The XKR is a very car lovely indeed. I especially like the port holes on this one. They accentuate the fenders like the dimples on Rachel McAdam's face.
Nothing wrong with either, it's just preference. My uncle has a 997 carrera s and a xkr convertible and they are both insanely nice cars, the jag being the more refined touring car where as the 911 is more of a sports car.
Personally, I prefer jag over porsche, especially because of the look. And porsche ain't really my type of car, though I own and audi tt. May consider buying xkr in the future ;)
@Falhok I would have the Jaguar over the Porche and I am Dutch, British cars beutiful and exciting. German cars are boring now and the Porche has had the same design for thirty years

as nice as the Porsche is, i think its boring, they have not changed the look in a Seriously long time. the jag is Seriously nice, if i had the cash, the jag it would be.

@rtingdds Age has nothing to do with it. It just depends weather you have exclusive class taste and glory. And if your willing to be brave enough to stick out from the bunch and be different, not jumping on some brand name band wagon. While most 20 year old are driving sport compacts I got vette. Still <3 Jags
@rtingdds Yes, that's because Jaguars are for old men losers - who can't afford an Aston Martin. Owning a Jag just shows you havent achieved what you want in life. Think about how old YOU are first, before replying!

@rtingdds I only saw your comment TODAY you retard, not 7 months ago. Sorry to disappoint you old man - I'm in my early 30s and I own TWO Porsches - a Boxster and a Carrerra 987 911. You probably own a 12 year-old Jag worth about £1500. The 'avatar' is a Cayman - you jealous sanctimonious prick. You're clearly a deeply insecure bitter old man, who is trying desperately to denigrate others just because you're older? I'm a successful journalist, you're a washed up blue collar loser.
@milesdavisblackmx5 Do a search on youtube you will see many videos of my car.

