what if the puppy is too playful or just plain calm. i do everything a dog trainer should do but the dog isn`t trained or housetrained what should i do?
I have a golden retriever puppy! Im love with her but Im having trouble teaching him. I have a 2 years boy and he likes to play with the puppy. The puppy respect me but doesnt respect my kid. Also she doesnt respect what other people tell her.
I watched all of your videos muliple times before getting a dog, i dont remember if this has been discussed.. I cannot crate/playpen train my puppy. He will NOT stop crying. I've left him for 30 mins+ and he still doesnt stop crying! I tried sleeping with head phones in, and he cries OVER them with the music on blast! I dont want to be a natzee with the kennel, but i want him to be well enough trained he doesnt mind being in it if we're visiting my grandparents, or somewhere he cant free roam.
Hi Tab. I have a 9 week old Yorkie Puppy who only weights 1.10 lbs. He only eats about 1/3 cup of food total a day and only wet food. I've tried different kinds of dry food, but he will only eat wet. I've even mixed the dry in the wet food and he just licks around the kibble. What kind of treats can I reward him with for training if he can only eat so little in a day and has aversion to anything dry?
that my black german sheperd when you would throw the he would wait a while and then go get it + we tied a rope in the tree and he would jump up there and hang there for hours his name is prince ;)
HELP!!! I have had now for 4 weeks my GSD Maloo. Hes currently 9 weeks old and i am trying to teach him to walk on the leash. He seems to be scared to walk with it. I tried even just leaving the lead on him so he can walk around the house with it (which i thought would help in toilet training as well) but he just wont move anywhere and after a while he starts yelping and crying very loudly than i give up and take it off. He doesn't mind collar as he had it since i got him. Any other ideas? Thanx
Easiest way I house trained my pup; Kept him on a short leash, which I never put down while at the house. He was always at my feet, under constant supervision, whenever he was let out of his crate, or taken back inside the house. The only time I didn't have him at my side was while at work, or sleeping. At that point he would be in his crate. By doing this you're only setting him up for success. If you can't monitor your dog or puppy directly at your feet, then there's something wrong with you.
I have seen your puppy biting videos and my 10 weeks old gsd pup does listen to the leave it command but he has these moments where he gets hyper and doesn`t even hear the command, any advice? Thanks
Hi, I have a problem about my dog going potty. I taught her when and where to poop but not to pee. Since she pees more often, She will pee inside my room (in my Condo) as well. I then clean the pee with paper and put it on my balcony, so if she needs to go she will do it there. But she pees everywhere in my room except the balcony. HELP! Great video man
Like all of your other training videos, this is excellent. ESPECIALLY defining punishment very clearly. I think among laypeople (like me), punishment may be the most misunderstood, and hurtful, training principle of all. I also work with horses, and horse trainers have finally caught on to the fact that developing partnership, rather than forcing submission, is better for both horse and rider. Same with dogs and their people.
@ tab289 I've had my dog for a year and I have noticed that we haven't been training him properly. My mom uses a clicker for bad behavior and the "ch" noise from the dog whisperer. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.
i just got a 8 week old german shepard puppy 6 days ago and he went on pee pee papers the very same day and learned "go" and "hurry up" to go outside, he knows "outside" and "in". thank you for your videos because i can't wait to teach him more stuff!! i think he's a genius!
i just got a new puppy a while ago he is a 9-10 week old rotty+black lab and he is constantly biting and barking. . . .i dont know what to do about it . this is going to sound wierd but i actually incouraged him to bite others when on command but now he thinks he get rewards when he bites anybody. help please.
Thank you for your advice. I took notes (LOL - but I really did) and I hope it helps!
The problem for me might come at night...since we brought the puppy home I've been sleeping on the couch to be nearer to the puppy and whenever he whines to be picked up (5/6am) I bring him on the couch w/me. That's when he likes to bite and I'm waaayyyyyy to tired to correct him. Any ideas?

