Clearly you didn't watch the video... Where they explained that the HD remake is not an emulator. But an actual optimised remaster. Which means it will play on your PS3/Xbox360. THIS feature is only for people who own the PSP version and which to play it on the go as well as on their PS3 when they come home. It's a fantastic feature to be able to take the game you are playing out with you, get progress, then continue when you return home on a HDTV.

The saves are compatible thats all. It's like if you were playing at home on your big HDTV but then had to go on a business trip or even just catch a train for an hour. If you own the PSP copy of Peace Walker then you can transfer (I refuse to call it... "Transfarring") the save data across. Which then locks your progress and you can continue where you left off, then when you get home, you can chuck it back on your PS3 and continue yet again.

It's a pretty good idea in my books.

So, if my PSP is CFWed, can I, uh, can I... Goddamit, I'll just come out and say'n'explain. My PSP fell and it cracked. Cracked so bad that the WiFi, the UMD reader, the Square Button and my analog spring got crampled, and the analog popped out. Since I'm so clumsy, my PSP had previously crashed, and thus I used my warranty. So, I CFWed my PSP and the Started gaming. None of those other problems were yet solved. But I remain loyal to Kojima and still buy the MGS's. (To be continued...)

@thecomputerist MG didn't have that much of a story, it is part of the canon, but it's more like "just a game".

MG2 is where the story started to form and it is frequently referenced in MGS, so you will miss some of the stuff they mention in MGS if you haven't played MG2.

The short answer is: Yes, you can just play from MGS to foward, you will miss some things in MGS but you should be fine. MG and MG2 can be found in the MGS3: Subsistence version, if finding them is the problem.