In college, the smart kids go into science major and become doctors, the not so bright one (but like to talk a lot) went into journalism. I'm sorry 4U.... Before you post another blob, please post a few videos of your "cars", otherwise why bother talking?
@milesdavisblackmx5 By the way, are you sure you are a real journalist? because you don't sound very educated. Posting a few blog or posting on face book does not make you a successful journalist....
The jaguar has about 100 hp more than the porsche and is slower from 0-60 and the handling is also worse the the porsches. If you talk about the built quality, materials and reliability the porsche is also much better.
But in this test the jag wins because its more british than the porsche!
Just traded my 00 911 for a new XKR. Love theGT comfort after 10 yrs of bouncing all over the road. Having said that, the 911had a raw, instant response drive. It really feels like an extention of your body, very confident drive, and around the city, nothing came close. The Jag on the other hand is a smooth, comfortable ride, but slower response and more steering play, not much, but noticable after the 911. Wont grip the road like the 911 but on open roads, wow.
@Botie2 ...cont After 2 months, there is still the feeeling in the Jag that you will loose it if you corner too fast unlike the confidence the prosche delivers. Best part features of the Jag; the price, the sound of the engine (4 wheel harley), the torque, and the after sales care (unlike the 10 years of frustration with Porsche aftersales). Most of all, unlike the Porsche, the looks from the sidewalk are much more freindly, seems everyone has a soft spot for Jags.
Completely agreed, don't forget to mention the built quality of your new XKR. As a previous owners of Porsche & a few Mercedes, Jag is much better built.
@rtingdds Agree. As much as I loved the porsche, there were allways problems just after the warrenty expired, and all the features of the Jag were an optional extra in the porsche.
I would take the Jaguar over the Porche any day. Ive got an XFR and it is absolutely stunning, to look at and to drive, anywhere. I dont care if the Porche is better and what not... how can you not love that Jag?
@ManULover07 from what i can see, you sure have a camera so post a video with your xfr...any person who has a great car, i'm sure he will be more then eager to post a video with his car...you can do that too except one problem : YOU DON'T HAVE A GREAT CAR !
@rocknrollman1234 it's hilarious that 99% of the comments saying "i'd rather take the jag over a porsche any day" are posted by british people. the rest of the world would take the porsche
@NSRacer114 I really doubt that 99% of the comments are british. u just made that absurd statistic up completley so therefor or argument amounts to nothing. Ill take the jag and Im american. The jag has a soul, the porsche is so.... bland.
hello ricer fan. you´re wrong. I just took the jag - as a convertible. just because I like british cars. i am from germany and no, i don´t own the G55 anymore, I traded it for an other british vehicle.
interesting how you think you can rate over other people.
I dumped my SL 55 & Porsche for my first XKR, I absolutely love the XKR more than the others, I think the XKR identified me. I am not just another groupy. I am an American.
@gammaga thanks man, it is amazing, i think jaguar has come a long way in the last few years. yes they may not be as "good" as a porche 911 turbo or a bmw M series, but i think jaguars are unique, and thats why i love them. Im hoping jaguar will make their sports cars with a manual transmittion, that would be amazing!!
@robtop121 Jaguar has a fantastic 3.0 litre diesel engine. The BMW 6-Series is available with a diesel (previous model) received favorably reviews and sold thousands of units. Jaguar needs to do the same- as well as improving on safety.
I like the Porsche, but no matter how hard I try, I can get over the plain and ugly interior. Also, Porsche offers EVERYTHING as an expensive option. Oh, and the 911 will never have the growl of a v8!
the jag is miles ahead of that outdated 911. The porsche is old news, very plain inside, and jag is far more refined, a true gt that outclasses the porche.
@Lolf88 Thirty years? This is basically Hans Ledwinka’s concept that goes back some 80 years. When you create the perfect mechanical form logic tells you can’t beat perfection; you can only tweak and evolve it. That is why Porsche was, is and always will be number one. :P
Have you been reading their marketing blurb again?
You're perfectly entitled to your opinion and I can clearly see you like your Porsches as do I, but I think the formula is getting a bit tired now and has been for a while. Unless Porsche start moving on a bit with their car designs instead of changing a light cluster here, and bonnet scoop there, companies like Jag and Ferrari are going to end up snow ploughing over them.
Their attempts so far with the Panamera and Cayenne have been less than successful and all because they have felt tied to keeping to the same design language that has influenced their products for the last 80 or so years and I think they need to move on.
I just came back from China last month and had the privilege of getting a ride in a Panamera turbo from Shenzen to Guangzhou. They proudly told me that the Panamera was launched last year in Shanghai. They also pointed out that Porsche is a quality German car while Jag is really an Indian car. It is quite understandable that Autocar would give the nod to Jag, because they still that it is a British car. Jag will be starting production in China next year
Until now, your comments actually held some water, now you just look like an ill-informed berk. Our conversation is over and you will find your comment -1.
I also don't think the Chinese have any right to judge, considering they base their opinion on one of the most collosally ugly executive cars ever to vomit forth from Stuttgart, and that most of their car industry is based off illegal carbon copies of other people's cars. The 'Indian car' comment speaks for itself, considering that the cars are designed, built and engineered in the UK with minimal involvement from India.
Please, tell me, how many Jaguars have you driven?
@Lolf88 Stay with the topic! I am talking about a German car versus a British car. My comment about Indian car is how people feel about them. You do understand English, don't you?
Also, has the thought occured to you that the reason why Autocar have given Jags a good write up, is that, now wait for this, they are actually really good? I'll give you some time to allow that to sink in to that tiny mind of your's.
Jaguar are not the only ones guilty of setting up production in China, even the Germans are at it, 'quality German produce' from BMW and VW springing instantly to mind. I don't see many disparaging comments being made about them being Chinese cars.
TaTa recently denied any possibility of Jag being made out side England. They want to keep the brand prestige. Only Germans do that! Large amount of BMW, Merc & Porsche were made outside Germany. Did you just made up those rumors?
The older jags (2006 and under are attrocious). I dont know "a lot" of people you're referring too,but the newest xkr is insane! Anyone who sees it on the road immediately stops and looks whenever someone is driving it. For the money its sportier, faster, and much different looking then say a Mercedes CL or Maserati coupe.
@yankees807 great points! for under $100thou you can get a beast! its different...not people have it...and many people don't know that it even exists.
Sorry for my opinion but i (along with a lot of people) agree that the front part of the new jag ('06 onwards) when viewed at an angle looks like Dory on the Finding Nemo movie. It does look like a fish. & the headlights look like sad eyes. The design that the late Geoff Lawson did on this Jag Xk8/XKR ('96 - '05) has the perfect lines & is symmetrically balanced that makes it one of the best looking car ever designed! Ian Callum mentioned he had some troubles designing the new one. So sad!
@sspeterss cheers mate i have one aswell!! mine is silver and black and yours? btw i also have a koenigsegg, aston martin one 77, enzo, reventon, porsche carerra gt and a vauxhall astra!!! :D :D :D
BTW This is not correspondance, but if it were then I would have begun it with a salutation and ended with a valediction eg "Dear sir",........ "Yours Faithjfully, Prick"
So... you still haven't refuted my contention that the British automotive press is predictably biased in favor of British automobiles. Stating that the German press is guilty of bias is basically a non sequitur.
I entirely agree that the british press favour (british spelling) british cars. My point is that it is the case everywhere in the world. Nowhere more so than germany.
I called you a prick beacause you were pointing out the obvious and singling out the british. The british press are actually fairly objective when compared with the german/french/american press.
And you know that they're more objective because.... you're British? Give me a break! I have some experience with the British tendency to be biased - and when it comes to a hatred of Germany - holy crap! Ever hear of "burying the hatchet"? Well, it's high time the Brits get over the trauma of WWII! And if you think the French, German, and American press don't praise British automotive products enough - maybe it's not bias, but the fact that British automotive technology generally has sucked..
I live in the UK but I am not british, not that it even matters.
I know the british press is biased, but the german press is more so. As is the case in america and france.
The british are considerably more popular in germany than the americans. Perhaps that's because the germans, contrary to popular belief, DO have a sense of humor and therefore enjoy the british people's affectionate mocking. It is a testament to how friendly germany and the uk are, which you don't understand.
GM and Chrysler have produced crap too. Americans are less popular in Germany because of their arrogance. You really think the British don't still go overboard with their distaste, disdain for all things German? You consider it "affectionate mocking"?
We're both dealing in generalities, so we can each come up with examples that contradict what the other person is saying. Neither one of us is going to "win" this argument - glad that your experiences lead you to believe that there isn't much of an anti-German bias in Britain - my experiences have led to a different conclusion. I actually enjoyed our "discussion" - perhaps there's something else we can argue about...
I've got to laugh at this dick in the video talking about 0 - 60 times. Fuck sakes .. come on 4.5 to 4.6! That difference can come down to driver error or if onde driver. Naff all in that... the same
it doesnt matter your both wrong....ford owned jag and ford owned astin... neither of them used a ford motor... they used fords money.. 4.2l built in coventry... aston used the jag motor upped it to 4.3 and some how managed to get less power then the jags 420 bhp... now tata owns jag.... Jag uses their money and once again .. this doesnt mean a bunch of bun heads are building jags....The new 5.0 is built in whales... porshe sucks. theyre ugly, old, dont sound good, and over priced, no luxry
Wel said indeed! Porsche have had a very succesful marketing campaign as have a lot of other German manufacturers. Desirabilty factor ramped up by UK motoring press. No boring piece of Kruat techno with no soul can match the legend of Jaguar. The marque might have American and now Indian cash but Jaguar are still built in the UK by Brits.