Hi Tab289, first of all a big Namaste from India. We have a 2 months old Labrador puppy. Using clicker training, he has learnt to relieve on newspaper. Using the same technique, he has also started giving his paws.
Hi Tab, My name is Riordan or rissole2390, i have a question
Say if my yard has an electric fence that opens when someone approaches to park, Max(my dog) would be inside the yard, how would you stop him from running out of the yard when the fence opens when the driver opens the gate? would it be the same principle as 'Stay' but giving the dog the example to do this when the fence opens?
I might get two German puppies, around 8-9 months old. I do clicker training with horses and had taught them a few things without any issues. Is it all right to clicker train dogs at that age? Or is it too late?
@tab289 you cant start clicker training a dog after he becomes an adult?? my dog is 20 months old, he is extremely well trained but when i started watching your videos i wanted to teach him some of your great tricks and he is responding verrry well to the clicker.. is it because he is very well trained and can adapt to new things or its impossible for him to do that?
my dog is somewhat house train. We keep him in the crate when ever we r working. when we take him we take him outside. However if we r home and let him out of the crate and he really needs to pee he will pee even before his usual time. He doesn't do it often but then again we don't let him hangout outside the crate all day. I was told to put his face in it. I did it twice but stop fear that it can create aggression. He is a 6 month old english Mastiff.
Is there any video of you on "POTTY TRAINING A PUPPY". Please upload the tutorial about this because it is the only reason my family does not like dogs.
I written to you before. I love all your training and tutorial videos and I check every day to see of you posted anything new. Anyway, I will be getting a chocolate lab male in about 2 weeks and I already have a crate, crate cover, bedding, plenty of different toys, puppy food, leash and collar, a play pen and on and on it goes.
I know the first few days will be challenging and I was wondering if you could recommend a book or any other source for me to learn more about puppy behavior
@tab289 Hey I just got a Siberian Husky puppy hes 6 weeks old and he BITES so hard! hes teeth are so sharp.. anyways its really hard to train him. hes so energetic when I try teaching him the simple things such as sit he just runs around the room >< you got anyways to help please :)?
Great video, as with the rest of your dog training series! What is your opinion on training a dog to ring a bell or chime when it needs to go out? My pup picked up the idea within a couple tries, but now exploits the chime by ringing it whenever he sees something interesting. 2nd, I don't like leaving my dog inside while I'm at work or school but whenever he is put outside in his kennel, he won't stop barking. Any suggestions? (btw, your fetch method has worked miracles in a single session!)
@gingaakitalover Yes most dogs figure out the bell means outside time and will exploit it! As for the barking, do you have a crate that you could put inside? What about using a play-pen? Message me if you want.
How long should the sessions be for? I'm getting my new GSD in just a couple of weeks and I'm very excited, but I dont want to over do it with him. He'll be just over 7 wks when I get him.
@amberella1357 Very short at first. Anywhere from 2-10 minutes. It's better to have three 5 minute sessions than one 15 minute session. As your dog gets older, he will adjust to it and learn to focus better, and you can then have longer training sessions.
whenever i play fetch with my dog outside and i throw the ball, he never brings the ball back to me, and wants me to chase him, but whenever we play fetch inside the house he always brings the ball back to me. please help me
First of all, your videos are AMAZING! Not only are your videos exceptionally clear, but you can also see the strong bond between you and Solea.
I would love to see a video on housebreaking. I recently rescued a puppy from the shelter 2 days ago and he's taken to his crate well, but he won't potty after taking him out. I take him to his spot but he gets too distracted by grass and weeds. After several minutes of this, I bring him inside then he potties. How can I get him to potty outside?
I like the point you made about if your puppy is doing something wrong...think what you do want it to do and re-direct into appropriate behaviour. I find there are a few ESSENTIALS to teach puppies early on to prevent prob behaviours. The 'Values of sharing' hold a nylabone for your dogs and its food bowl while it chews and eats, 'Regular vet type handling' so the pup enjoys to be touched, Teach it to 'pick items up' and give them to you so they dont run off with them. 'Leave it' and 'Recall'
I'm glad that you took up the point about punishing, and positive reinforcement over all. Being positive actually gives you a happier dog, and if your dog is happy, I bet you are too :)
I have a question for you, well my friend asked my that but i can't answer it. So... If you like German, and you get a dog in england, ( talk to him in german ) would the dog understand german as well. Or is it that if you get a dog in england,he will understand english?? She want to buy a dog in England, but she don't know if the puppy would understand her??
@nataliawasilewska97 i know u're like asking tab.. bt jus wan to let u know.. what languange u teach ur dog... they will understand it... i know one of y firned's dog that understand 3 language.
too much excersis is bad for the puppy.. you have to remember their joints are frgaile, so long walks and running and alot and jumping can actually CAUSE hip dysplasia, elbow/joint problems and it can damage their growth and bones.. especially for large breed puppies. And 6" is the standard training leash, you should have a 6" leash always. All trainers and training courses you take with any dog or puppy, require a 6" leash.. not 4"
to add ... come/here and stay are the first commands you should EVER teach a dog.. a good trainer once said those are the Life Saving Commands... and your dog should come when called and stay when told.
Thank you for this!! I watched each and every one of your videos and I've taught our little Eli (10 week GS) to sit, lie down, speak, turn (in just a couple of minutes thanks to you!) and stay!
i love your videos! Now i need to convince my parents for a pet dog! <3 i am a dogaholic :P

5* and fav!

@Suffix95 Thanks! I agree, the dog is happy because they know what to do, and not afraid of doing the wrong thing.

Scallop10v3 is right! To a dog words are just sounds that they learn to associate with actions. If we teach them, they can learn any language!

too much excersis is bad for the puppy.. you have to remember their joints are frgaile, so long walks and running and alot and jumping can actually CAUSE hip dysplasia, elbow/joint problems and it can damage their growth and bones.. especially for large breed puppies.

@Jal1515 Yes! That's a good point. Jumping can be hard on very young puppies. Best to stick to walking until they're a few months older.

Thank you for this!! I watched each and every one of your videos and I've taught our little Eli (10 week GS) to sit, lie down, speak, turn (in just a couple of minutes thanks to you!) and stay!
