Back in 1975 or so, at the age of 5 or 6, I was at my grandfather's house in Aurora, IL and we saw this clip on Sesame Street. My grandfather didn't mention Jose Feliciano's name, but did point out that he was blind. I only found out in recent years who Jose Feliciano is, and that he also sings "Feliz Navidad."

Jose Feliciano is the composer of this song (music and lyrics). originally released on his album For My Love... Mother Music in 1974 one of his best compositions (in my opinion). Everyone who knows only a little about him know that this song is deeply personal, he is singing about himself

Jose's favorite is called a "Candelario". Currently, & for the last 20 years or more, Kirk Sand of The Guitar Shoppe, in Laguna Beach, Ca., has been custom-building instruments for Jose. Kirk and Jim Mathewson have developed a design with Jose that they call aptly, the Jose Feliciano Model. It has the larger-than-usual dreadnot body but, of course, with nylon strings and a cutaway for easier access up the fret board. It's a lovely instrument with sweet richness that is both deep and clean.

i couldn't find anywhere that spoke of the brand that he uses, but i asked a reliable source and they said (as you probably know) they are classical nylon strings, i'm sure he gets 'the best'. but go to josefeliciano DOTcom (to read about what he does with his nails and) to get some other interesting facts about him.

I believe around 1972-1973 Jose wrote this amazing song. It's very strange that "The Gypsy" didn't become big hit worldwide. But in Bulgaria, it was huge because of the cover of a local star Jordanka Hristova with a bulgarian lyrics
