YEARS AGO, ZIMMERS HOLE 1ST ON BILL, DEVIN TOWNSEND BAND NEXT, THEN THE MIGHTY STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, WHAT A FUCKIN GIG, THE MAN DOES ATMOSPHERIC MUSIC BETTER THAN FLOYD.

I WALKED OUT AFTER THAT GIG FEELING LIKE ID BEEN RUN OVER BY A TRUCK, INTENSITY? THE MAN HAS IT IN SPADES

  • Wow dude.. wow.. you lucky mother fucker

  • that is a lot more than two words

in fact, two words is two words :O

  • as is "caps lock"

  • Having played in several bands over the last 14 years I can honestly say that I am impressed with this performance. These guys are in a practice setting regardless of whether or not they are recording for a DVD. The best performances rarely come out of the practice pad. As far as the vocals are concerned, try singing like Devin all the time, the vocal cords will fatigue eventually. The fact that he has done all of the SYL touring over the years and STILL sings this well is a fucking miracle.

  • Some people just like to listen to his music at home and great pleasure out of it. Music can be great even without being live oriented.

  • I don't see what was wrong with it. Dev sang it nearly perfectly, The chorus still had the 'wall of sound' feel, it was all very powerful.

  • It's not even just the vocals that are off. The entire song is sped up. It ruins the entire majestic feel.

  • Studio and Live are two different worlds.

Some bands/musicians are better at mixing the two than others. So what? They're only human

  • Holy fuck Devin is fucking ugly. It's a good thing he's GOD at everything he touches.

  • what the fuck are you talking about

he's so goddamn good looking, i can't help but pop an erection everytime i see him

  • I think he looks good,

But I dont like when he has his glasses on.

SYL-love video he is a sexy son of a bitch.

  • I wonder how does he make this tremendous sound. Very distorted but everything can be heard.

  • If I was to start a laxative company, this would be the Theme Song.

  • This is the funniest comment I have ever read on YouTube.

  • Oh my god...Devin rocks the whole universe...!

  • thos glasses are about to fall off XD

But man, go him for rocking the specs

  • Drum triggers sound cool as hell in this version.

  • On your knees peasents, DEVIN owns this page :D:D:D. FUCKEN ROCK ON!

  • Those glasses :D Fuckin brutal, man!

  • great pianoworks, flowing trhough [don't know how to write that word... :S]

    grtz

  • \m/,

  • FUCKING BRILLIANT

  • Lalalalalalaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • If and when Devin gets DTB back together I hope they do a real live DVD. I've got this one but I'd love to have one them infront of a crowd and whatnot.

  • Devin pwns thy n00bs.

  • Devin Townsend is god.

  • I agree with drockny

  • idd, this owns. pretty good vocals too

  • HEAVY DEVI RULES!

  • F'in awesome. Regualtor is easily in the top 3 best DTB songs of all time. Dev rules!
