This is an excellent version of the first two books. it is a shame that they seemed to have run out of money and had to make 'Helm's deep' a conclusion rather than a step towards victory over Sauron.

Peter Jackson's version is, of course, superb in every possible way, but we shouldn't ignore this beautifully made cartoon.

It's a pity that Ralph ran out of money when making this excellent film. It's much more faithful to Tolkien's story than Peter Jackson's (unsurpassable) live action epic.

Its not as Bad as I imagined actually, But it feels very rushed and it lacks the seriousness of PJ's, I know its a kid film, but still.

ANyway its a good effort of the produceres considering the resorces they had.

True, but keep in mind this version is more aimed at children than others - for instance, I remember watching this when I was 7 or 8 and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Course the more recent adaptation (real-time) is better, but this one has enough motion and exaggeration to keep kids interested while keeping the plot intact.

the background layouts are actually really tidy and quite beautiful, rotoscoping has an unerving quality, especially with eyes which can seem fixated somewhere else. also the wobbling can be disorientating and distracting another shortfall of tracing