Lolf88 1 year ago
@cheddyrod
Their attempts so far with the Panamera and Cayenne have been less than successful and all because they have felt tied to keeping to the same design language that has influenced their products for the last 80 or so years and I think they need to move on.
Lolf88 1 year ago
I just came back from China last month and had the privilege of getting a ride in a Panamera turbo from Shenzen to Guangzhou. They proudly told me that the Panamera was launched last year in Shanghai. They also pointed out that Porsche is a quality German car while Jag is really an Indian car. It is quite understandable that Autocar would give the nod to Jag, because they still that it is a British car. Jag will be starting production in China next year
cheddyrod 1 year ago
@cheddyrod
Okay.
Until now, your comments actually held some water, now you just look like an ill-informed berk. Our conversation is over and you will find your comment -1.
As the Chinese would say 再见蠢货Porsche盲信者.
Lolf88 1 year ago
@cheddyrod
Lolf88 1 year ago
@Lolf88 Stay with the topic! I am talking about a German car versus a British car. My comment about Indian car is how people feel about them. You do understand English, don't you?
cheddyrod 1 year ago
@cheddyrod
Lolf88 1 year ago
@Lolf88 You mentioned tiny mind. Do you have to protect your position by sinking to this level.
cheddyrod 1 year ago
@cheddyrod
TaTa recently denied any possibility of Jag being made out side England. They want to keep the brand prestige. Only Germans do that! Large amount of BMW, Merc & Porsche were made outside Germany. Did you just made up those rumors?

