This bird has probably had close contact with another human before you. Also note that the parents are not around becasue if they were they would be attacking you. So most likely this baby was fed by humans for a time and then released. Looks like he's old enough to be fed sunflower seeds.
this is so cool!!!! very peace that the bird did not get scared nor fly away but i will want to know what happens and maybe when it gets old enough it may probly just fly away on its own.
Absolutely loved your video! How delightful! I have lots of bluejays that come to my yard to eat peanuts that I put out. But I NEVER EVER have had a single one that would even stay still if I come near them! AMAZING! What a fantastic experience that must have been! The bird must have recognized a kind soul in you! What ever happened to that particular blue jay? That's just the sweetest thing!
Blue jays are migratory birds as almost every other commonly found bird, it is illegal to own them as pets according to the Migratory bird act. This extreme law should be amended to allow people to own captured birds as pets with a permit.
@User100606 Bluejays stay around my place all year. also, many parrots are migratory yet are kept as pets. there should be an amendment saying that it is illegal to just go catch a wild bird, but if there is one in obvious injury or danger, it can be taken in.
this is an awesome video.... I just found a baby blue jay that was suicidal and wanted to hop around in the street.... I am now taking care of him.... I love this video though...
Ha.. I like this guy.. hes like a gentle giant... Found this vid after having a Blue Jay on my windowsill today.. wanted to hear the sound it makes to verify cause the one I had outside today made a sound I had never heard.. Being that I had never seen or heard one before.... that's what caught my attention and how I saw it on my window.. Drove the cat nuts lol
Actually, birds generally have very poor if no sense of smell at all. There are exceptions, however. Such as vultures in Africa, and some species of seagulls. These birds tend to have a tube shaped nostril. Very weird. Really cool, though, about the blue jay. One of my favorite birds. Hope everything turned out okay for the little tyke.
Very cool video. I think the only thing I would have done different is to not pet the bird, as your scent may get on it and the mother would ignore it. Of course, who knows if I'd be able to control myself. There were Purple Gallinules at my old job that would climb all over me!
I want a blue jay so bad

The bird must think you're Saint Francis of Assisi haha
(Legend has it that wild animals had no fear of Saint Francis of Assisi and even came to him seeking refuge from harm.)

How did this turn out? Did he eventually stay in the tree?

did you ever feed it or give it to a bird rescue? the parents might have been eaten--looks like it was already very hungry. or did you just leave it?