the jag is much better car to have , its more comfortable , its better looking , its got a better noise , and a bigger boot. and its just a fast .
why would you buy a 911 instead of that????

My God that Jag is simply gorgeous...the 911 needs A LOT more styling than that VW Beetle profile to compete.

So sad!

How predictable! Have a Brit compare a German car to a British one and guess which one he chooses?
pbschuh 2 years ago
If you spoke german then you could read the german car reviews, where the reverse is true.
Prick
z0243z 2 years ago
How do you know that I don't speak German?
By the way, is that how you sign all your correspondence - with the name "Prick"?
pbschuh 2 years ago
Do you?
BTW This is not correspondance, but if it were then I would have begun it with a salutation and ended with a valediction eg "Dear sir",........ "Yours Faithjfully, Prick"
z0243z 2 years ago
So... you still haven't refuted my contention that the British automotive press is predictably biased in favor of British automobiles. Stating that the German press is guilty of bias is basically a non sequitur.
pbschuh 2 years ago
I entirely agree that the british press favour (british spelling) british cars. My point is that it is the case everywhere in the world. Nowhere more so than germany.
z0243z 2 years ago
So... you agreed with my initial comment, but decided to call me a prick? WTF?
pbschuh 2 years ago
I called you a prick beacause you were pointing out the obvious and singling out the british. The british press are actually fairly objective when compared with the german/french/american press.
z0243z 2 years ago
And you know that they're more objective because.... you're British? Give me a break! I have some experience with the British tendency to be biased - and when it comes to a hatred of Germany - holy crap! Ever hear of "burying the hatchet"? Well, it's high time the Brits get over the trauma of WWII! And if you think the French, German, and American press don't praise British automotive products enough - maybe it's not bias, but the fact that British automotive technology generally has sucked..
pbschuh 2 years ago
I live in the UK but I am not british, not that it even matters.
I know the british press is biased, but the german press is more so. As is the case in america and france.
The british are considerably more popular in germany than the americans. Perhaps that's because the germans, contrary to popular belief, DO have a sense of humor and therefore enjoy the british people's affectionate mocking. It is a testament to how friendly germany and the uk are, which you don't understand.
z0243z 2 years ago
PS
I know that british automotive technology has mainly been crap, but atleast no british car companies are owned by the government ala GM and chrysler.
z0243z 2 years ago
GM and Chrysler have produced crap too. Americans are less popular in Germany because of their arrogance. You really think the British don't still go overboard with their distaste, disdain for all things German? You consider it "affectionate mocking"?
pbschuh 2 years ago 2
Disdain for all things german? The queen is german. They all drive german cars.
If you want to see Jeremy Clarkson lay into the british motor industry, google 'mg rover'.
z0243z 2 years ago
We're both dealing in generalities, so we can each come up with examples that contradict what the other person is saying. Neither one of us is going to "win" this argument - glad that your experiences lead you to believe that there isn't much of an anti-German bias in Britain - my experiences have led to a different conclusion. I actually enjoyed our "discussion" - perhaps there's something else we can argue about...
